As aptly dubbed by his own Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson.

Old thread:

And as I love giving you images to haunt your dreams, here’s another one, blasphemously titled ‘Our Lord and Saviour’.

What title this time? Something arrest-related I hope

Gumpendorf · 30/10/2017 12:20

Manafort close enough (even though Trump has tried to disown him). He knows the details of how this was set up and Mueller will hope he will flip.

The counter attack is going to be both fascinating and terrifying in equal measure.

PerkingFaintly · 30/10/2017 12:22

Yy, highly appreciated Pain.

What with that and today's unfolding news, my To Do list is going to be left all forlorn today...

Manafort! Good. Keenly awaiting details...

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2017 12:23

So not such a 'little fish' after all. From what I'm hearing on the news the indictment deals mostly (completely?) with unregistered foreign agent 'shenanigans' before the campaign, so theoretically nothing to 'tie' directly to Scrotus. So the question remains, 'what does Manafort know and when did he know it'. And will he 'flip' or won't he?

I can hardly wait for the locked-in-the-loo Twitter storm from Scrotus.

PerkingFaintly · 30/10/2017 12:24

Gumpendorf, you're not wrong. Can't remember who said upthread that this is why the Uranium-Clinton story has been launched, but I bet that's right.

PricklyBall · 30/10/2017 12:25

Just as a technical question, can Trump sack Mueller? I thought one of the reasons for appointing Mueller as special counsel (rather than some of the other legal options available) was that it means he's "outside Trump's chain of command" as it were, and can't be sacked by the president. (Question submitted by a confused Brit...)

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2017 12:28

Prickly Scrotus cannot directly fire Mueller. BUT he can order the Attorney General to do it. And if the AG won't, he can fire the AG and appoint a new one (although the appointment is subject to Senate approval). Nixon tried to do this re Watergate (Google Watergate Saturday Night Massacre)

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2017 12:29

Manafort has now surrendered to the FBI per MSNBC

cozietoesie · 30/10/2017 12:33

Not such a little fish, No, Across. But a seemingly straightforward indictment?

Gumpendorf · 30/10/2017 12:35

Perking I'm still bemused at why WaPo created such a fanfare over the dossier though. They should really have known better. Or does Jeff Bezos want his tax cut too?

The WSJ editorial was clearly Murdoch led but I'm also interested why they not only wanted Mueller sacked but Nunes reinstated. What was the agenda there? I do hope Murdoch gets his comeuppance in the US for his relationship with Trump.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2017 12:40

I think 'straightforward' as far as the charges go cozie. Mueller's pretty methodical and wouldn't issue an indictment without pretty strong evidence of wrongdoing. But possibly not so straightforward as far as expected 'results'. What we don't know is if the indictment is 'all there is' or if it's actually a fishing expedition for 'bigger fish'. Time will tell but methinks I'm smelling overheated paper shredders and hearing the mad clicking of emails/tweets/text messages being deleted from the direction of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2017 12:41

MSNBC reporting that under normal proceedings Manafort should be arraigned today at which time the indictment should be made public.

But there's nothing normal about this, is there?

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2017 12:43

I'm still bemused at why WaPo created such a fanfare over the dossier though.

Well, a story is still a story and a newspaper is in the business of selling newspapers. I think the WaPo wasn't going to pass over the possibility of a juicy story, no matter who the players were.

cozietoesie · 30/10/2017 12:54

I hear you. Smile

Dunlurking · 30/10/2017 12:56

Good news at last. Just delurking to ask someone to start a new thread before I lose you.

Also just wanted to post a link - the Live updates on CNN have a beautiful just beautiful clip of Manafort walking into the FBI offices this morning edition.cnn.com/2017/10/30/politics/russia-investigation-manafort-latest/index.html

@NatashaBertrand
Charges against Manafort include tax fraud, per the WSJ

PainInTheEerie · 30/10/2017 12:57

I couldn’t see in the ny times piece it was definitely for tax fraud but apols if I just missed it

Gumpendorf · 30/10/2017 13:03

Across I get the point but I hoped they would be more grown up about this. The press shares the responsibility for Trump et al, after all.

Meanwhile, WSJ is now trashing its reputation to protect Trump. Is it all about the tax cuts?

Thank you for the updates. And the clarification on the process across.
Can't wait to see the house of cards beginning to collapse. And the lack of a twitter shitstorm from the orange ghoul is ominous.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 30/10/2017 13:06

Ooh! I can't keep up I'm at work! Sad Keep posting - I can do some sneaky looks whilst pretending I'm working Grin
