I know it gets disguised as laughing at certain children's names, phrases, etc, but there is a lot of threads on MN that is really about laughing at poorer people. Hate it.

Exactly 40k wage and 250k debt isn't middle class, that job could disappear tomorrow and in a few months have no job, home or anything to your name.

So you're only middle class if you have no debt, own your own land/home outright and don't need to rely on your job for your income? Hmm

Oblomov17 · 05/10/2017 15:37

Ponders what job tippz does? And how little she earns? Grin

Her bitter jealousy is priceless. No not actually priceless. We can put a price on it. The hourly rate of some of the 6 figure salaried mn’ers!!

ditzyglamour · 05/10/2017 15:40

rosewhite I am not generalising. Notice I wrote 'apparently'. As that was the general consensus on my thread about disliking the term tea.

ditzyglamour · 05/10/2017 15:42

Myrtle - I feed my kids the same time as the adults. Anywhere from 5.30-7pm. Anything after lunch is a snack (sandwich/toast etc) dinner is the main meal-at whatever time

Taratill · 05/10/2017 15:45

I really don't see the issue of whether you call a meal tea or dinner. I use both pretty interchangeably.

I don't think it has anything to do with class it's to do with regional dialect.

0hCrepe · 05/10/2017 15:49

I meant am I supposed to pretend to like stuff I don't like. If you're implying working class people cant have good taste or the same taste as me though you're wrong. My wc stepdad was the one who filled the house with antiques and wc dh got me into mid century modern stuff.

Golftee · 05/10/2017 16:11

We're all in the gutter. Some of us are looking at the stars.

BigChocFrenzy · 05/10/2017 16:39

The Office for National Statistics - for Tippz:

Over 3.9 million people earn at least £96k p.a.
That's 8.6% of people with internet access

The income range with the largest number of people is £32-48k p.a.

To hate the laughing at "lower class" people on here?
Coconutspongexo · 05/10/2017 16:58

Tippz are you perpetually unemployed?

silkpyjamasallday · 05/10/2017 17:00

Class on MN seems to bring out the worst in people. Before I joined MN I was aware of it from reading in newspapers that it was influential in terms of politics and what not, and was under the assumption that it was very middle class and full of well educated women. However, since I have joined and read a great deal on here (I'm a SAHM so have the time) I've noticed that the ideas of what constitutes middle class here are very different to my own.

It seems to me that the vast majority of the people who consider themselves middle class are what I would consider 'lower' middle class and very aspirational, which is why there is so much nastiness and vitriol in class based discussions. People posting about brands like Boden and F&B simply because they think these brands exemplify the middle classes which they wish to ape. They are no different to the 'chavvy' women who wear flashy branded gear that these posters would sneer at, it's just different people have different aspirations.

mrsRosaPimento · 05/10/2017 17:02

Regardless of status, we all have holes in our arses and sit down to shit.

How common!Grin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 05/10/2017 17:06

I dont give a shit what class i am or anyone else

But i do think its funny that tippz thinks everyone on here is lying

I'm sure some people do but not everyone

I work in a dress shop 6 hours a week for minimum wage...or do i???

Actually no idea why anyone would lie about that...its not particularly interesting

redmarkone · 05/10/2017 17:08

i'm wading in... there are few middle class people tbh. there are a lot of wannabe or lower middle class. i admit i'm probably a bit aspiring but im not materialistic nor am i deluded or nasty about others choices or lifestyle. argos is fine and uses same suppliers as white company!

redmarkone · 05/10/2017 17:10

its just branded differently and marketing budgets vary

SandSnakeofDorne · 05/10/2017 17:15

I'm Grin that tippz thinks people are making up perfectly ordinary, dull jobs like teacher, solicitor or academic. Most people I know do that level of job, because they're sort of middle of the road types as many people are. What sort of jobs do people you know do?

How ridiculous to the PP who doesn't believe there are any real lawyers or teachers on here!I am most definitely a solicitor also, I work school pick up hours and have my own office so can mumsnet at will.

I'm also a northerner and my nana's saying after tea was.... "Well if that's me tea I've ad it" good old Lancashire mill lass she was.

And we've all had our tea in this household already. Kids and I are home by 4pm and i need to digest my food before yoga at 7pm so we always have our tea around 5pm.

TheGuffalo · 05/10/2017 17:31

Yanbu I especially hate the sneery threads about home decor. Fuck me. And don’t pretend it’s all good fun. Yes, some Diy projects won’t make it in Better Homes and gardens but if someone is trying to make their house a home and feel good about themselves, why shit all over them?

wannabestressfree · 05/10/2017 17:39

@mrsRosaPimento sadly I do not. No hole here- I have a Barbie bottom.... it’s just for show ;) I can also poo whilst shopping, working and sleeping 💤

I have a colostomy :)

GoldSpot · 05/10/2017 17:42

Yes. I really noticed this in a recent thread comparing Netmums to Mumsnet. Very sneery. I think it is more intellectual snobbery than money/class related.

PandorasXbox · 05/10/2017 17:48

Agree with Bluntness way back. It’s not just the wc that get berated. Far from it.

Clandestino · 05/10/2017 17:48

And now let's start a discussion on what kind of people wear clothes from Primark or Lidl. The common muck....

PortiaCastis · 05/10/2017 17:51

Yes Gold and someone actually posted on that thread that difference between here and Netmums was that the OHs were in prison! I'm on both sites and took exception to that bleddy awful post and reported it
