Is there a similar forum to MN for men? And if not, why not?

Multidimensionalbeing · 22/10/2017 13:42

Because I think there should be.

I don't hate men though it will probably be suggested. I really don't. And I think the forum should be open to anyone who wants to use it for advice.

But....It's becoming increasingly strange around here. We've always had the 'what about the menz?' posters derailing threads talking about the harrassment or abuse of women by pointing out that women do it too..... Though it seems worse recently.

But now it seems that so many threads descend into accusations that men are treated differently on MN and often they are. But surely that's because it has a predominantly female membership? Who will see things from the female perspective?

It seems to me that it's causing division and bun-fighting among posters when I genuinely don't understand why there isn't a similar forum available for men?

Why not?

Why does a man join a predominantly female forum to then point out that they're not being treated like a woman? Or....just sit and watch as the women do it for them?

If there is no where else for them on-line then why not?

I'm sure it's possible.

How are posters trying to ban men from the site Cockacidal? Have they started a petition or something?

Manclife, why would you expect to talk about male stuff on the Feminist board?Confused That's what Dadsnet is for. I wouldn't go over to the Doghouse forum to talk about my cat. That would be silly.

DownstairsMixUp · 22/10/2017 18:48

Another female poster here who would like it if males weren’t allowed on here, before that poster above tells me yes I know we can’t ban them but I would like it if they weren’t here.

stitchglitched · 22/10/2017 18:49

Tbh Cockacidal I didn't even know you were a man until this thread, and I've seen you post some good stuff. So it's unlikely that you are the kind of mansplaining DV thread derailer that most of us are referring to anyway.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:49

DioneTheDiabolist You are right on the money.

Lancelottie · 22/10/2017 18:51

Am I the only one getting adverts for pet worming tablets?
Maybe they deal with thread-worms.

CockacidalManiac · 22/10/2017 18:51

DioneTheDiabolist

I said I’d regret it, and I do. I got angry, I apologise.

phileas · 22/10/2017 18:51

There is a forum for men. It's called planet earth .

stitchglitched · 22/10/2017 18:52

LOL phileas.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:52

I haven't seen one man come on here and say that they value the female dominated contributions on this website. They have come on and pissed to mark their territory and their right to be here though. Or to tell us how invaluable their contributions are. Hmm

phileas · 22/10/2017 18:53

And I'll take the opportunity to state that I didn't like it when , on our postnatal thread a few years ago, we were freshly postnatal , talking about our bleeding nipples and shredded perineums, when a dad popped in to introduce himself and join the discussion 'cuz he was feeling a bit postnatal himself.

sinceyouask · 22/10/2017 18:56

Some posters trying to ban men from the site seem to have been here a very short time... I’ve been here for years under different names...
Are you sure they are new and haven't just, like you, changed names?

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/10/2017 18:56

I haven't RTWT but my DH goes on his football club's forum. The most popular board is the "general" board which is less about footy than life in general. I go on there too and have seen all sorts of threads including one long-running thread supporting a lad with cancer as well as relationship advice but most of it is just very funny. So don't worry the men are catered for.

Trueheart1 · 22/10/2017 18:56

BobtheFireman - you are right, it would be comical if it was not so depressing.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 18:58

Charlotte, do you enrich their lives with your own contributions?

KrytensNanobots · 22/10/2017 19:01

You see this is why men piss me off. The sheer arrogance of ye. Drives me around the twist.

Where is the arrogance? Serious question. All I can see is some people with real anger management issues and prejudices.

permatiredmum · 22/10/2017 19:02

How does anyone know whether a poster is male or female

donquixotedelamancha · 22/10/2017 19:02

"I haven't seen one man come on here and say that they value the female dominated contributions on this website."

I'm a man [puts on hard hat]. I only usually point this out if relevant, because: who gives a shit, for the purposes of most discussions.

I came a few years ago for the parenting info. I stayed for the mostly female point of view. It's interesting. The way things are expressed and the balance of arguments is different from most forums. This is the only place I really read or post because (despite all the bile and trolls) I think it gets quite a good discussion a lot of the time.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 19:03

The arrogance is from them claiming their God-given right to be here and the God-given privilege we as women receive by their mere presence. They can't accept that a lot of us don't want them here. And they are going to exercise their God-given right to stick their oar in whether we like it or not.

KrytensNanobots · 22/10/2017 19:05

I haven't seen one man come on here and say that they value the female dominated contributions on this website. They have come on and pissed to mark their territory and their right to be here though. Or to tell us how invaluable their contributions are.

They seriously cannot win.
Say you're a man - "stop being so look at meeee I'm a man" "yeah, you're a man, so fucking what? Don't be telling us as we don't need to know!"
(Seen both.)

Don't say you're a man - "I fucking hate it when people don't say they're a man, I want to know who I'm talking to!" etc
(seen that too)

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 22/10/2017 19:06

Multidimensionalbeing well said

I agree with truebeing

KrytensNanobots · 22/10/2017 19:06

The arrogance is from them claiming their God-given right to be here and the God-given privilege we as women receive by their mere presence.

Nobody's said anything of the sort. Confused you clearly have some issues and are projecting them massively.

OnionKnight · 22/10/2017 19:07

Where is this arrogance? I've not seen any.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/10/2017 19:08

@BobtheFireman It has been known because it isn't exclusively for men (now thinking I've missed the point of this thread!). In fact I'm only on here because because I haven't found a women's equivalent (I don't have children) apart from the vile femail.com, although its predecessor was great).

CheshireChat · 22/10/2017 19:08

I'm not too fussed about men being on here and on the odd thread thought it was interesting to see a man's opinion, but there's some that really should take a hike.

And some that post decent stuff.

FWIW it's fairly easy to tell it's a man posting even though they're not being dicks or anything so I'd rather they stayed a minority.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 19:08

How does anyone know whether a poster is male or female

It's usually announced (with trumpets in the background). DUM DA DA DA DUM DA DUM!!!! A MAAAAAAAANNNNN HAS ARRIVED TO CALM YOU HYSTERICAL WOMEN.

Otherwise, you just know by how they post. Or what they post.
