To buy leather jacket that doesn't do up

I think leather jackets look awesome. But I am a size 16 with big boobs and anytime I try one I look like a big shouldered, boxy blob. I think they look best on petite, small boobed women - but regularly see people my size or bigger wearing them looking super cool and always wonder if I'm just being over critical of myself or just haven't found the right jacket yet.

Anyway. Just tried one on. It's a 14 as there was no bigger on the rack and I think it looks ok. Fits well on my back and shoulders and is fitted such that you keep some shape. But there is no way in hell I could do it up. I've read this is ok with leather jackets - that doing them up doesn't always look great anyway. But surely I'll just look like I've stuffed myself in something too small?

NC as I have pictures I'm too scared to post but don't want anyone to recognise me with my regular name if I do get the courage!!

DP recently said I should have confidence in myself and wear what I want rather than "motherly" clothes that I think hide me. I think he felt bad that he used the term motherly but he's right. Since gaining weight I've tried to hide. I'm losing now (a stone down but 2.5 stone from my heaviest ever) and wonder if now is the time to go for it. I'm just sick of thinking something looks good til I get home and change my mind.

Is it unreasonable to not be able to do up a leather jacket?

I have the same issue with big boobs. I bought a beautiful leather jacket from Jigsaw in a 14 and a 16. I could do the 16 up but it made me look massive! I bought the 14 and if it's cold etc I wear a big scarf to sort of 'plug' the gap at the front! And I get lots of compliments on it!

I have one that I can do up if I breathe in but it doesn't look right done up so I never do. I also add a big scarf if cold.

I am like you- smallish frame but big boobs. If I buy work jackets that do up they are huge on my shoulders and waist, so I just buy them to fit my body and don't worry about doing them up!

It's absolutely fine - doesn't look too small at all. I would never look at you and think "she couldn't do that jacket up"

Looks good! I never do mine up - technically it does zip up but only just. I'd previously bought one in my normal size that did up comfortably and I looked a complete horror in it. They're boxy things, they suit curves best if they're fitted close and left open.

It looks fab! I live in my leather jacket (same style as yours) and never do it up. They look much better open.

Oh my god I wasn't expecting such lovely replies. My self esteem has been in the gutter so long I feel a bit tearful at the kindness actually. I was expecting comments either saying it was far too small or possibly saying the jacket looked ok but to sort out the rest of my outfit . Thanks everyone

Do they have bigger sizes you can try on so you can compare? I used to have a grey leather jacket which I fastened up only halfway due to the same problem in the bosom department. It looked all right but eventually I got fed up with it on windy days as it was so 'flippy-flappy' iyswim.
I've now got two biker jackets which aren't leather and again I only zip up the bottom part. As I'm not tall and willowy I just hope that they look reasonably elegant. No-one's actually said to my face that I look like a baby elephant but you never know.

I wish I had good legs like you, mine are short and stumpy... a bit like the rest of me.

You look great, lovely jacket & dress . it's cool to leave it open, I've got an All Saints military style jacket which I can't do up now, so just wear it open or else it would just sit in my wardrobe looking at me!
