Long and boring- sorry.

We've been on the council list for a while now. Yesterday, we were offered a place. It's PERFECT.

The officer than came back to check ours. That's when we came back down to earth with a bump...

She's told us that, as the place is ready now, we may not be able to do the work in time (I asked for a week). That's painting the place magnolia, and a deep clean (we have cats).

She's going back to the office on Monday, and it would put us in good stead, I think, to be able to tell her that we've already painted, nd the deep clean is booked (it is- first thing I did)

Give me hope, please? I spent last night sobbing my heart out (unlike me- I'm one tough mf).

On a side note, we feel we should have been told what was expected of us BEFORE we viewed...we could have done it way before now!

It's mainly just me and DH. My DB will give us a few hours this afternoon, and I've had tentative offers of help from a friend- but she has so much on that I wouldn't be surprised if she cried off. (She's lovely- she's just going through a berevement)

I can see the hall being an issue, it's Noddy Hat Blue!

Please give me hope? I'm going to make a start now before the DC wake up, and I have to start working around them!

No but I wouldn’t use it if some are saying it’s toxic it’s not worth it.

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 06/11/2017 15:10

Thank you. I've srrinkled baking soda down there, so that should help some.

Jeyes is highly toxic to cats, don't use. Bleach is not good either.

CoughingForWeeks · 06/11/2017 16:45

+1 for the wood pellet cat litter. Mine are mainly outdoor cats but on the rare occasions I have to keep them in, I use the wood litter and it absorbs smells beautifully.

wineoclockthanks · 06/11/2017 16:58

You can buy a spray from pet shops that get rid of cat (and dog) wee smell and it’s safe for pets.

BTW it also works on child wee which is a godsend when potty training!

QuestionableMouse · 06/11/2017 17:31

Jeyes fluid is toxic to cats. Don't use it.

Did you use baking soda or bicarbonate? Needs to be bicarb!

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 06/11/2017 17:51

Bicarbonate of soda.

Trb17 · 06/11/2017 19:03

Cats hate Jeyes fluid! It’s a deterrent to them.

Also Jeyes shouldn’t be used indooors. Trust me on this.

Bicarbonate is your friend. It gets vomit smell out of carpet I can confirm so it’s that good!

Breadwithgarlicon · 06/11/2017 19:25

Jeyes fluid is definitely highly toxic to cats. I wouldn't use it.

Just wanted to say how impressed I am with you. Think you're amazing doing all that! Star

Pretenditsaplan · 06/11/2017 21:40

The bit youve torn up i can testify is the bit that smelt the worst its where whatshisface has his accidents. Weird seeing your house all magnolia. Did you ever find S?

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 06/11/2017 21:59

Nope. 😐

Balls

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 07/11/2017 07:25

The cat smell...

Has gone!

Pretend stirred up the reason I was reluctant to have the litter box on the balcony- I didn't even realize I was upset about it until then! (One of my bfs in RL btw). But they're fine!

Just to make DOUBLE sure, I'm going to give it another going over with bio washing powder after the cleaners have been, (cheap shit btw...quid from Bargain Booze! 😅) then give it a quick wallop inside too.

Well done! You got this!

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 07/11/2017 07:40

Any tips for what to mix with water in a spray bottle, that I can just quickly spray around/on the lounge throw/curtains etc, just to make it smell nice now? Cheap as poss? (Blown the budget on paint)

OP posts:
SandSnakeofDorne · 07/11/2017 07:56

Are the cleaners coming today?

Could you stick some of the soft furnishings out on the balcony to air off?

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 07/11/2017 07:56

Oh...speaking of budgets, I've noticed a lot of "I need to decorate", "you've given me a kick up the ass" etc, comments. I thought it may be useful to post roughly what I've spent in the five days, for anyone wondering/tryi v to budget to do their own.

Paint- £70 (I'd bought own brand B&Q before I saw the posts about buying quality stuff).

Rollers/brushes- £30

Deep clean- £80

A little more spent on food than usual, as I bought a takeout for those still here at dinnertime on Saturday night, and my kitchen was too jam packed on Sunday to cook, so we bought (shamefaced emoticon) microwaveable shite. The microwave was in my bedroom 😅 about £45

Bits and bobs (bio washing powder, wipes, etc) about £15.

So £240 altogether.

Sandsnake one step ahead of you there 😅

I can't believe a thread about paint and cat pee has hit 8 pages! 😅

Lenor fabric conditioner OP, I use the blue one. Half and half with water and shake it well. Poundland sometimes have the smaller bottles for £1.

Good luck and I hope you get the new place Flowers

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 07/11/2017 08:03

I'm actually allergic! Would the tesco "naice" alternative do instead?

OP posts:
Spookle · 07/11/2017 08:05

I'm sure it would. I only use Lenor as it's my favorite. I'm on a budget now so using Lidl's for my washing but still buy the Poundland one for an air freshener.

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 07/11/2017 08:06

Oh ffs...how dense do I sound? I'm hardly going to be sleeping on or eating the curtains, am I?

OP posts:
Spookle · 07/11/2017 08:23

Lol! Blame the paint fumes OP! Will it affect your breathing at all spraying it around?

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 07/11/2017 08:35

I shouldn't think so- I have the windows wide open still.
