I have a very close friend, she has just got back into work, she has 6 children and single so has been a struggle for her. We've just been chatting on the phone and she was talking about her new job (cleaning) which she does a few time a week, she said how she's getting an extra £80 a week on top of her benefits and how much it's helping her, I said it all makes a big difference etc etc.

She then says how she hasn't told the job centre that she's working cash in hand so getting all benefits still, I know it's none of my business but as we were talking about I said how she needs to tell them because if she gets found out she could be in the shit, all I said, and she tells me to fuck off and hangs up???

Pretty sure credulous is being sarcastic 😂😂😂

Notreallyarsed · 06/11/2017 18:26

Credulous is clearly being ironic, but there are several posters who aren’t.

Wineandworkout · 06/11/2017 18:29

notreally Sadly, yes.

Notreallyarsed · 06/11/2017 18:31

I find it really sad that this is where society is, that it’s acceptable to openly denigrate and disparage people on benefits as if they’re subhuman. It’s horrible and harks back to the era of orphanages and workhouses. Money doesn’t make anyone superior, it makes them luckier. It really makes me sad.

PortiaCastis · 06/11/2017 18:39

Agree Not really
Still at least those bastard tax dodgers are getting a lot of newstime, I wonder how much Ashcroft and Hamilton owe the state?

upperlimit · 06/11/2017 18:40

Yeah, I feel the same notreallyarsed. It's pure viciousness that's wielded for sport on here.

Notreallyarsed · 06/11/2017 18:43

Exactly Portia, everyone seems to jump all over benefit fraud as the reason the country is struggling financially when actually it’s a drop in the ocean in comparison with tax evasion! Billions, if not more, are lost every year with enormous companies and rich arseholes finding loopholes to dodge tax. But no, it’s clearly those pesky benefit cheats because everyone on benefits has sky tv and the latest phone and a 60 inch telly Hmm it’s lazy stereotyping and it’s vile.

upperlimit absolutely! And it’s awful, Just snobbery and viciousness.

RebelRogue · 06/11/2017 18:44

It’s fucking 80£ a week not 800£!

Any employment must be declared to the DWP. Earnings over £20 per week will result in a reduction in benefit entitlement.

www.gov.uk/report-benefit-fraud

You can report benefit fraudsters on the link above.

And yes, those avoiding and evading tax are arseholes, but that doesn't excuse benefit fraud.

Notreallyarsed · 06/11/2017 19:01

And yes, those avoiding and evading tax are arseholes, but that doesn't excuse benefit fraud.

I don’t see threads started to attack tax dodgers though. Fucks sake it’s £80 a week, £80!!!! Not exactly a fortune to most, but a bloody helpful bonus to some. How can you honestly grudge that?

Notreallyarsed · 06/11/2017 19:07

That makes for bloody depressing reading Portia, and to think some on here think being on benefits is an easy life!!!

This is the line that jumped off the page for me Benefits provide half the income needed for a basic decent standard of living for a single parent with a baby

Half???? Good grief. 14% of single parent families are in fuel poverty. And yet it’s still deemed acceptable to speak about single resident parents as if they’re the feckless irresponsible ones??? Ugh.

PortiaCastis · 06/11/2017 19:11

Gingerbread helped me a lot when I was newly single.

Yes I think there's an awful lot of stereotyping and assumption going on about us single Mums

Portia Gingerbread were great with me too! I’ve not been a single mum for a few years now, but I remember feeling ashamed and very judged and it was shit. Like you, I fled abuse that I believe would have led to my death if I hadn’t run with DS1. The language around single mums used is particularly offensive. Single parents are fucking heroes!

PidgeonSpray · 06/11/2017 19:13

you should have told her to stop breeding ffs

Fuckit2017 thanks, it was 10 years ago that I got out, and 6 since I’ve been a single mum but the judgement and nastiness stays with you. I try and challenge it wherever I see it, even if it makes one person feel better to know not everyone thinks like that, then I’m happy.

PortiaCastis · 06/11/2017 19:17

Thing is if someone posts on here LTB yes that's right but then what!

Notreallyarsed · 06/11/2017 19:19

Exactly! It should be “LTB but only if you’re financially independent and don’t need benefits because we don’t give a shit about you or your kids really”.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/11/2017 19:21

"Not true DC - it's also new applications after April 2017, not just kids born after that date. And that will basically be everyone when moving over to UC"
No that isn't the case that won't happen until after November 2018 at the latest.
Currently any new applications for tax credits or UC, for people will more than two dc will be able to claim for all dc born before April.
They will have to claim tax credits even if in a full UC area.

Oh and it's not basically everyone -
Anyone moving from TC to UC will be able to continue to claim for all dc.
