To wonder what the hell? A Domino's pizza is £20??

Scabbersley · 23/10/2017 20:29

Dd is having a party and has asked for Domino's. I haven't had a Domino's pizza for about 25 years. Just went on the website and one large pizza is £20!

So 7 pizzas would cost £140.

What the actual hell??

Make your own - I fed 7 boys pizza that rivals Pizza Express and it cost less than £3. Best pizzas ever.

WoooooOfOnesGroan · 23/10/2017 23:01

This seems especially outrageous in the United States. My local Domino's, and most US stores, will have an everyday special -- medium 2-topping pizzas for $5.99 each if you buy 2 or more, which equates to £4.50 per medium. You could get enough pizzas to feed a small army of teenagers for £45!

moutonfou · 23/10/2017 23:02

This has probably been said but it really gets my goat when people talk about Domino's as if you ever pay full price for anything on their menu.

Their whole business model is set up around deals, and the more pizza you buy the cheaper it is. So it's actually much better value to be 7 people wanting Domino's than to be 1 person wanting Domino's.

That, and I'm not sure what pizza you're looking at but even the most expensive large pizza at my Domino's is only £17.99

passionately defends right to spend too much on pizza

Welshmaenad · 23/10/2017 23:06

I had dominos pizza for DD's 'movies' themed party a few years ago. I went in and told them I would be ordering a shitheap of pizza and some sides and what would they offer me as a discount - they said they'd do 50% off all food. So justvrjnf in the morning and ask, and place a pre order for whatever time you want it.

£60 isn't actually dreadful to feed 12 kids. It's a fiver each, not much more than a McDonald's.

NapQueen · 23/10/2017 23:09

Giving asda or make your own pizzas to kids who have asked for dominos is the equivalent of in my day when we all asked out parents for Addidas tracksuit bottoms and half the kids got bought two stripe ones from the market. And not because their folks couldnt afford the proper ones.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 23/10/2017 23:12

YY NapQueen a parenting faux pas they won’t forget and will probably post on this very site about in around 5 years time Grin

DeleteOrDecay · 23/10/2017 23:13

Never ever pay full price for a Dominoes/Pizza Hut/Papa Johns. Only fools pay full price! 9 times out of 10 there will be an offer or a code of some description, usually around the 40-50% off mark.

Also agree that supermarket pizza is not an adequate substitute for a take away pizza. It’s nice enough but it’s not the same.

peterpan742 · 23/10/2017 23:17

This thread has made me really want pizza and I don't even like it! Grin

BlueSapp · 23/10/2017 23:20

Make their own pizza and make a game of it my boys go nuts for this sort of thing and it’s way cheaper

WhatAPunch · 23/10/2017 23:25

They're 16 Blue

PantPlot · 23/10/2017 23:28

They're old enough to have sex fgs, twelve 16 year olds aren't going to 'go nuts' for make your own pizzas Grin

LimpidPools · 23/10/2017 23:28

All the supermarket pizza suggestions are great for a Friday night "slash your takeaway budget" thread. But this is the poor girl's birthday and she's asked for something that's not going to cost much more than a kids' soft play party.

Get all the pizzas, also throw wedges, garlic bread etc in the oven. Let there be too much food - it's a celebration! (And they'll probably eat it all anyway. Definitely will if they're staying over.)

And remember pasta costs next to nothing to cook yourself, jarred curry sauces are easy to use and oven chips are very cost effective, but none of them are quite the same either. Grin

Who are all these people who can eat a large pizza in one go?? That's 10 slices of pizza Shock and about 1500 cals! I can manage three at most!

RhiWrites · 23/10/2017 23:41

The quantities being suggested here are bonkers. One large Dominos will not feed 4 teenagers. OP, you will need at least six unless they are all very petite dieters.

Feed four for £5 each deal with upgrade to large (so £6 per person) is the right one, assuming the deal stacks. That gets you 2 large pizzas and a garlic pizza bread. You can do that 3 times and you'll pay about £70.

Takeaway pizza is more expensive. Do not buy sad supermarket pizza. It will disappoint.

GlitterGlassEye · 23/10/2017 23:44

4 pizzas for 12 teens? Not a chance. I agree it’s expensive, my dc love it but no way unless it’s a deal or a Tuesday still think a tenner for a pizza is atrocious . Please don’t get Asda pizzas though if they’re expecting a treat.

Don’t order thin base either as a pp suggested. It’s like a Jacobs fucking cracker.

MrsEight · 23/10/2017 23:46

TBF if I was a 16 year old invited to this event and supermarket pizza was served it would be a bit gutting.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 23/10/2017 23:46

Instead of buying pizzas (from either a takeaway or supermarket) or making your own (totally unnecessary ingredient costs), why not get creative and get your guests to make a base from the scraps in the bin and pull out the sofa to find dust bunnies for toppings? My teenagers love it and are always full at the end of the night! Quite hard cleaning all the vomit up though.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/10/2017 23:46

Of course a large dominos willfeed four teenagers. It was dd birthday last month four of them , one pizza and a slice left over. Other than Doritos and dip that's all they are.
In the evening the had sweets chocolate, popcorn.

catrin · 23/10/2017 23:47

Def get the dominos. Anything else, while cheaper will absolutely be the supermarket trainer. Feed them shit loads of sweets , popcorn crisps etc . The pizza will get eaten because it's there, but they won't starve if you get a couple fewer and lots of cheaper junk to add to the mix.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/10/2017 23:47

That's about 3/4 of a grab bag of Doritos.

aintnothinbutagstring · 23/10/2017 23:49

Papa johns is by far the best takeaway pizza and you get loyalty points.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 23/10/2017 23:51

OP isn't getting four, she's getting six!
