In thinking cheese and beans on toast...

... is completely different to cheese on toast with beans?

I say the two are completely different meals. DH says that I'm clearly wrong and it's the same meal prepared differently. He also thinks there's a right and wrong way.

Cheese on toast with beans = toast, then cheese (duh), with beans on top.

Beans on toast with cheese = toast, beans, THEN grated or thinly sliced cheese melted on top.

AIBU to think these are different meals?

(In case it's not obvious, this is a light-hearted thread and my attempt to distract myself while I wait to find out if I have an out-of-hours doctor's appointment for my sudden inability to breathe very effectively. Wink).

All these subliminal marketing messages from mumsnet, first I feel the need to rush out and buy soap instead of shower gel and now tomorrow will be buying beans, cheese and bread Smile

So I'll be making it the proper way. Beans on buttered toast with cheese on top, I don't put it under the grill as the cheese melts as long as beans are really hot.

BackforGood · 10/10/2017 23:34

The only proper way is beans on toast, with grated or slithered cheese on top of that.

Cheese on toast on it's own is nice.
Beans on toast OK.
Cheese on toast with beans on top is just not right.

Butter has no place in any of those meals.

I was having a cheeky sausage sandwich in a cafe recently and was asked if I wanted butter on the bread. I was -> Hmm . Wrong I tell you. Just wrong.

Microwaved beans do not go mushy enough

Beans are rank. Disgusting food.

Shuffles off knowing I am possibly the only person ever to think this way.

I do however buy them for my DH, but refuse to cook them!

You are not alone MaxPepsi Smile

Every combination mentioned so far is better with a fried egg on top. Even the one that has a poached egg already.

Beans on toast with cheese are cheesey beanos Smile. Never tried the other way but I'd agree it's a diff meal. The order would make it taste very different.

SweetCrustPastry · 11/10/2017 00:40

They are different - but putting beans ON cheese-on-toast makes the cheese on toast go soggy, so it needs to be cheese-on-toast WITH beans - never on top.

and cheesy beans on toast is another completely different meal. along with cheesy beans in a bowl (no toast) or cheesy beans with bread and butter. Endless different meals to choose from - at least enough for a full week of teas (with HP sauce, with Lea and Perrins, without either...)

Definitely different dishes. @Smeaton that's how I do it for DD, it's her favourite meal at the moment.
