AIBU?

To think the Radfords must be getting money from somewhere other than that bakery?!

They've just posted a picture of themselves at T Rex in Orlando. With 20 kids (some grandkids too I think?)

Surely there's no bakery on earth that lucrative that you can take 24 odd people to Disney World??

I got bored and done a tax credit calculation for 17 children and it was over 3 grand every 4 weeks. Or about 800 a week.

fence we get you can claim expenses. Still doesnt explain how your son pays no tax

Fence you really need to get someone who knows what they're doing to do your sons books.

Don't worry though it's an allowable expense Grin

Re their adult children being net contributers: Sue has strongly encouraged at least one of her adult daughters to follow in her footsteps if the tv show is to be believed...

If they're getting paid by tv companies surely that would push their income over cb limits??

I suppose if @FenceSitter01 sons company brings in £22k plus expenses and he pays his wife £11k too then neither of them will pay tax .... I would think they’d then be better off getting paye jobs though

Amazon apparently get away without paying tax and I've heard that they aren't the only one...so I'm sure there are some ltd companies who do the same. It's all theft though :-(

We're going to Orlando soon. 4 of us, I've searched about to keep costs down and we aren't staying on site. Including a good amount of spending money, it's certainly going to cost us 10k plus. We're going for 3 weeks though.

Child benefit for 17 is also about £940 every 3 weeks. So they get 4k every 4 weeks. Yeah, really costs the state nothing as they support themselves with a poxy bakery. Hmm (nothing wrong with a bakery but it's beyond tedious when they are held up as paragons of virtue for not claiming benefits and supporting themselves. Clearly they don't.

I've travelled as a family of 4 for £6000 saying in Disney with the dining plan several times. The most we've spent is as a family of 6 (4 teens) staying at a deluxe Disney hotel for £13k.

Villas sleeping 20 people go for as little as $120 a night. They really could've got the holiday for cheaper than £50k. Plus the older children earn money so it's unlikely they paid for 24 people from just the dad's bakery earnings.

Ok Fence, assuming your son is a sole trader (he would have an actual accountant if he were anything else) and taking your initial post that he pays no tax due to claiming back expenses:

If he makes 25000 in a year he does not pay tax on 11000 of that.
To pay not tax on the remaining 14000, he would have to spend the entirety of that 14000 on your list of allowable expenses. That is what you are saying.

If his business expenses genuinely are that high, then fair enough. But personally I'd be looking at ways to improve my profit margin!! No great benefit to paying no tax if the reason is that you've spent all the money on work related stuff. I'd rather pay tax and have enough money for all my holidays! (If his business expenses aren't that high, then you're on the fiddle)

(For some reason you've aded to the bit of my post you quoted. And also, I can claim all that stuff back thanks, as I am self employed and have an accountant who know what they are doing )

In the programme where they had 16 or 17 children - they openly said they claimed tax credits.

You can watch it online.

Is this the family where the mother was pregnant at age 13? And not only did the father avoid jail, but they get a tv show, etc etc.

Evening.

We just wanted to remind everyone that it's fine to post about established facts, as long as the Talk Guidelines are observed.

But do please remember please that this is a real family under discussion. It's also worth reminding everyone that threads on this subject are clearly being noted elsewhere and that individual posters are responsible for what they post.

Ahh so that's why you never see any real criticism of this family online....lawyered up....

It isn’t just a bakery though is it? You can buy their pies, baked goods etc on line.

No-one cared in 1988, unless the girl would testify to say she was coerced. The age of consent was still 13 in Spain and the rest of the EU considered it a grey area, as said, unless the girl and her Parents made a fuss.

I don't care what they get in benefits or how many school places they take up each year, but I wish they would stop harping on about "not claiming benefits". There is no way their bakery which supposedly makes £30k funds their yearly holidays, weddings, vow renewals, birthdays and Christmases etc. They still say that they only spend £250 per week on food. Their figures just don't add up at all.

Their pies are apparently all made by the family

And well as taking orders

That’s not going to bring in much

What? "no-one cared in 1988" ? ??
It was not that long ago or that different a time! Sue is my age and it absolutely WAS frowned upon at the time! A man was dating an underage girl at my school and everyone was horrified, the teaching staff worked with her parents to keep them apart, they walked her to and from her parents car so that her "boyfriend" couldn't pick her up, and all of us in her class thought he was a creep due to the age difference!

Its pure utter bollocks that that kinda relationship was okay at the time!!
