Flatmate said my Halloween decorations are offensive

They're a string of Halloween paper chains hanging on the outside of my bedroom door. She said they're offensive and she doesn't like them.

I really love Halloween and they make me smile when I come in. I have more hanging in my room too.

Who is being unreasonable?

How old are you OP?

GrumpyOldBag · 18/10/2017 15:52

You need to grow up then.

LilaoftheGreenwood · 18/10/2017 15:52

Are you settling into your first term at university by any chance?

Yes, leave them up and talk quietly to her when you can. This is the "storming" period where everyone figures out who they are in the social grouping and she has initially chosen "passive aggressive note writer". Start by asking an open-ended "is everything ok" and see where it goes!

I wouldn’t even acknowledge her note. She needs to remove that rod from her arse.

hasitcometothis33 · 18/10/2017 15:56

Christ not only is the complainer a religious but they’re also a student SJW.

You’ll be hounded off campus for micro-aggression next OP. A twitter storm awaits

Dustbunny1900 · 18/10/2017 15:56

So what holidays DO you guys get into and decorate for? Christmas? All this early talk boggles my mind.

IJustLostTheGame · 18/10/2017 15:56

Meh.
It isn't even Halloween its samhain.
Make a huge pentogram out of sticks and put that on the door.

KurriKurri · 18/10/2017 15:58

Let it all out EvilDoctor - you'll feel better for coming clean Grin

Although actually, in the set of rules I've invented and expect everyone else to obey, buying outfits early is fine as long as you don't wear them early. I hope your DD enjoys her costume (all the more for saving it for the day Grin)

My dog's outift has been hidden away, or else he would be badgering me to break the halloween costume rule. I run a tight ship chez Kurri, as long as everyone follows my rules, everyone is happy.

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck · 18/10/2017 15:58

I lived in a hostel run by nuns. They had morning and evening prayers. The Muslim girls all went for a walk at this time. I stayed, but prayed to my own gods in my head. The nun who was in charge of the hostel often complimented me on it. I said I knew I wasn't going to be somehow contaminated by hearing prayers. 😂

yoyoyoyoyo · 18/10/2017 15:59

Why dont you put something nicer on your door??Grin

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck · 18/10/2017 15:59

😂 Kurri.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 18/10/2017 15:59

Be the bigger person. Knock on her door and apologise.
Wearing your halloween zombie costume of course.

Most stores are heaving with Halloween decs so I hope she doesn't need shopping. Sad

hasitcometothis33 · 18/10/2017 15:59

Maybe your flatmate is Mexican and doesn’t like how you’ve culturally appropriated the Day of the Dead.

tillytrotter1 · 18/10/2017 16:00

Am I alone in never having heard of dangly Halloween decorations? Do you decorate the communal areas at Christmas and do you all agree about what goes up?

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 18/10/2017 16:01

@KurriKurri Don't worry about my pumpkin stinking the house; he's actually plastic with a red bulb inside. £5 from Sainsbury's with batteries included. A bargain!

Steeley113 · 18/10/2017 16:02

I'd write the Stephen fry quote under her note and post it back under her door. Shops are full of Halloween decorations, does she walk around permanently offended in October 😂

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2017 16:05

My religious beliefs are vastly different to hers obviously. For a long time if you'd asked how I identified I'd have said Pagan. I've moved away from that now but for whatever reason it really offends people.

I like the sound of him FakePlasticTeaLeaves I shall make a note of the shopping details for a friend who may want a similar one

Willow2017 · 18/10/2017 16:08

Gosh you learn something new every day. I didnt know there was an age limit to having a bit of fun celebrating something.

RavenLG · 18/10/2017 16:09

They are an offense to taste and decency. its cheap, tacky tat. 2 weeks before Halloween

Oh get a life. OP said she was a student. If you can't enjoy cheap tacky decorations when you're a student for an obscene amount of time when can you?

Also, those miserable sods braying about it's too early... when do you lot put xmas decs up? 25th December and down the same night?

Teawithtoast · 18/10/2017 16:11

GrumpyOldBag. Perfect nickname for you.

Liadain · 18/10/2017 16:11

She can feck off. It's part of living in student accommodation - you get exposed to all kinds of beliefs and opinions.

Acadia · 18/10/2017 16:12

It's ugly. Put it in inside the door.
