In thinking cheese and beans on toast...

BeeFarseer · 10/10/2017 19:40

... is completely different to cheese on toast with beans?

I say the two are completely different meals. DH says that I'm clearly wrong and it's the same meal prepared differently. He also thinks there's a right and wrong way.

Cheese on toast with beans = toast, then cheese (duh), with beans on top.

Beans on toast with cheese = toast, beans, THEN grated or thinly sliced cheese melted on top.

AIBU to think these are different meals?

(In case it's not obvious, this is a light-hearted thread and my attempt to distract myself while I wait to find out if I have an out-of-hours doctor's appointment for my sudden inability to breathe very effectively. Wink).

I add grated cheese to the beans when they are in the saucepan so it melts into the sauce.

This method works a lot better with tinned spaghetti btw.

Mum2jenny · 10/10/2017 21:31

Toast cheese and beans together in any way is just wrong! Sorry, but I'd not eat it ever

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/10/2017 21:31

DerelictWreck you have given me my very first biscuit and I've been on MN for ages. Sad

Regarding coleslaw, which I love, if you're from the UK and love coleslaw, never order it in Canada. You will be extremely disappointed. What you will get is shredded cabbage and carrot mixed with cream and lots of sugar. Envy

LML83 · 10/10/2017 21:32

love beans on toast with grated cheese on top. Haven't tried the other meal!

if I have beans on toast it is a last resort. Cheesy beanos however are a delicious meal! Drinking of cheese makes a big difference!

LML83 · 10/10/2017 21:33

**sprinkling not drinking

gillybeanz · 10/10/2017 21:39

It's the same.

Toast one side of bread, turn it over and place cheese on, then grill.
Whilst grilling nuke some beans in the microwave and pour them over the toasted cheese. Confused

puffylovett · 10/10/2017 21:41

Definitely different meals. I like them either way. Loving the idea of marmite first!

Dp does - toast one side of bread, very lightly toast the other. Then butter, then melted cheese. Beans on the side. It's bloody yum but I prefer my method of just bunging it all on the plate with lashings of grated cheese on top. Has to be Branston or Heinz beans though

Butterymuffin · 10/10/2017 21:42

Different, but only beans on toast with added cheese is acceptable. Cheese on toast with beans then added on top? So wrong!

Starlight2345 · 10/10/2017 21:42

Well here is a new way of eating it...

My DS made his own beans on toast this week.

Toast with beans and then butter then cheese ????? Hmm

puffylovett · 10/10/2017 21:42

Oh, and the toast has to be crispy with lashings of butter, no melted soggy toast in this house, ooooh nooo!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 10/10/2017 21:43

Bunch of body heathens on the thread.

One is Cheese on Toast, with beans.

The others Beans & Cheese on toast.

ENTIRELY different.

FFS what's the world coming to when you have to explain the basics of life.

LuluJakey1 · 10/10/2017 21:44

I like mature cheddar on toast with cold chopped tinned tomatoes added once it is grilled.

Nyx · 10/10/2017 21:45

I love cheesy beano toasties too. A cheesy beano on its own (of course this is toast, beans, cheese melted on top) is really very nice with black pepper on top and a dash of worcester sauce. And a cup of tea.

I'm hungryyyyyyyy nowwwwwww

hudyerwheesht · 10/10/2017 21:48

Beans on toast with cheese? Food of the Gods.

Cheese on toast with beans? The fuck?

Grin
yorkshireyummymummy · 10/10/2017 21:51

Two different meals.
I like my beans in a bowl, served with either a ) hot buttered toast or b)cheese on toast, cut into triangles. Spoon a few beans onto the toast and bite, spoon a few more on and bite. I can't bear the beans actually being served on the toast. Urgghh. Toast goes all bean juice soggy. And it has to be accompanied by a very large cup of Yorkshire tea, preferably made in a pot so top ups are availiable.
And I was always a Heinz girl but I have been abducted and converted to Branston.
I'm going to have this for my tea tomorrow as of course I want it after reading this thread. Yum yum.

noeffingidea · 10/10/2017 21:57

Has anyone mentioned worcestershire sauce yet?
Toast, beans on top, then grated cheese (has to be mature or farmhouse cheddar), back under the grill then a liberal sprinkling of worcestershire sauce to finish it off.
Cheese on toast doesn't go well with beans. I like it with ketchup or caramalised onion chutney on the side.

noramum · 10/10/2017 21:59

This is DD's version to combine the two: CBBC

Cheese, Beans, Beans again, Cheese

I don't know how somebody can eat it but it seems it is a meal.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/10/2017 22:02

Heinz no added sugar are vile. Ocado tricked me into purchasing them.

C8H10N4O2 · 10/10/2017 22:04

@Smeaton Beans in a bowl with cheese on toast on side cut into fingers.

Is this picture yours? Although its small beer by comparison with some of the real horrors on that site :)

OP: Plainly two completely different meals - cheese melting on top is not at all the same as toasted cheese.

@DorisDangleberry Marmite

Are we related? Everyone outside my family recoils in horror at this combination. Which is fine, all the more marmite for us Grin I am the family heretic because I don't butter the toast.

mirime · 10/10/2017 22:46

@ everyone with surprisingly strong opinions about beans and coleslaw

It's lush!

user1497403588 · 10/10/2017 22:51

'Toast with grated cheese on top served with beans'

lol no.

it's just beans and cheese on toast.

QuestionableMouse · 10/10/2017 23:03

I know what I'm having for tea tomorrow now!

Beans on toast need brown sauce and a soft fried egg. Yum.

Worriedrose · 10/10/2017 23:21

Also you cannot microwave beans!!!!
You have to do them on the hob so they go slightly mushed, but only slightly
Semi warm, hard beans with too much juice make me sad

Of course you can microwave beans, they can still be mushy
It's called "Cheese and beanz ting" if you add bacon it's "Bacon ting"
