Teddy Bears Are Dead!

Long live the reign of the bunny!

Or to put it another way, in the nursery class I'm working in 5 children have cuddly bunnies. I can't remember the last time I saw a child with a teddy. We have them around the room as nursery toys, in books, as pictures on toys, walking past outside, etc, but not as a child's main cuddle toy.

If you have a child with a special toy that they carry everywhere, what is it? Any bears about?

(I'm 40 something and have my lion in a box in my bedroom.)

DD1 has a small cuddly sheep.

MelvinThePenguin · 18/10/2017 20:21

slim, I'm rather hoping DD2 takes to her owl!

We bought DS a very expensive teddy bear for his 1st birthday. Whenever they are having a toy collection anywhere for charity, he tries (very kindly!) to offer the bear for donation. I quietly steer him towards something else. Poor bear. I love him!

SunshineEuphoria · 18/10/2017 20:24

We have proper teddy bears here! Bear
My eldest (11) has sadly outgrown his bear but DC2 (9) has around 6 different bears. DC3's (3) favourite thing to snuggle up with is her rag doll, although she also has a menagerie of animals.

123bananas · 18/10/2017 20:24

Dd1 a bunny and multiple bunny children
Dd2 a penguin and a lemur
Ds a bunny

I have 2 teddies though.

bridgetreilly · 18/10/2017 20:26

Teddy bears aren't dead! Mine certainly isn't. ;)

GlomOfNit · 18/10/2017 20:26

DS1 (9) has Teddy, who is very special and given to him when a few weeks old. (he actually has TWO Teddies, I rotate them every few months so they get equally worn, just in case of emergencies.) Teddy is a Friend, not a Toy.

He also has a whole sodding zoosworth of 'cuddly friends', many of whom sleep with him on rough rotation. We cannot visit a wildlife park, museum or science centre without running the risk of acquiring another. I've suggested that this is a bit excessive for a chap of his advanced years, but he'll have none of it: they are all in his care and all his friends. He goes to Secondary in less than two years.

DS2 doesn't give a shit about cuddly friends. Grin He is autistic and I've often thought of making him a cuddly kitchen appliance of his choice to take to bed.

We have a hare lol I know two little ones with a monkey

EsmeeMerlin · 18/10/2017 20:27

My ds does have a stuffed teddy, a Bradley bear from Haven and some other holiday characters but he does prefer his blanket he has had from a baby.

I still have my teddy bear from a baby.

MrsKoala · 18/10/2017 20:28

I'm not sure if it's because we co-sleep or because my children are all psychopaths, but none have a lovey. None of the 3dc have shown any interest in a special toy or cuddling anything. We have tried (dh still has his duck from childhood and multiple bears/ducks) but they are not interested at all.

OwlKiss · 18/10/2017 20:32

DC1 does have a bear.
DC2 has several favourites, most of them are some sort of cat, but one is indeed a bunny, no bears.
DC3 has an owl.

kiwiquest · 18/10/2017 20:35

DD has Bunnies! Multiple ones. They look cute but I suspect they are secretly plotting world domination and other dastardly acts. They also reek to high heaven Confused

I have a Teddy bear. He is strictly an adults bear and is actually horrified by the 'cub' (DD) if she ever attempts to cuddle him Grin.

TrashPanda · 18/10/2017 20:36

DS1 has a huge bear I got from Blair Drummond when I was pregnant that he uses as a pillow half the time, he also has a carrot and a gibbon.

DS2 is a rabbit fan, he has bunny which is a very soft brown rabbit and Bing. He also has a pale blue and pink dog from a grabber machine and a black cat pillow thing.

Slimthistime · 18/10/2017 20:39

Melvin, that's a lovely owl but somehow not right for me.

now when I'm bored at work I will be browsing for plushy owls and foxes...I do actually have a friend whose DC has a lovely owl but he can't remember where or when it was bought.

doctorcuntybollocks · 18/10/2017 20:40

I have a Jellycat Colin Chameleon. Loving him is easy cos his colours are like my dreams: red, gold and green (and blue).

Slimthistime · 18/10/2017 20:41

Glom "We cannot visit a wildlife park, museum or science centre without running the risk of acquiring another. I've suggested that this is a bit excessive for a chap of his advanced years, but he'll have none of it"

I was the same. I also still remember my folks chucked out one that they thought was beyond repair - I was probably about 21. I'm now 41 and I still remind them they could have tried to repair it!! Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/10/2017 20:43

DS has Bear. Bear used to be my bear when I was little, only he has changed gender because he used to be a she when I had him. I am very trans-tolerant about it. Wink Bear still sleeps with DS even though DS is 13.

DD has Bear-Bear, which has a proper stuffed head but a floppy body. She used to be pink but now she's a sort of grey-blush.

Giraffeski · 18/10/2017 20:44

DD1- pink grey lamb
DD2- whitegrey bunny comforter
DS- gorgeous Steiff teddy bear. Still looks new after 2 years, bizarrely.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 18/10/2017 20:44

DD's special one is a bear, but tonight he's accompanied by a wombat, a seal and a sloth. She has a great collection and makes up the most complicated stories involving various groups of them.

Pikmin · 18/10/2017 20:45

We cleared out some soft toys today -
Throwing Sophie rabbit & bunny, donating miffy, 2 robots, a bear, giraffe. Living to fight another day are 2 cats, a tortoise, a dog and Mr Rabbit.
However I did buy the most enormous blanket/duvet hybrid made from genuine teddy from Dunelm, so maybe that's where they've gone?

goose1964 · 18/10/2017 20:47

My grandson has a teddy ,and a dog . He seems to love them both equally. He's 7 months

Pandoraslastchance · 18/10/2017 20:47

Dd1 has tortoise and a ferret
Dd2 has a monkey and rubble from paw patrol
Dd3 has a girrafe (she rejected a frog) and Zuma and rocky from paw patrol.

parietal · 18/10/2017 20:49

Dd1 has one real trad bear

Dd2 has 3 penguins, 3 monkeys, a Fox, a tiger, a rabbit, a giant Ikea strawberry ... and a trad bear.

GerdaLovesLili · 18/10/2017 20:50

Small Son has a hand crocheted dinosaur who still goes everywhere with him, and a troupe of bunnnies: Ruby, Minty Schmellings, and Mr BunnySnuggles. He has bears, but they're mainly of the stop-at-home-not-going-on-adventures sort.

Goldenbug · 18/10/2017 20:53

The giant IKEA strawberry is the weirdest so far!
