I hate the fucking annoying, saccharine voiceover at the opening airport scene
I hate Emma Thompsons irritating character and hammy acting
I hate Hugh Grants insistence on playing himself
I hate how we're supposed to find Martines character so salt of the earth and endearing- shes fucking annoying
I hate the Liam Neeson storyline and his weird relationship with his weird woolly haired kid who should be getting a life
Im left unmoved by Laura Linney
I absolutely cannt stand Keira Knightleys faux coy girlish smile and that entire weird stalker relationship
I can just about stomach Mr Darcy and his Portuguese squeeze...JUST ABOUT
Bill Nighy - once you've seen the song performed once you're like...whatever...zzzzzz

I find the whole film absolutely sick making and toe curling and yet every Christmas DM forces us to watch it.

Man JAW bloody typo

ChasedByBees · 07/10/2017 19:12

As soon as I read the title I thought of Love Actually. Don't get it at all.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 07/10/2017 19:13

Agree with you. It's one of Richard Curtis's worst films. Give Four Weddings and Notting Hill any day.

Emma T is OK in it, one of the few good performances.
Hugh Grant is Hugh Grant.
Martine McCutcheon is unnecessarily vulgar and self-consciously sweary.
Liam Neeson is wasted.
Laura Linney is ridiculous. She must have needed the money.
Keira K. is just plain awful in everything! Those pouty lips give me the pip.

WestEndVBroadway · 07/10/2017 19:42

Stoat The Shawshank Redemption is my all time favourite film.

MargaretTwatyer · 07/10/2017 19:43

Lala Land is a fucking awful self congratulatory wank

Verbena37 · 07/10/2017 19:47

I love it.
It’s a lovely, romantic film, you don’t have to concentrate much and it makes me feel happy.

londonista · 07/10/2017 20:45

Ahhh I have found my people!!

Love Actually gives me the rage.

simiisme · 07/10/2017 21:06

Unashamedly love it. Emma Thompson's agony at discovering her husband is cheating on her makes me sob every time I watch it.
However, just to throw my own controversial cap in the ring, I hate the following:
Dirty Dancing
Pretty Woman - 'cause you'd soooo fall in love with a man who pays for hookers
Titanic - spoiler alert: the ship sinks
Twilight - Emo twinkly vampires

Andylion · 07/10/2017 21:17

The Sound of Music is wonderful. I cry very easily but even for me that film has remarkable powers. I start weeping quietly at the opening credits and don't really stop till it's over.

Gasp, you are not alone. Years ago, when they started showing the extended version of the movie on tv, I’d tear up as the camera focussed on the babbling brook you see well before Maria comes on screen.

derxa · 07/10/2017 21:29

I do have a huge problem with Truly Madly Deeply. Simpering hammy acting Awful

Honeychild54 · 07/10/2017 21:40

I've never seen it either. Is there snow? There's always snow.

londonista · 07/10/2017 21:43

It always snows in movie London at Christmas don’t you know!

tigercub50 · 07/10/2017 21:45

I love “ Love Actually “ & we watch it every Christmas Eve. “ The Sound of Music” is one of my favourite films

Andylion · 07/10/2017 21:49

What I really hated in LA was the kid who got to choose his animal for The Nativity play and he chose a lobster or octopus or whatever. All for the cheap visual laugh of HG sitting in the back of the car with him.

Also, how were the porn-standins connected to the other characters?

Andylion · 07/10/2017 21:53

For Sound of Music lovers.

To hate a much loved film with so much passion
zukiecat · 07/10/2017 21:53

I can’t stand Love Actually, terrible film

Can I add

Grease
Dirty Dancing
Any Toy Story film
Each and every “Romantic Comedy” film ever made

The term “RomCom” gives me The Rage

GabsAlot · 07/10/2017 21:54

GabsAlot · 07/10/2017 22:01

Mumof41987 · 07/10/2017 22:04

It's a pile of Shite ! Hate it

rednsparkley · 07/10/2017 22:06

I am indifferent to LA but v.v.v.v.v. pleased to see hatred for Dirty Dancng on this thread Grin I cannot STAND that film Envy -- not envy!

Andylion · 07/10/2017 22:26

Thanks, Gabs.

Does anyone know if the cut storylines are a DVD somewhere? Not that I’d buy it, just wondering.

Andylion · 07/10/2017 22:27

La la Land, couldn’t finish it. Didn’t care and I like both RG and ES.

Abra1d · 07/10/2017 22:31

I loathe Mamma Mia.

ArDali1 · 07/10/2017 22:33

It's also Keira Knightleys annoying pout face she pulls in every single movie.......

I have to also add Titanic, and Romeo & Juliet
Hate those movies (I know not Christmas ones )
But I absolutely HATE both movies and there are lots of other movies that people somehow love, that I also hate............

LellyMcKelly · 07/10/2017 22:36

You are right, it's shite - as is Bridget Jones diaries, 4 weddings and a funeral, and all those Too Smuggy Smug Smug movies, full of overeducated, undertalented, wet, sappy, smug, people. Bridget Jones' Diary was one of the funniest books I'd ever read, but the Bridget of the books was funny, feisty, smart, and devil may care, not the sappy soggy version we got in the movie. Kate Winslett was the best Bridget Jones we never had.
