... A bit upset to be referred to, by a 3rd party, as 'huge'?

Just this....

Someone referred to me as this... You'll recognise her.. She's the huge girl...

Apart from rudeness... At what size does someone become 'huge'.. I appreciate it's all relative etc etx...

PS I'm an (in proportion) size 18-20 and 5 foot 8. So to me tallish and curvy...

Yeah huge is inaccurate
I’m tall and fat and get “big” a lot which is hurtful but not inaccurate (fwiw 5’10.5 and size 18)
For me curvy is more about shape than size - so when nigella was bigger she was curvy and is now because small waist big boobs. I have no waist so am just fat

MissWilmottsGhost · 11/10/2017 10:46

Maybe if she is 5'0" and skinny she does see you as huge compared to herself.

It doesn't sound like she said it to your face, so who told you? They must have known it would be hurtful.

I reckon somewhere between 10-16 is prob proportionate for 5’8. When I went down to a 12 everyone said I looked skinny. Although you know, everyone carries weight differently, frame sizes etc

NannyRed · 11/10/2017 10:47

I'd describe a size 20 as huge.

You might think it rude, and I'm sorry you were hurt by the remark, but it's true.

Anything under size 10 = tiny

12/14/16 average

18 is a big girl

20 and above is huge in my eyes.

PetalMettle · 11/10/2017 10:49

You can’t describe a 16 as average and a 20 as huge. There’s 4 inches difference Hmm

ownedbySWD · 11/10/2017 10:50

I was very uncomfortable as a size 20 at your same height. I knew in myself that I was too big, but I would have been heartbroken to hear someone describe me that way.

Unfortunately, my food addictions are easy for other people to see and judge; other addictions seem to be easier to hide away.

Secretsthatnevershouldbetold · 11/10/2017 10:50

Even if it was true, actually describing someone as "huge" is fucking rude. Why say hurtful things, just because they are "true"?

And describing someone as "a big girl"? Really? How patronising...

Unfortunately, people have only got time to spend talking about one feature. For you its size.

People are pass remarkable sods. Even if you lost weight, they'd probably refer to you as "The one who used to be huge".

PetalMettle · 11/10/2017 10:52

But then she classes 12 and 16 as both average - which is also 4 inches of fat different

user1471459936 · 11/10/2017 10:53

If size 20 isn't huge, what size is?!

ThePeanutGallery · 11/10/2017 10:53

OP, you are going to get lots of nasty comments on this thread. Mostly from people with their own prejudices and issues with weight.

In reality, the comment was rude, and if you're comfortable at your size than what other people think shouldn't matter.

Birdsgottafly · 11/10/2017 10:53

18-20, is very big.

I'm pushing into a size 18 and I'd say I'm huge. As I walk around I'm certainly not the biggest, but in real terms, I am very big.

ShellyBoobs · 11/10/2017 10:53

It was very rude of her to describe you like that.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 11/10/2017 10:54

It was an adult.... Ironically this person is at least a 16 and about 5foot tall...

I was a walking past a reception area and one person was describing me to another...

In proportion, in that I fit into a size 18-20..with big boobs/hips and a waist

Yes as someone said... I would think huge, when you have to have walls removed /need reinforced chairs etc...

OP posts:
Wellfuckmeinbothears · 11/10/2017 10:54

That was incredibly rude and nasty of them and to all the posters saying “oh well 5ft 8 and size 18-20 is huge/you’ve gone past curvy/see it as a wake up call”...are you for real?! So if someone who was a size 6 was described as scrawny behind their back that wouldn’t be offensive?

Huge is a horrid and unnecessary word to use to describe someone when they could have easily said the tall lady with dark hair etc.

PetalMettle · 11/10/2017 10:55

Worth pointing out a 20 in h and m is a 16 in jaeger, so in that logic you can go from huge to average just by changing shop...

AngelaTwerkel · 11/10/2017 10:57

"I'd describe a size 20 as huge."

To their face? Then I'd describe you as unspeakably ill-mannered.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 11/10/2017 10:58

I'd describe someone calling someone else 'huge' 'A fucking twat'.

Sorry, but it's true.

Hmm

NannyRed What you THINK is up to you. What you SAY is another matter. Would you describe someone with glasses as 'four eyes' or someone with only one leg as 'Hop a long?'

If you would then maybe staying home is your best option. If you wouldn't, then maybe think about why not and have a wee think about why that doesn't extend to huge.

jennawade · 11/10/2017 10:59

When I think 'huge' I don't think about people needing walls knocked down to leave the house? Those people are on a different scale.

Size 20 is well above average. And probably medically obese - so the term 'curvy' is not accurate.

I'm sorry your feelings were hurt. It's up to you what you do with everyone's feedback.

VladmirsPoutine · 11/10/2017 10:59

For some reason I thought this thread was going to be about you being pregnant and someone described you as huge. I'd have said never mind.

But whilst the language they used was crass perhaps this might signal that you need to address your weight.

Yes it's being rude, and very unprofessional in the work context that OP describes.
