The other day DD asked me if the Queen shops at IKEA.
I'm sitting at and IKEA desk drinking from IKEA glasses. everything's bloody IKEA.
Is there anyone who has NO IKEA at all?
No I don't work for them!

Never been to ikea, I’m in north Scotland and there isn’t one anywhere near us. I get most of my furniture second hand, just keep an eye out for bargains and buy good quality things. Helps living in an affluent area where people seem to refurbish their homes on a yearly basis!

Shiftymake · 14/11/2017 01:02

Love IKEA, but no car and too far away means we have looked elsewhere more local, we have a ikea free home.

AntiHop · 14/11/2017 01:08

My dad, who is in his 70s, is ikea free.

My flat is full of ikea.

Skittlesandbeer · 14/11/2017 01:14

I am surprised to read so many pps haven’t even stepped foot in IKEA!

Not sure it’s something to be proud of particularly. Here in Oz, if it didn’t exist you’d be stuck whittling something yourself in your shed, or having to buy heavy old-fashioned pieces ($$$) that you can’t repurpose ever.

Was just thinking today that I need a new craft/homework table and chairs for DD. Need it for 2-3 years near the kitchen (to help/supervise/while she still loves me), then it needs to work in her bedroom. It’d be great if we could cart it around as extra table space for parties and if it could be used multiple ways around (ie no less attractive ‘side’ to it).

Sorry, but only IKEA solves all these problems, at a fair price, and in 4 great colours (with matching desk accessories). So far online I’ve seen 3 different tables that fit the bill. I can buy and have it delivered by the weekend, or go 3km to see it for myself. I can organise for it to be built for me, so I don’t risk a disc and my mental health doing it myself. What’s not to love?

gluteustothemaximus · 14/11/2017 01:21

We love IKEA. It’s a family day out in this house, as you can spend all day there getting lost and their restaurant is very cheap, free coffee for ikea members etc.

Every single room in our small house has ikea furniture in. Cheap. Well made. Modern. Love it.

My parents hate ikea. Would never set foot in it. Would never own anything from it.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 14/11/2017 01:22

Iv never been to ikea.

oldlaundbooth · 14/11/2017 01:23

Nope.

thiskittenbarks · 14/11/2017 01:28

We only have one piece of furniture from IKEA. Lots of little bits and bobs from there though(and about 30 orchids 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Sheepasaurus · 14/11/2017 01:28

Every room in my house has at least one Ikea item in it. The kitchen and living room have loads. We have one in our city centre. It's dangerous!

nokidshere · 14/11/2017 01:40

Iv just kitted out my office in floor to ceiling white Ikea billy! It looks stunning, was moderately priced and, with some doors, some boxes, some bespoke shelving it looks amazing.

18 years ago when I started childminding I kitted out the living, dining and play rooms with Ikea furniture and I sold all the furniture last summer when we had no more need of it. It's good quality, sturdy and modern and it stands the test of time - used everyday by up to 12 children and their parents as well as my own family, it was still in excellent condition

Oldsu · 14/11/2017 01:41

Not a single thing, everything I have is British made, I remember both me and my friend got new wardrobes 7 years ago, hers were Ikea mine were locally made, solid pine and made to my specifications, mine are still going strong, still look like new, friends fell apart after 3 years and mine were cheaper, seriously I wouldn't have any thing Ikea really don't like mass produced stuff.

But each to their own I guess

ThisTimeItsTrue · 14/11/2017 01:45

Me, I have had IKEA stuff in the past but I don't have anything IKEA anymore. Not that I can think of anyway. I definitely don't have any furniture. I think it's great for cheap and cheerful furniture but it does look a bit cheap.

I love putting together IKEA furniture and miss doing it. I sometimes think I should offer my services in the local newspaper. I'd do it free of charge. It like a big puzzle.

WilyMinx · 14/11/2017 01:47

I don't have any Ikea furniture, but have loads of smaller things like cutlery, plastic storage boxes, duvets, etc. I love the place and go almost every weekend.

My brother purposely decorated a room in his flat with Ikea-only stuff.

liverbird10 · 14/11/2017 01:54

I have never been to IKEA.

I am 39 years old and married, but would still rather get drunk on Bank Holidays than traipse round furniture shops.

willyougotobed · 14/11/2017 02:07

I really liked Ikea. We travelled far to get some products now and again. Then when dh was made redundant and I was made redundant, I applied to work there. I get their philosophy. I'm more than qualified. I could do a good job. But they wouldn't even give me an interview. So get stuffed to them now.

Cantseethewoods · 14/11/2017 02:12

I’m an expat. First time we moved we bought really nice, locally made stuff. Got moved 12 mths later and had to sell a lot of it at a massive loss. Next place, lots of Ikea. Of course, we’ve been here 8 years. I am de-ikeaing the living room after Crimbo as the desk drawers have got the Imea sag now.

OlennasWimple · 14/11/2017 03:03

We keep trying to upgrade past Ikea, but then we can't find what we want elsewhere or the prices are just eyewatering. For example, we wanted a TV unit: Ikea was the only place that had the right dimensions for under £1000. We wanted new bookcases, but Billy are so slim that you can fit in more books compared to other, chunkier stuff

KaosReigns · 14/11/2017 04:12

Me, but we don't have Ikea here. If we did then we'd be probably be overloaded with it, always wanted to go to an Ikea (dreaming big here).

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 14/11/2017 04:49

Me I have never ever stepped foot in an IKEA.

Leilaniii · 14/11/2017 05:30

This is my dream. I would love to have an Ikea-free home. I think of Ikea purchases as having sex with someone you don't really fancy - seems like a good idea, but afterwards it's like, yuck.

We are lucky here in Aus in that we have KMart. They should take it to the UK. I have bought loads of stuff from there and none of it has given me that sinking feeling a week later.

Leilaniii · 14/11/2017 05:32

You are my kind of person, liverbird10 Grin.

murphys · 14/11/2017 05:41

I don't have any. Well that is purely as we don't have any Ikea shops here.

I dare say I would if the opportunity arose though.

But furniture shopping isn't something I have at the top of my to do list.

Booie09 · 14/11/2017 05:42

No Ikea here.

DaisyRaine90 · 14/11/2017 05:45

Every bit of furniture in my house that needs replacing is IKEA as it’s broken in some way

Most of it unfortunately

flapjackfairy · 14/11/2017 05:47

I have never even set foot in an ikea shop so yes !
