Flatmate said my Halloween decorations are offensive

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2017 13:57

They're a string of Halloween paper chains hanging on the outside of my bedroom door. She said they're offensive and she doesn't like them.

I really love Halloween and they make me smile when I come in. I have more hanging in my room too.

Who is being unreasonable?

Two weeks of halloween. Really. I think you know your flatmate is religious and your doing it on purpose.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 18/10/2017 15:33

She'll hate it when you do your usual horror film marathon.

Can I recommend Salem and American Horror Astro turf on Netflix?

Why have you got them up so early?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/10/2017 15:36

Oh God, does Hallowe'en start on Oct 18 now? What fresh hell is this? Why are all these festivals spilling out over their traditional time? It's all about squeezing a bit more money out of us isn't it?

Hallowe'en wouldn't be Hallowe'en without the traditional frantic carving of the pumpkin and rummaging in the dressing up box, late afternoon on the 31st

StillRunningWithScissors · 18/10/2017 15:38

Um, where did you get them from? Asking for a friend...

;-)

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 18/10/2017 15:38

Why is everyone saying it is early? I have a pumpkin in my living room. He is nice. He watches me.

woollyminded · 18/10/2017 15:39

@willow2017 I think mum made me use the spoon for respite from the two weeks of recorder practice and horrrible jokes to be fair. I'll tell you what I hate about Halloween - dooking for apples. I was shite at that. Bloody good at the sticky drop scones hanging from a clothes line tho, had that one nailed

LagunaBubbles · 18/10/2017 15:39

The amount of Halloween decorations we put up wouldn't be worth it just for 1 day so all my cheap tat and expensive tat to will be going up this weekend.

skilledintheartofnothing · 18/10/2017 15:39

And the world has righted itself... Was actually pondering yesterday why we hadnt had a Halloween thread yet.

Op your flatmate is being difficult. Yes she may well find it offensive and against her beliefs but sometimes we just have to suck it up.
I take it she is refusing to go into supermarkets/shops/outside for the next two weeks?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 18/10/2017 15:40

May I point out that whenever someone is complaining that the fireworks season is spilling over three months we are told to ship up and bear it.

So why is OP getting a hard time for putting Not noisy HAlloween decorations ten days in advance?

twinjocks · 18/10/2017 15:40

I think your door needs many more decorations, OP. How about adding another piece every day until Hallowe'en? Your flatmate is, as PPs have said, welcome to turn her head whilst passing so she doesn't see them.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/10/2017 15:40

I don't think the youth of today duck apples. It's more about demanding Haribo with menace.

EssentialHummus · 18/10/2017 15:41

I’d text her and ask her to find the wherewithal to speak to you about it in person if it bothers her so much, as exchanging notes isn’t really a great thing to do as an adult. And I’d ask if she knows what the Bible says about tolerance and then quote it at her.

Willow2017 · 18/10/2017 15:41

Wooly
Bloody hell it would take 2 weeks with a spoon!

Sticky drop scones are the best😀

pippitysqueakity · 18/10/2017 15:42

But it is too early for Halloween. It's a one night festival, not one that needs a run up to. But she is unreasonable, enjoy your decks.

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2017 15:42

Morrisons! They were a couple of quid and thought they were cute and reminded me of my childhood!

Bigfat
You do know many christians both Catholic and Protestant celebrate halloween?

And if op was pagan/wiccan/Norse should she have to hide that fact from everyone in case they weren't?

Liverbird77 · 18/10/2017 15:45

They are on your door. She is being unreasonable. You don't have to pander to her religious beliefs. If they were taking up space in the communal area, or you had installed something permanent without agreement, then that would be unreasonable. Maybe find a new place to live though...for the sake of both of your sanity. It sounds like you are very incompatible!!!!

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck · 18/10/2017 15:45

Damn Nettle I forgot the sheep's skull! 😂

You missed one cant it was deleted but had all the usual comments.

KurriKurri · 18/10/2017 15:46

Why is everyone saying it is early?

Because today is the 18th, Halloween is the 31st. The 18th is earlier than the 31st

I have a pumpkin in my living room. He is nice. He watches me.

He won't be watching you by the 31st, he'll be stinking your house out, leaking rotten liquids into your carpet and attracting flies.

Hopefully you haven't put out any other celebratory perishables - if you have you may want to invest in a drip mat and an air freshener.

yoyoyoyoyo · 18/10/2017 15:49

Fgs. Ask why they are offending her. Or if she just means she doesn’t like them. If it is due to her religious beliefs i would find it really hard not to be antagonistic and tell her that her enforcing her religious boundaries on my living area was offensive. Shove a note under her door and tell her you are offended by her note. See how long you can keep the PA note thing going.

Imagine if you were into thrash or death metal and had a poster up on your door. Just imagine that! Seriously OP. Imagine that.

Nonononononono
Ignore me. I have PMT
I feel pissed off with your housemate and that is telling me i should get off the internet!

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck · 18/10/2017 15:51

Kurri is this where I admit that I bought the DC's costumes in the middle of September? Although that is because they always sell out of the ones they want in their size. And DD actually bought hers with her birthday money.

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2017 15:52

I'm in uni accommodation for those asking.
