Sat on a night out with the girls discussing personal hygiene..... I wash twice a week. Some are saying this is too much , some too little ?! Thoughts please ?
New poster, this is light hearted. Grin

I don’t believe anyone can think twice a week is too much Hmm

Migraleve · 05/11/2017 09:48

Well I could be intimate with him, providing his strip washing was thorough enough

Posters have already said a strip wash is starting at the top and working your way down. Same water. Same cloth, rinsed in same water. By the time he gets to washing his knob the water WILL be dirty, there is no question about that. Imagine going down on that 😷🤢🤐

woodhill · 05/11/2017 09:50

I think you have to adapt like the poster who couldn't shower but I love the luxury of having a shower every morning.

When I lived at parents no shower was over bath in our bathroom (parents did so used ensuite to wash hair but dad moaned as he couldn't have his leisurely bath etc so installed shower over bath for us eventually) so I used to bath at night then strip wash in morning as a teen then later used shower.

1st house had fab shower over bath so fab

Rudedog · 05/11/2017 09:52

I HATE strip washing. DH is obsessed with them, it's much easier to jump in the shower.
DC have a shower every other day and he thinks they should strip wash on the other days. They're fine, pre puberty. In the summer I make them shower more if smelly.

MIL used to make a big thing about having a strip wash at ours (for a full week) because our shower was difficult (2 knobs - it's really not).

I don't even feel clean after a strip wash.

I mostly shower every day, sometimes twice and sometimes not. If I'm not working or going anywhere I often don't wash my hair for days to give it a break.

AstridWhite · 05/11/2017 09:59

I don't even feel clean after a strip wash.

Neither do I, unless I sloosh so much water around in an attempt to rinse all the soap off off my undercarriage that my bathroom resembles a wet room.

Capricorn76 · 05/11/2017 10:03

The term 'Strip washing' also makes me dry heave. Imagine washing your fanny with a rag over a basin full of murky water that you've also used to clean your face and bum crack. It's all very Steptoe and Son isn't it?

The lengths some people will go to to avoid stepping in to a shower. No wonder so many other nations think the British are dirty. I think you can get away with washing your hair infrequently depending on its type, however, your body needs to be washed daily.

Next time I have an accident meaning I can't bathe/shower alone I'll be sure to do it differently so I can avoid being "Steptoe and Son".

It's possible to strip wash and be fully hygienic and clean you know.

frogsoup · 05/11/2017 10:07

Bath, not since about 2002, I hate the things. Shower, every single day since age 12, the only time I've ever skipped one has been when totally bedbound in hospital! Even if it involves freezing water in the open air at 5am on a camping trip, I will not go without! Twice a week and nobody would come near me!!!!

itsbetterthanabox · 05/11/2017 10:08

How much did your parents wash you as a child Op?
I shower daily or twice a day if I go swimming although have occasional days where I don't shower if I'm staying in slobbing.
My mum washed me daily.
Some people strip wash some of the data instead but that us still washing. I don't get the animosity towards strip washers.

WetsTheVet · 05/11/2017 10:08

Every day. I ride horses every morning and evening and then work on my feet all day, it would be very grim if I didn't!

Hazelatte26 · 05/11/2017 10:11

I don't understand strip-washes. Surely a quick rinse with a shower-cap/tied-up hair is easier?

One time my shower was broken and I had to fill up water from the sink into a big bowl, stand in the shower and wash with that. It was horrendous and cold and I didn't even feel clean afterwards. Also hate the idea of washing at the sink and getting the floor all wet.

Delatron · 05/11/2017 10:14

Shower at least every day. I'll even shower before the gym, then have another shower then if I fancy a bath I the evening... Twice a week is utterly rank.

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2017 10:14

Well as said, due to breaking two bones and being non weight bearing, I’ve jusg been through it and I have to say it’s not that easy, you have to keep changing the water and contort yourself and I didn’t feel as clean as I do when I have a shower.. I honestly don’t know why anyone who has a fully functioning shower and no disabilities, temp or otherwise, would chose a strip wash instead of a shower.

It’s proper faffing about and time consuming, and certainly not as effective, so my guess would be anyone who choses it over a shower is because they think it’s qucker, and if that’s the case, they are not washing themselves all over and are not clean.

speakout · 05/11/2017 10:17

My OH.

He has never used our shower. He has a bath once a week, strip washes every day is clean and smells nice.

VirginMeDear · 05/11/2017 10:18

I love these threads. Everyone seems to be really, really in to discussing hygiene Grin.

I shower or bathe every night as a way to relax and do all my beauty bits - shaving if necessary, scrubs, hair masks etc. Then a quick shower in the morning to wake myself up and wash 'pits and bits'. Wash my hair every other day. Its such a routine that if I miss an evening wash I don't sleep well and I cannot even fathom the idea of leaving the house without a hot shower.

As a child we stripped washed standing up in the bath every morning and had a bath and hair wash on Sundays. But that was the 80s. No power showers, generally lower standards of cleanliness I think. Twice a week is manky.

JacquesHammer · 05/11/2017 10:19

I'm in the same boat. Changing the water and a cloth is easy. Haven't had to contort myself though!!

Ecureuil · 05/11/2017 10:20

speakout the PP didn’t say they didn’t know anyone who did it, they said they didn’t know why anyone would do it. And I agree.
I just can’t see how a strip wash is easier than a shower.

Beansonapost · 05/11/2017 10:21

The other day I was in a shop and someone came in an older man... he was soooooo rank!!!! ... it was a small shop! With the heating on! Which amplified the stench! couldn’t exit fast enough!

I’m now thinking he may be one of those once/twice per week people or a sink wash person.

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2017 10:22

He has never used our shower. He has a bath once a week, strip washes every day is clean and smells nice

Why though? To have a strip wash and do it properly it takes a hell of a lot longer than having a quick shower. He’d have to start by washing his hair, then wash his face neck ears chest, can’t do his back, change the water, do his genitals arse etc, change water, do his legs and feet, then put fresh water in and rinse himself off, repeating the whole process, getting water everywhere. Such a huge faff. Why not just climb in the shower for three mins?

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2017 10:24

Haven't had to contort myself though!

I found washing my nether regions whilst balancing on one leg quite a feat really, never mind balancing on one leg and trying to wash my hair. And I simply couldn’t do my back myself.😱

ferrier · 05/11/2017 10:25

My mum prefers a strip wash to a shower. She just doesn't like the water running all over hair and face etc.
And to be fair, it's probably quicker. Takes far less time to dry off.
I shudder to think how dirty some of you lot are getting if a strip wash, top to bottom, wouldn't do the job perfectly well Grin

Mustang27 · 05/11/2017 10:26

Who are you with that saying bathing more than twice a week is too much?

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2017 10:27

Someone who washes once a week apparantly 😂

Capricorn76 · 05/11/2017 10:27

I had to strip wash in hospital after an emergency C section. I did not feel clean at all. My first shower after a few days felt like heaven.

Hulababy · 05/11/2017 10:28

Shower and wash hair daily in a morning.
Three day a week I go to the gym and shower, inc hair, in the evening too.
