To buy leather jacket that doesn't do up

I think leather jackets look awesome. But I am a size 16 with big boobs and anytime I try one I look like a big shouldered, boxy blob. I think they look best on petite, small boobed women - but regularly see people my size or bigger wearing them looking super cool and always wonder if I'm just being over critical of myself or just haven't found the right jacket yet.

Anyway. Just tried one on. It's a 14 as there was no bigger on the rack and I think it looks ok. Fits well on my back and shoulders and is fitted such that you keep some shape. But there is no way in hell I could do it up. I've read this is ok with leather jackets - that doing them up doesn't always look great anyway. But surely I'll just look like I've stuffed myself in something too small?

NC as I have pictures I'm too scared to post but don't want anyone to recognise me with my regular name if I do get the courage!!

DP recently said I should have confidence in myself and wear what I want rather than "motherly" clothes that I think hide me. I think he felt bad that he used the term motherly but he's right. Since gaining weight I've tried to hide. I'm losing now (a stone down but 2.5 stone from my heaviest ever) and wonder if now is the time to go for it. I'm just sick of thinking something looks good til I get home and change my mind.

Is it unreasonable to not be able to do up a leather jacket?

They look better undone!

Birdshitbridgegotme · 18/10/2017 20:18

I think it looks great. No need to do it up. You have a great figure in your pics. Get yourself a nice oversized scarf for when it gets cold

fleecyjumper · 18/10/2017 20:22

I think the you look very stylish. I like the boots and I had a look at the link; are yours black or brown?

Jacketornot · 18/10/2017 20:26

I have black ones. I have a tendency to dress in a lot of black. The brown ones look lovely though, I'm tempted to go brown with my second pair.

I can't see why you think you need to lose weight. You look lovely, fashionable, cool. And as others have said, have lovely legs.

fleecyjumper · 18/10/2017 20:34

Yes, I think you should get the brown ones as your second pair.

blibblibs · 18/10/2017 21:21

You look fab Smile
I have a leather and demin jacket that I can't do up and love them both.

lionsleepstonight · 18/10/2017 21:53

Both denim and leather jackets look more slimming if they are a neat fit. Often that means you can't do them up, but the look is to leave them open, sleeves rolled or pushed back.

Maria1982 · 18/10/2017 22:05

It looks good! Don't be embarrassed , these things matter to us. Obviously other things matter too, but there's no harm in caring about a jacket, iyswim

For what it's worth, you've inspired me to consider buying a leather jacket this winter! I am also large of boob and feel I look silly in them done up.

BlondeB83 · 18/10/2017 22:35

Looks great!

Littlehousebig · 18/10/2017 22:55

Iv never seen anyone with a leather jacket zipped up. I think you are meant to wear them open :)

Jellyheadbang · 18/10/2017 23:21

You look lush and what amazing legs. You don't need to be self conscious you look fab and are rocking that jacket.
Where's it from?

Lumpylumperson · 18/10/2017 23:26

You look great!

peachgreen · 18/10/2017 23:39

You look great OP! Also I agree with PPs - fab legs!

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 18/10/2017 23:42

I have 2 leather jackets and I never do them up. They look much better open.

slimyslitheryslug · 19/10/2017 00:05

I'm definitely not a style icon but it would never occur to me to do a jacket like that up. If you're tall & slim and happen to have curves in just the right places, done up might look OK but otherwise just wear it open.

stargazer2030 · 19/10/2017 07:39

I love this thread. Already commented earlier you look gorgeous in the pic op.
Lovely leather jacket purchased, confidence boosted (you do have a fantastic figure and look amazing in the pic) and proof we can all be nice to each other.

Sharl2017 · 19/10/2017 07:54

I rarely do up any jacket or coat unless the weather calls for it.

I like the lace up boots but the Chelsea boots are much nicer than most. Lace ups are more interesting. Either would suit you.
