To ask what to do with the cat?

There's been a cat yowling outside my front door for a good 10 minutes. It's pissing it down here and the poor thing is probably drenched. Am I okay to let it in until it stops raining/overnight? None of us have ever had a cat, we're not sure what to do with it.

Aww I know you shouldn’t feed the cat, but let’s face it, who can resist a wee soggy moggy!

Ts27 · 17/10/2017 23:58

'I really think that all cat owners should post pictures of their cats on this thread because I love them so, so much!!!'

Ha ha I agree! Here is our little cutie

This is Geoffrey. Shared just because I love him

Of course you should feed it. The chances of it being an owned cat on a special diet are quite remote. The chances of it being a hungry stray are very high. And in any case a day or two of feeding shouldn't hurt regardless. And any cat on a special diet should be chipped and you will be able to find out if that's the case soon enough.

Poor baby! Was he still there demanding breakfast?

FleurDelacourr · 18/10/2017 08:19

We've taken him to the vet this morning and he isn't chipped. Also they said he looks a bit skinny so may have been missing for a few days and it was fine to feed him. I've logged him on animalsearchuk thanks for the link @Zuzu and put a description of him on the local lost and found page on fb but there's been nothing so far. I'm just making posters to put up in the nearest town and village but they are 5 and 8 miles away so I don't know how likely it is that he's come from there.

I've given him some water this morning but no food and left the kitchen door open but he's still sitting quite happily in the box I made for him. I will update later if we find anything!

Congratulations on your new overlord.

Pic of mine who arrived in similar circumstances. She loves vans, delivery vans, electricians vans, RAC van so I wonder if that is how she arrived.

She is currently fed / watered by various neighbours she has conned into beliein she is a stray kitten (she is small).

ALL of these cats are gorgeous.

That little silver tabby kitten . . . . . . .

That elegant Black And Midnight Cat . . .

All of those exquisite tabbies

Mittens1969 · 18/10/2017 10:04

2 of my 4 cats! I would never be without cats, my DH has learned to tolerate sharing the house with them. They’re much easier than people to get on with. Smile

Hope that if the puss belongs to someone it can be reunited with them quickly. Otherwise looks like you’re its owner sorry slave for life!

I now need a cat called Anorak.

I shall claim it's an ancient Icelandic name in need of renaissance.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/10/2017 10:30

Someone I know, a while ago, fly tipped a cat.

Apparently it was being a wee shit and kept on breaking into their house by either accessing upstairs windows or breaking their swanky microchip catflap (at £70 a time), It would come in terrorise their cat, eat it's food and spray everywhere. It was doing it to a lot of the neighbours houses, had broken stuff from their windowsils etc. People had spoken to the owner and asked if they would get it neutered to see if that would help but they weren't receptive. It wasn't causing them a problem just everyone else.

Anyway, person I know got hacked off after flap broken for 2nd time, house stinking of cat pee, terrified pet and his toothbrush knocked into the toilet, that he caught it next time it came in the house, stuck it in the car, drove 20 miles and released it in the middle of a housing estate.

That might expalin why you have cat that doesn't seem to have gone missing locally.

I'm not advocating the aquantances actions, but I can understand how he got to that point.

Personally, I'd have trapped the owner at the same time as the cat and fly tipped them together as it wasn't really the cat's fault.

Tinty · 18/10/2017 10:33

These are my cats, on the day we got the little white kitten, they curled up together to go to sleep only two hours after we got him.

They have lived together happily playing and sleeping for 10 months now.

Flytipping a cat, what a C*nt. They could easily have 'dumped' it at the nearest rescue and served the same purpose.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/10/2017 10:39

That's what I said maddie I don't think he thought of that. It was an old work colleague. He may have just been making it up of course. I'd be surprised if that didn't happen from time to time though. He just said it was clearly a resourceful cat so would be fine.

What a shame that it isn't chipped, I think you do need to feed it though, if it is skinny and been out for a few days it will be pretty hungry.

While it is awful to 'steal' someones pet cat, I think it can be easy to underestimate just how many cats are homeless in the uk, either by becoming lost and owners not having them chipped/neutered and giving up on finding them, or being born as ferals.

We had one that hung around for seven years at least before we realised that nobody owned him, he is now a much loved house cat through his own choice. He's covered in pretty awful scars and had an obviously very hard life with lots of old injuries.

I know if mine were missing I'd much prefer to see them sheltered, fed, safe and comfortable while the finder made an attempt to locate the owner.

Hopefully someone will come forwards for yours op, but if not and you don't want to keep him then please try to rehome him through a rescue and not free to good home.
