Could someone please explain the situation?

Priti Patel travelled to Israel (apparently whilst on a family holiday) to hold meetings with the Israeli government. She didn't tell anyone one apart from Boris Johnson about this, so no one else knew anything about it.

She then commissioned policy in the Dept of international development on the back of these meetings.

Clearly, it's a massive conflict of interest. I get that.

But why did she do it? What's in it for her? Do you think she got paid really well for it by the Israeli government? And why did she not think that the shit would hit the fan if/when other people in government and the general public find out about it?

May should just stick to her ethics and step out and drop brexit, even if it will make her ultimately unpopular, but she hasn't got the courage.

Hadron wish we could reverse Brexit!! Does she actually have the power to drop Brexit though? I thought that at this stage the government would just have to see it through now. Although, given how little the general public are told, maybe it is still possible to reverse Brexit.

eddiemair I think Boris got confused because she works for the charitable part of Reuters. As Reuters is a news corporation, Boris may have thought that she was involved in journalism. Then he may have thought that saying that she was in Iran to teach journalism was a good way of strengthening her case, as it would suggest that she's doing something positive and helpful for Iran, and strengthening ties between Britain and Iran etc etc. Although that seems to be quite far from the truth - and, if anything, the idea of her teaching journalism in Iran just made her a suspect and a threat to Iran in the eyes of the Iranian government. Bloody Boris 🙄

This is the one thing Theresa may has done that I applaud. That Patel woman is dreadful. So smug too. I really dislike her.

The smirk on Patel’s face as she was driven to be sacked. She is shameless.
