Is there a similar forum to MN for men? And if not, why not?

Multidimensionalbeing · 22/10/2017 13:42

Because I think there should be.

I don't hate men though it will probably be suggested. I really don't. And I think the forum should be open to anyone who wants to use it for advice.

But....It's becoming increasingly strange around here. We've always had the 'what about the menz?' posters derailing threads talking about the harrassment or abuse of women by pointing out that women do it too..... Though it seems worse recently.

But now it seems that so many threads descend into accusations that men are treated differently on MN and often they are. But surely that's because it has a predominantly female membership? Who will see things from the female perspective?

It seems to me that it's causing division and bun-fighting among posters when I genuinely don't understand why there isn't a similar forum available for men?

Why not?

Why does a man join a predominantly female forum to then point out that they're not being treated like a woman? Or....just sit and watch as the women do it for them?

If there is no where else for them on-line then why not?

I'm sure it's possible.

BobtheFireman
I haven't seen one man come on here and say that they value the female dominated contributions on this website.

I've said it several times on various threads. but you will see what you want to see.

KrytensNanobots · 22/10/2017 19:09

Somebody upthread suggested a women only forum. If some prefer them, why don't they set up their own or find one that is?

@Krystensnanobots

Why are you so FIERCELY defensive of men?

I have never seen any woman ever ever defend women as fervently as you have been doing. It's very odd.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 22/10/2017 19:11

I think as someone said earlier there are a fair few men on here that unless they say they are men most of us dont have a clue

And then you get some right pratts telling everyone that they are men and have an interesting viewpoint. And then you get some sly fuckers who pretend they are women

The first one I dont care about or even notice

The other ones are the problem

sunandmoonshine · 22/10/2017 19:11

FGS nobody is suggesting starting a campaign to ban men from MN. But posters are allowed to express a preference.

Exactly. Not sure why certain people are struggling to 'get' this.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 19:12

Hysterical would you call it? Krytens?

larrygrylls · 22/10/2017 19:13

Ultimately the owners of the site will decide who is on here. And they want as many as possible to get more advertising.

I am genuinely amazed at the number of women who don’t want male posters. It is an amazingly old fashioned sexist view. An opinion on a screen is an opinion on a screen, who cares who it comes from; it should be judged on its merits.

However anyonr is free to start a female only version of the site or to persuade the owners that they should change the rules.

KrytensNanobots · 22/10/2017 19:13

Why are you so FIERCELY defensive of men?

I'm not! I just have an alternative view, refuse to live in an echo chamber of all the same thoughts and opinions and express them every now and again!
Bloody hell.

sunandmoonshine · 22/10/2017 19:13

@krytensnanobots

Careful. Your mask is slipping.

Personal attacks now. Insulting 'Bob?'

Dear oh dear. Wink

OnionKnight · 22/10/2017 19:14

Come on Bob, please quote the arrogance that you mentioned.

Oh wait you can't because there isn't any.

sunandmoonshine · 22/10/2017 19:14

Nah, 'alternative view' my fucking arse.

Multidimensionalbeing · 22/10/2017 19:15

Krytens - because men won't let us. You could have a forum called 'bleeding uterus.com' and some blokes will make sure they got on there. In fact, there are men right now saying women shouldn't even talk about bleeding from their uterus because it excludes them.

They're getting their way too.

Exactly. On threads such as shopping trollies, what brand of nappies to get, etc, I don't care whether it comes from a man or a woman as it's opinions of other parents I ask for.

sunandmoonshine · 22/10/2017 19:15

@Bob

Hysterical would you call me?

PMSL. Krytie is sound more like a man with every post they put.

Mrimportantmanspreading · 22/10/2017 19:16

Wondering if this is an improvement on my previous username

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 19:16

sunandmoonshine Indeed.

NYConcreteJungle · 22/10/2017 19:18

The only man to post on MN, I have found useful was PigletJohn in DIY.

KrytensNanobots · 22/10/2017 19:18

FFS, I honestly am a woman. Why do all women have to think the same? It'd honestly be laughable if it wasn't so depressing that we're all supposed to think the same.

OnionKnight · 22/10/2017 19:18

Yeah because no women has ever used the word deranged on mumsnet before Hmm

If that's how you deduce whether posters are male or not than I weep for humanity.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 19:18

Basically, the reason I come here is because it is female dominated. I accept the presence of men here. It doesn't mean I have to like it.

donquixotedelamancha · 22/10/2017 19:20

"They have come on and pissed to mark their territory and their right to be here though."

"The arrogance is from them claiming their God-given right to be here"

So... to be clear, being all territorial about MN is bad. Arrogantly claiming dominance, also bad.

"They can't accept that a lot of us don't want them here."

Got it. I shall attempt to follow your rules :-)

Seriously- I completely see why the recent spat of MRA nuts and sleazy weirdo posts would piss people off. They piss me off. These people would come here anyway whether the regular male posters came or not.

The majority of the trolls are probably men, but I am not responsible for them. Nor am I responsible for the actions of all: short people, white people, northerners or ugly people. Some male posters are arseholes, but so are some female posters. Lumping whole classes of people together is a mugs game.

KrytensNanobots · 22/10/2017 19:22

OK, I shouldn't have said deranged but all the shouting in caps and mad ranting does come across as some serious issue projecting.
It's like you're not allowed to have an alternative view any more.

BobtheFireman · 22/10/2017 19:24

No. It's wanting to have a female only place. FFS, why can't you understand that some of us neither need nor want your male contribution everywhere we go?

MrsDustyBusty · 22/10/2017 19:24

I am genuinely amazed at the number of women who don’t want male posters. It is an amazingly old fashioned sexist view.

Well surely you can see that if you want men's opinions and topics you can literally go anywhere. Men dominate every media outlets and almost every website. It's very rare to have any space of this kind where women aren't outnumbered and shouted down. Why would'nt women want something different now and again, without having to screen and moderate every joiner?
