To ask for tangible benefits of Brexit?

RiskIt4Biscuit · 10/11/2017 21:01

Some politicians are saying that we're all brexiteers now.

But I can't actually think of any tangible benefits of Brexit, and I think as a brexiteer, I should be able to list at least 3.

So how is Brexit going to make our lives better?

There can be no objection to Parliament having the vote, can there?

What is the point in Parliament having a vote on the 'deal'? If Parliament doesn't like it and it is sent back to Brussels are the EU really going to give us anything more just because MP's have stamped their feet, no of course not.

So either MP's accept the EU deal negotiated or we take the WTO deal.

winterstail · 12/11/2017 14:51

Does that post really pass for a left wing view Ta1kin?

Ta1kinPeece · 12/11/2017 14:52

or we take the WTO deal.
And the Economy collapses.
WTO terms would be an utter, utter disaster.
No other country works on full WTO
We would be at a disadvantage compared with absolutely everybody.

expatinscotland · 12/11/2017 14:52

Devalued currency, no trade deals, fewer employee rights . . . yeah, oh, wait, those suck, they aren't benefits.

Does that post really pass for a left wing view Ta1kin?
I do not have wings. I am not a bird.

The Tories are Shits.
Corbyn is a dangerous nutter.
Farage is a bastard.
Many Greens are in Lala land
The Liberals have no idea what they are any more.

I don't "do" parties.
I do evidence based policy making.
Sadly most elected politicians do not.

Humpsfor20yards · 12/11/2017 14:59

Does that post really pass for a left wing view Ta1kin

I'm curious why you'd even ask that?

Humpsfor20yards · 12/11/2017 15:00

I'm interested in the idea that brexit is going to be great for w/c people.

Where is this coming from?

Julie8008 · 12/11/2017 15:01

or we take the WTO deal.
And the Economy collapses

If that is you view then write to your MP and make sure they back whatever deal with the EU that the government negotiate. Personally I think your just sounding off because you didn't get what you wanted. A WTO deal works for me.

winterstail · 12/11/2017 15:01

Because the post seemed to me to express contempt towards low paid and low skilled work.

Ta1kinPeece · 12/11/2017 15:07

Julie
My MP is as anti Brexit as I am so I have no need to put words in his mouth.

Winters
Because the post seemed to me to express contempt towards low paid and low skilled work.
Not sure how.
Many of my clients are low paid and low skilled. At least one is illiterate.
But they do not blame the EU for the fact that other Brits CBA to take manual work.

My lovely Kosovan car wash man hires Bulgarians because Brits will not work for him. More fool them.

The Madeiran family who run my local chippy know that most of their customers voted to kick them out but are happier on the dole than working.

Humpsfor20yards · 12/11/2017 15:08

Im not sure it does but I don't get why should her posts pass for a left wing view anyway?

Julie8008 · 12/11/2017 15:09

Ta1kinPeece Well if your MP doesn't support the negotiated deal then you have nothing to complain about if its rejected and we then accept the WTO deal.

Ta1kinPeece · 12/11/2017 15:12

Actually Julie I'm hoping that my MP will be among the ones who reject the deal by rescinding the Article 50 declaration - which can be done at any time until one minute before it takes effect Grin

winterstail · 12/11/2017 15:12

I think this perception - that British people are inherently lazy - is a myth and a pretty unpleasant one at that.

Of course, some British people are very lazy, but no more or less so than any other nation. After all, it would be stupid if something in our national makeup produced people with a natural aversion towards paid work.

I think that this perception has been one that is extremely damaging.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/11/2017 15:12

Ta1kin No where in my post did I suggest that the people my extended family were losing out to in the job market were "Barely literate non English speaking Romanians".

In fact they are apparently Polish and I have no idea of their level of education. However neither your literacy, nor your English need to be great to work an unskilled job in a factory, particularly if the majority of your co workers are also non English speaking.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 12/11/2017 15:14

Predictions.
Devaluation of the £, millions wiped off stock market and higher food prices happened.

A WTO deal works for me.

You must have deep pockets

Ta1kinPeece · 12/11/2017 15:17

Tinkly
How are they losing out then?
Is the employer not paying the NMW?
Are they not willing to work for the NMW?

Winters
Brits are indeed no lazier than the inhabitants of other countries
BUT
the UK government has historically gone for ultra loose employment policies (only held back from US levels by EU directives)
to make more money for bosses.

Other EU countries have stricter rules
admittedly many have rules that are far too strict and result in unemployment, its a balance

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/11/2017 15:17

And frankly Ta1kin you last post pretty much lives up to the stereotype that the chattering classes are anti Brexit because it will affect their supply of cheap cleaners and builders and the like.

Humpsfor20yards · 12/11/2017 15:18

Of course wc people voted out of their self interest. Why wouldn't they? The idea that people are sneering at them because of that is bizarre.

Farage, Johnson, Davis and gove - all famous for championing the wc [not] - think brexit will be great.

Most Economists, business leaders, academics, scientists, moderate politicians and the civil service think brexit will not be good - and for the wc in particular.

It will be interesting to see if wc people do indeed experience great benefits from brexit.

(I know what my money's on)

Ta1kinPeece · 12/11/2017 15:20

Tinkly
I'm a tax accountant.
I firmly believe that the income and CT tax rates in the UK are too low.
That the tax base has been strongly skewed to protect the top 0.1%
That employment regulations have been weakened to help the rich at the expense of the poor.
Brexit will make all of those worse not better

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/11/2017 15:20

Ta1kin they are losing out because the employment agencies in the area are mainly run by non British people who prioritise people of their own nationality. And I know that lovely liberal minded people are in complete denial that this happens but it really does.

winterstail · 12/11/2017 15:22

Yes, it certainly does.

Ta1kinPeece · 12/11/2017 15:24

Tinkly
they are losing out because the employment agencies in the area are mainly run by non British people who prioritise people of their own nationality
I believe you completely.
It is a known issue.

Caused by the UK keeping the "EU posted workers directive" weak to allow bosses to keep wages low.
If they work through a Polish agency and are only in the UK for ten months, they are allowed to be paid the Polish rate of pay not the UK one.
Its disgusting.
The UK could have shouted to get it dealt with, as Macron is now doing
but then the cost to the bosses would have gone up - and the Tories would never do such a thing.

Humpsfor20yards · 12/11/2017 15:26

I think the bigger denial is that brexit will make life better for the wc.

it is going to make life worse.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 12/11/2017 15:27

Ta1kin they are losing out because the employment agencies in the area are mainly run by non British people who prioritise people of their own nationality.

Can you please provide evidence of this?
