Teddy Bears Are Dead!

Long live the reign of the bunny!

Or to put it another way, in the nursery class I'm working in 5 children have cuddly bunnies. I can't remember the last time I saw a child with a teddy. We have them around the room as nursery toys, in books, as pictures on toys, walking past outside, etc, but not as a child's main cuddle toy.

If you have a child with a special toy that they carry everywhere, what is it? Any bears about?

(I'm 40 something and have my lion in a box in my bedroom.)

My DS is currently asleep cuddling a white Reindeer.

smileygrapefruit · 18/10/2017 19:55

I still have a 2ft penguin I've had since birth that still sleeps in our bed, I even took him on secondary school trips if they were overnight and didn't give a hoot who took the piss, he's recently had his beak stitched back on 😂

My 4 year old's fave is my brothers old teddy so he's about 25 years old and still much loved.

But yes... the youngest two have rabbits no imagination!

Captainj1 · 18/10/2017 19:56

My DS has a very old flat one-eyed bear that was mine as a child. I work away a lot and used to take it with me, but one night about 4 years ago DS was upset that I was going away so I left ‘bear’ (imaginative I know) with him so he had someone to look after, and I haven’t been able to get him back since...!

BenLui · 18/10/2017 19:57

DS has a much loved teddy. DD cuddles whoever’s turn it currently is (she’s very fair about equally allocating cuddles)

CuteOrangeElephant · 18/10/2017 19:57

The Rabbits are everywhere at the moment. I only noticed it when I got DD 5 weeks ago.

Equimum · 18/10/2017 19:58

4 year old has a dog (had a rabbit when smaller)

2 year old has thre dinosaurs and a giraffe which he tries to wrestle into a cuddle at bedtime.

missyB1 · 18/10/2017 19:58

Ds is 9 and he has a penguin which he’s had since he was a baby. Penguin has been all over the world with us.

mrsknackered · 18/10/2017 20:00

SO true! DS1 has a tiger and DS2 has the rabbit (hare?) from 'guess how much I love you'

RosyPony · 18/10/2017 20:01

DS has a toddler pillow! That's his go to comforter, I'm happy with that as it has two identical covers so it's easy to keep clean.

HaHaHmm · 18/10/2017 20:03

DD has an absolutely beautiful Steiff bear, given to her at her first Christmas, whom she adores. He never leaves the house as he is too special, so her Jellycat bunny works those shifts.

RatOnnaStick · 18/10/2017 20:05

DS2 has 3 or 4 teddies but Catty is the only soft toy that really matters. DS1 goes to bed with his cuddly snake (called Snaky Jake, of course).

MaroonPencil · 18/10/2017 20:07

DS is currently in bed with two teddies, a bunny and a Wenlock (2012 Olympics mascot!). He's like Bella in Dogger.

MusicToMyEars800 · 18/10/2017 20:09

Both my DD's have bears Smile They are 5 and 7.

Goldenbug · 18/10/2017 20:09

DS2 has the rabbit (hare?) from 'guess how much I love you'

That'll be Big Nutbrown Hare or Little Nutbrown Hare. I hate that book.

All bunnies in this house!

crookedhooker · 18/10/2017 20:10

Cats here black and white ones. We've mummy cat, daddy cat and wee cat. Wee cats mammy as he calls her has had a rough life poor dear. Not quite as rough as daddy cat who is a collie.

RiversrunWoodville · 18/10/2017 20:11

Dd1 and 2 both have jellycat puppies as their favourite take everywhere cuddlies. We have some bears but they are largely overlooked. Dd2 also loves her shark and monkey but not as much as the dogs

Carouselfish · 18/10/2017 20:12

A mouse comforter.
Mine was a Fraggle!
DD does have several bears but I really only like the ones that are real bear shape, not sitting upright Teddy-types.

Ecureuil · 18/10/2017 20:15

DD1 has a cuddly Dumbo. DD2 a fox!

MelvinThePenguin · 18/10/2017 20:15

DD1s favourites are, in order of preference:

  • An elephant
  • An animatronic bear
  • A penguin

DD2 hasn't shown a preference yet (5 months), but can choose from:

  • A monkey
  • An owl
  • A unicorn
londonrach · 18/10/2017 20:15

Dd loves ted and also a bright pink poddle. Bunnies has so last year. Shes 14 months

MelvinThePenguin · 18/10/2017 20:16

Oh and the penguin is called Melvin Wink

Slimthistime · 18/10/2017 20:16

I want a cuddly fox and cuddly owl!

When I was little I wanted a proper teddy bear with moveable joints, it felt like everyone had one except me.

then a boyfriend bought me one in my 20s, I'm ashamed to say it got ebayed a while ago!!!

Slimthistime · 18/10/2017 20:18

PS OP I literally just bought my mum "guess how much I love you" this weekend.

she's nearly 80 and was overjoyed with it Grin

londonrach · 18/10/2017 20:18

Dd does seem to be getting a pack of dogs together but the bright pink poddle is in charge...for now!
