To buy leather jacket that doesn't do up

I think leather jackets look awesome. But I am a size 16 with big boobs and anytime I try one I look like a big shouldered, boxy blob. I think they look best on petite, small boobed women - but regularly see people my size or bigger wearing them looking super cool and always wonder if I'm just being over critical of myself or just haven't found the right jacket yet.

Anyway. Just tried one on. It's a 14 as there was no bigger on the rack and I think it looks ok. Fits well on my back and shoulders and is fitted such that you keep some shape. But there is no way in hell I could do it up. I've read this is ok with leather jackets - that doing them up doesn't always look great anyway. But surely I'll just look like I've stuffed myself in something too small?

NC as I have pictures I'm too scared to post but don't want anyone to recognise me with my regular name if I do get the courage!!

DP recently said I should have confidence in myself and wear what I want rather than "motherly" clothes that I think hide me. I think he felt bad that he used the term motherly but he's right. Since gaining weight I've tried to hide. I'm losing now (a stone down but 2.5 stone from my heaviest ever) and wonder if now is the time to go for it. I'm just sick of thinking something looks good til I get home and change my mind.

Is it unreasonable to not be able to do up a leather jacket?

I always buy stuff that doesn’t do up, I’m a size 8-10 but with big boobs and if I bought one that would do up it would flap around when it wasn’t . All my leather / suede biker jackets are as small as I can get away with .

Lexieblue · 18/10/2017 13:25

You've got a lovely figure and the jacket really suits you. You said your self esteem is low, and that's something you know yourself you need to work on.

You look gorgeous. Go for it Flowers

sonjadog · 18/10/2017 13:28

The jacket looks great!

fukkigucci · 18/10/2017 13:33

I don’t do mine I’m. I slimish with big boobs and if I do it up it just squidges them into a box shape. I’ll put a big scarf on top of it’s cold

WineIsTheAnswer · 18/10/2017 13:37

As someone big in the chest, leather jackets that fit my boobs look like there's too much fabric up front when they are open. I buy for them to stay open so buy my normal size that I couldn't shoe horn my boobs into closed. They work wonders for your confidence, today I've upped my game to a leather skirt something mumsy me would never have done pre leather jacket.

Pringlemunchers · 18/10/2017 13:40

If you want specifically one which does up. Have you looked at Pepperberry ( Bravissimo)

FizzyGreenWater · 18/10/2017 13:40

Wow, you honestly look fab. That's exactly how to wear a jacket like that. It's exactly right for you - good shape, right amount of space at front.

PerditaNitt · 18/10/2017 13:41

Love the whole outfit; looks great and nicely put together

ForgiveMeFatherForIHaveGinned · 18/10/2017 13:43

A leather jacket in that style definitely doesn't need to be done up! You look great - buy it!

Bamboofordinneragain · 18/10/2017 13:44

Buy it! It looks great, and you will never need to do it up, even when you can. They look all wrong zipped up. I love my biker jacket.

KoalaD · 18/10/2017 13:48

It looks fab!! If it was any bigger, it'd look too big.

You look very cool and have a great figure. 👌

Therealslimshady1 · 18/10/2017 13:49

It looks really nice

I wear my leather jacket like a blazer, ie as an additional layer that I never do up

Wearing a leather jacket with a dress is my favourite style of dressing, a bit "feminine", a bit "tough" Grin

icedwatermelon · 18/10/2017 13:50

You look fab! I never do my leather jacket up it won't go round my mum tum

Where's your dress from please it's like lovely

Aquarius26 · 18/10/2017 13:52

Looks great! Doesn’t look too small at all. I have a flat chest and still never do any of my leather jackets up I think most leather or pleather jackets look better undone, I don’t think I have ever actually seen anyone wear one zipped up before

SuperDuperJezebel · 18/10/2017 14:02

Looks gorgeous, where is it from? I'm having the same post baby still losing weight, feeling mumsy problem and I miss my leather jacket!

ChinUpChestOut · 18/10/2017 14:10

I bought about 3 leather jackets, different styles over the previous 8 years when I was a size 12/14. During that time, I managed to gain enough weight to get myself to a BIG size 16. Still wore the jackets, never did them up, and they still looked good. I'm back down to a size 12 now, and I still don't do them up. I think they look better undone, otherwise they're all boxy.

You look great in yours. Keep it, and wear it with a scarf when you need to be a bit warmer.

mishfish · 18/10/2017 14:12

Looks fab!!!! I hope you’ve bought it 😁

I’m tiny with small boobs and look ridiculous with a leather jacket done up. I don’t think anyone looks good with it done up!

B1rdonawire · 18/10/2017 14:17

This thread has inspired me to go and try on my old leather jacket - hanging reproachfully on the back of the bedroom door, only just rescued from a suitcase where I'd hidden it while I got bigger, and bigger. Anyway, a few stone down but by no means all the way there, I'm now wearing it as I type! With a big scarf, and I couldn't really do it up without looking like a sausage about to burst, but I now know it is the Right Thing not to do it up, so it's all fine Grin Grin Grin

Jacketornot · 18/10/2017 14:18

I bought it! It's from h&m, not really leather as it's £35, probably should have said.

Dress is ancient from New Look.

Thanks everyone. Feel really cheered up. Now just need to not stand in front of the mirror at home until I convince myself it's awful!

I never do mine up even though I can. I think it looks more casual chic that way!

Backoff85 · 18/10/2017 14:25

You look great, very nice legs!

Get it!

Im skinny but never do mine up I dont think they look good closed. If its cold I just wear it with an epic scarf

Backoff85 · 18/10/2017 14:26

Oooh saw you got it. Nice 😊

MrTrebus · 18/10/2017 14:26
