In thinking cheese and beans on toast...

... is completely different to cheese on toast with beans?

I say the two are completely different meals. DH says that I'm clearly wrong and it's the same meal prepared differently. He also thinks there's a right and wrong way.

Cheese on toast with beans = toast, then cheese (duh), with beans on top.

Beans on toast with cheese = toast, beans, THEN grated or thinly sliced cheese melted on top.

AIBU to think these are different meals?

(In case it's not obvious, this is a light-hearted thread and my attempt to distract myself while I wait to find out if I have an out-of-hours doctor's appointment for my sudden inability to breathe very effectively. Wink).

Beans on top of cheese on toast is just about acceptable. Cheesy beans on toast are an abomination. Ergo, two completely different meals.

You have this the wrong way round MsRinky. Beans on top of cheese on toast is every type of wrong. Cheesy beans not so much.

MsWanaBanana · 10/10/2017 20:27

You could really go crazy and do what I do (very rarely) which is make toasted cheese, beans on top, and then grate Parmesan over the told. Double cheese beans on toast! Perfect comfort food for me 😋

DerelictWreck · 10/10/2017 20:28

What on EARTH is cheese on toast with beans?! I have never heard of this! Surely beans on toast with grated cheese is the only combination of these glorious foods allowed?

Oh, and InsomniacAnonymous....
WHAT Biscuit

dotdotdotmustdash · 10/10/2017 20:28

A' Cheesy Beano' is beans on toast with cheese on top which is grilled until it bubbles.

Anything else is just toasted cheese with beans.

Ankleswingers · 10/10/2017 20:31

Two different meals.

For me the question is what make/ brand of beans?

It has to be Heinz, no question.

You just don't mess with beans.

I tried Waitrose own brand a while ago. They were hideous. This week I tried Heinz no added sugar. Vile wasn't the word.

CaveMum · 10/10/2017 20:31

Cheese on toast with beans on top is food of the gods! Don't faff about grating the bloody cheese, just cut it thickly, pop on the toast and stick it under the grill for a few minutes to melt the cheese a bit. Top with hot beans.

Delish!

Are you one of those posters, who totally ignores anyone, who doesn’t agree with them???!!!! Hmm

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/10/2017 20:32

Toast, then beans, add grated cheese, top with poached egg here.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 10/10/2017 20:38

Dh is a beans on toast aficionado

He says your dh is wrong as well

mirime · 10/10/2017 20:42

Toast, beans, a drizzle of decent barbecue sauce (ideally from the Isle of Wight Garlic Farm), a spoonful of creamy coleslaw then grated cheese and black pepper.

That's how you make beans on toast.

Cheese on toast, obviously have to do it like a Welsh rarebit. No beans.

Worriedrose · 10/10/2017 20:42

EGGGG
ARE YOU MAD
and yes it has to be Heinz

Emillee · 10/10/2017 20:43

Beans on toast with cheese? Food of the Gods.

Cheese on toast with beans? The fuck?

Worriedrose · 10/10/2017 20:43

Yes, Mummyoflittledragon, yes yes I am. Although you haven't given your opinion on this yet, so I'm only half ignoring you until I know whether you're on my side...

Heinz beans, always.

I have feelings about coleslaw. Deep, intense feelings that tell me it is delicious but shouldn't go anywhere NEAR beans on toast with cheese. I don't even like cheese coleslaw.

OP posts:
DorisDangleberry · 10/10/2017 20:56

mirime you clearly are a wrong'un. Beans and coleslaw should not even be in the same postcode, let alone on the same plate.

The correct answer of course is, in the following order:
Toast
Butter
Marmite
Beans
Grated Cheese
Black Pepper

Floellabumbags · 10/10/2017 20:57

I don't like cheese on toast with beans but I love beans on toast with cheese (and brown sauce)

user1492958275 · 10/10/2017 20:58

idk why anyone would cook cheese on toast then add beans on top

the texture would be so weird and wrong

Cheesy beans on toast however, you are correct, it's completely different!!

That's toast, with cheesy beans on, ie, cheese cooked with the beans / on top.

Cheese on toast and adding beans makes 0 sense to me, and you are doubling the cooking effort!

Ran this different version by OH he states : ''Sure it would be a different meal, but no one eats that anyway''

Skyechasemarshalsfanmum · 10/10/2017 21:07

I like cheese and bean toasties in the sandwich maker so doesnt matter which way we put them on :)

RatOnnaStick · 10/10/2017 21:11

Grated cheese
Beans
Sliced cheese
Toast

Top to bottom. Anything else is silly.

I don't like beans on toast with cheese, that's just wrong.

I love cheese on toast with beans with brown sauce, the food of gods

Oh and it has to be Branston Beans!

KickAssAngel · 10/10/2017 21:22

beans on one slice of toast, fried egg on second slice of toast, cheese grated over the beans, is known as "posh beans on toast" in our house.
