To love grandchildren more than own children.

So my DM has said a couple of times now:

“I’m totally overwhelmed. My love for my first grandchild is deeper than it was for my own kids”.

“I think it’s because I don’t have the responsibility”.

My relationship with my mum was virtually non existent growing up from the age of about 5.

AIBU to think this is a bit odd? Especially as it’s said directly to me?

All my kids grandparents adore them.

When I think of the relationship my mum has with my kids and how she feels about them, then yeah I would almost say she loves them more than me.
But it’s different. She loves them the way she does because they are MY kids.
And they are kids.
I guess it really depends on the relationship you have with a parent.
I always knew how my parents fell about me. I was secure and very much wanted. So not only do I love that they love my kids so much. It means so much to me that I have been able to give them grandchildren that have added to their lives so much more.
That’s a bit long winded but basically I think it is probably quite normal!!
