AIBU to take 2 week old back to the doctors?

Took my son to the doctors on Monday as he got a rash/spots on his forehead, she said he seemed fine and said it was heat rash. However this morning it’s flared up on his cheek even though we’ve made sure he hasn’t been hot at any point. I’ve had a google (I know, Dr Google) and it also looks like baby acne? (Included a screenshot of baby acne)
He isn’t unwell at all and is feeding fine and has the normal amount of wet nappies.
He was really poorly after birth with sepsis so I’m probably airing on the side of caution but it’s really stressing me out

Looks like perfectly normal baby skin to me but if you are worried then go.

My son got the exact same rash on his cheeks around that age and I took him to the gp who prescribed zerobase, which made it much much worse. I ended up binning the evil zerobase and putting coconut oil on his cheeks and the rash cleared up.

It does look like baby acne but there’s no point you sitting there stressed when a visit to the doc should set your mind at rest - no one could blame you for feeling anxious given how poorly he was and he’s still only tiny. Xx

I would go especially if it’s making you stressed. Don’t feel bad about making an appt

I would contact your HV/midwife first rather then a gp appointment, it looks perfectly normal tho

with such a small baby, doctors never mind if you go in.

You could also pop into a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to take a look, they can advise on things like this.

But new borns do go through a spotty phase, they used to be called milk spots and it is really common. Their skin settles down after a while. It looks just like your babies skin.

generally with babies if the are fine in themselves and feeding well and have wet nappies etc and no temp. Then you are all ok.

Can you contact HV rather than GP? They might have a drop in centre if they're not all closed down by the Tories My HV prescribed Cetreben for the same type of spots. I bathed skin in the morning with water then put Cetreben on and it cleared up but did take a while

Is he BF? It really does look like baby acne. My DD had it pretty bad! The reason I ask if he's BF is because your post-party's hormones pass through your milk and can cause it

You would never ever be unreasonable to take a baby you are worried about to a doctor. Any health professional that makes you feel otherwise it's a disgrace. Most doctors I know love seeing a baby and reassuring its mother.

If going to your health visitor won't give you peace of mind, then go to your GP.

Rashes are notoriously difficult to diagnose, but it does look like baby acne to me.

My DD certainly had skin like that as newborn.

As your DS was so ill at birth, I can see why you would be extra cautious though.

Deffo get the HV to have a look - my son was spotty when he came home, when we moved house a couple of weeks later, he was sensitive to dust

Looks like baby acne, but I don't think any doctor would mind seeing such a young baby, particularly one who's already been very ill.

I think if your worried even on here views wont help after a point hun.if just going to the docs will help you feel at ease then go.its what they are there for.its always scary with a baby to know whether your over worrying becaue its a given you just do.but there are some things that just don't leave ur gut and so a quick apt will do that either way.

I also think it looks exactly like my DD1's skin at that age (milk spots or whatever they're officially called) BUT I have no medical training and I'd go to the doc myself in your situation.

(By the way, your baby is gorgeous! I'm overdue with my third and this has made me all excited to see his little face )

You’ve all reassured me massively. I’m due to see the health visitor tomorrow so I’ll wait until then. Reassuring no one thinks I should go rushing to the doctors today!!

They look like milk spots to me too but like others habe said the gp won't mind reassuring you ethier so do make a appointment with out feeling guilty.

And about the worrying..... it get a worse the older and more independent they get . They will be 50 and your still worry about your baby

It looks perfectly normal to me, babies can be very spotty little things. Between hormones, milk, general dribble, rubbing their little faces on their bed linen etc. They've just come out of a totally different environment so everything they're exposed to is new & comparatively harsh on their skin.

If it was me I'd put a little coconut oil on it.

Him having sepsis must have been terrifying, but, you need to find a way to come to terms with it and it being something that happened & accept that he's ok now or you are going to be very stressed out & not enjoy these few months. They really do grow so fast, don't miss out on the absolute delight of having a newborn by worrying.

However, never hesitate to take him to a HV, nurse, doctor or A&E if you are worried. Better too often than not often enough.💐

Looks like a milk rash or possibly the beginnings of eczema. Make sure you don't wash him with anything other than water. No shampoos or lotions or washes. I used stuff on my PFB for the first week or so and he was covered in rashes like that. He had eczema later from around 6mo so I think it was the beginning of sensitive skin.

PS. Are your nails really painted with a newborn? High FIVE!!

I would definitely say baby acne! My DS got it at 2 weeks old too and I was devastated for his beautiful baby skin! it cleared up within a couple of weeks to be replaced with cradle cap, to be replaced with eczema....my poor DS was spotty or scabby for most of the first 6 months!

There's no other solution but to hand this clearly spotty baby over to me! I'll look after him, I Promise!

Look at the way he's lying on you (not one bit envious, nope) he's got his face on your top (material & laundry products), warm & a bit of dribble no doubt... all ways of getting a few spots, it's nothing to be worried about. And definitely nothing to change, his skin will soon get used to it all.
