Teddy Bears Are Dead!

Long live the reign of the bunny!

Or to put it another way, in the nursery class I'm working in 5 children have cuddly bunnies. I can't remember the last time I saw a child with a teddy. We have them around the room as nursery toys, in books, as pictures on toys, walking past outside, etc, but not as a child's main cuddle toy.

If you have a child with a special toy that they carry everywhere, what is it? Any bears about?

(I'm 40 something and have my lion in a box in my bedroom.)

My 5 yr old has teddy bears, they are not dead here!
He has three he trails about with him at all times. He loves all soft toys but especially the bears.

In our family, in descending age order from 53 to 10, we have:

Teddy
Bunny
Teddy
Bunny
Owl.

(Not all are in 'active' service Grin.)

I still have my favourite bear, he doesn't sleep with me now though but he does sit on my bed with my other teddies.

I'm 32.

Ds1 has a sheep and a meerkat, ds2 has a teddy. They are 20 and 16. It is not really information in the public domain, but the remnants of their childhood loves still lurk in their rooms Grin

RuskBaby · 19/10/2017 11:36

Depending on mood we have bunny, mouse or penguin.

tiffanysfanny · 19/10/2017 11:37

Dd has puppy

Starwhisperer · 19/10/2017 11:39

My 3 year old has a bunny. My niece however favours an octopus.

LeonoraFlorence · 19/10/2017 11:39

DD1 has a bunny.
DD2 has a lamb.
DD3 has a platypus and a lemur.
DD4 has a bunny.
DD5 has a bunny.
We have lots of teddies but the above are the chosen ones :)

Mine was ( and is) a cat teddy ... I don’t even like cats v much. I’m 22

My mum had bears and so did my sister ( aged 55 and 25 respectively)

LemonysSnicket · 19/10/2017 11:45

Oh and my younger brother has a rat 😂

Seren85 · 19/10/2017 11:47

I have a bunny (I'm 32 and he sits on my wardrobe now), DH has a teddy (same age, also on wardrobe). I remember specifically that I did not have an actual teddy bear until I was 15 when I bought myself a special edition one with something to do with Y2K on it.

DS1 has a small bear (called Bear) who is his absolute favourite. He’s also in danger of not being able to fit in his bed due to the sheer variety of other cuddliest he has.

DS2 has a Mouse so far he ignores all the other soft toys he’s presented with.

MummyFoxy · 19/10/2017 12:17

My DS (2) has Bear permanently attached to his side. He goes everywhere. I have no idea what we'd do if we lost him. He was a present from my DH's former work colleagues, no idea where he was bought from, has no tags or anything. My blood ran cold when the childminder told me Bear had gone missing on the school run. She went out on a bear hunt that evening and found him!!

TheNoodlesIncident · 19/10/2017 13:37

We have so many but very few actual bears. Couple of Winnie the Poohs. Does that count? We have all of the cast of 100 Aker Wood, all Gund ones as I dislike the Disney versions. Kanga is especially soft and silky, sadly has no Roo with her.

We are also harbouring several foxes, (including two cubs which are very naughty indeed and no doubt allows DS to play out ways he wouldn't dare to act in RL), cats, raccoon, peregrine falcon, mice, rabbits, a seal, a reindeer from Build A Bear - there are loads and I try to whittle them down by giving them away to the school fairs but they do get replaced with new ones.

I've also still got my 36 yo Snoopy that I bought for myself - too old for soft toys at 10 apparently - and saved up every penny for.

Haven't RTFT yet but DS's stuffed toys, the ones that sleep with him and follow him around everywhere are...
A rabbit
A chimpanzee
A caterpillar Confused
A whale shark
And one of those name bears with DPs name on!

Schtinkay · 19/10/2017 15:33

I had a blanky that I loved (it was my blanket from a baby) for some reason itended up at my boyfriends house when I was about 15 and his mum threw it out Sad

LittleBooInABox · 19/10/2017 22:15

I'm cuddling my bear right now and I'm 28!

My DS who's 7 has a bear.

GreatGardenstuff · 20/10/2017 11:19

We have Bear Bear, who came from Hamleys as a gift the week DS was born. Actually we have the Bear Bears now, as I got a spare on EBay a year later, but he was discovered in the airing cupboard a few months ago!

DS will shortly be 6 and I have a huge handbag, as now 2 Bears travel everywhere with us so one doesn’t feel left out...

llangennith · 20/10/2017 11:59

We have lots of Jellycat monkeys. DGS loved to twirl their long tails when he was little. He's nearly 10 now but favourite two monkeys are in his bed every night. Their tales became so manky and threadbare I knitted them each a pair of trousers and tucked the tails into the trousers.
All these cuddlies say 'surface clean only' which is ridiculous for a soft toy. Monkeys have all survived many machine washes albeit in net bags.
