Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?

There is another thread where a chaperone gave a child with SN a toy rat to keep them quiet. I read the thread and was appalled and yet comforted by the pictures of the rat. Didn't want to hijack that thread but it reminded me of Hartley Hare, who was a terrifyingly bad puppet in a kids show in my youth. The show was called Pipkins I think and included Topov the Monkey and a tortoise, whose name I can't remember.

Am I the oldest and/or most disturbed MNer? As, while Hartley terrified me he also brought joy to my heart because he was such a bad little shit! I think 70s kids TV may have been dominated by people on some sort of recreational substances to be fair.

youreanarseholedenise not only do I remember little mole but I have one of my very own (minus one arm!). I loved him when I was little even though the stories were often sad and I remember him crying a lot!

That's a penguin that identifies as a mole, surely? Confused

Alwaysreadyforablether · 04/10/2017 16:50

Parsley the Lion was from The Herbs and there was also Dill the Dog.
I used to love Mr Benn and Bod - there used to be a section in Bod with a frog conducting an orchestra and it drank milkshakes and would say "today I'll have straaaaaawberry" - does anyone else remember that?

RaskolnikovsGarret · 04/10/2017 16:50

Does anyone remember Itsy and Bitsy the spider puppets? No one else ever does? Sad

Alwaysreadyforablether · 04/10/2017 16:52

I remember Itsy and Bitsy - one was orange and one was yellow (very 70s colours!) and they had big eyelashes

YoureAnArseholeDenise · 04/10/2017 16:54

Yep! Itsy and Bitsy with their squeaks and Susan Stranks

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 04/10/2017 16:54

I think I’m older than anyone on here. Muffin the Mule, The Woodentops, Andy Pandy etc. All in the 50s.

sparklyelephant · 04/10/2017 16:55

I'm an oldie too,
This thread brought back some memories Smile

hollygolipo · 04/10/2017 16:55

Just popping in to say The Flumps and the Babapapas...

I'm going to have nightmares about Hartley Hare tonight.

SpiderWilly · 04/10/2017 16:55

I remember all of these. Does anyone remember Painting with Nancy?

DaisyDrip · 04/10/2017 16:57

I remember all of those. The Woodentops with Spotty dog. Such innocent days. Imagine some of the things we watched or played with now.

DJBaggySmalls · 04/10/2017 16:57

RaskolnikovsGarret Yes! They were on Paperplay Smile

DaisyDrip · 04/10/2017 16:58

Very vaguely. I wouldn't have if you hadn't mentioned it. I can't remember much about the program but the name is familiar.

SpiderWilly · 04/10/2017 17:00

I remembered more, the Double Deckers, Playaway, The Banana Splits.

Polgara2 · 04/10/2017 17:01

I now feel really really old as I remember all these!
Yes Itsy and Bitsy - I watched them.
Are you sure the girl with the flower was called Lizzie? It doesn't sound familiar but then I've been trying to remember that for years but no one has ever heard of it.

DaisyDrip · 04/10/2017 17:02

Crackerjack, Jackanory.

At the risk of getting my knuckles rapped again, yes, sure. Izzie Wizzy lets get busy.

Rowgtfc72 · 04/10/2017 17:05

Hartley the hare was terrifying!

Anybody remember Teddy Edwards and friends?

I have most of the 70s stuff on DVD, Dd is ten and loves them. I've never introduced her to Hartley hare though, thank God Grin

wowfudge · 04/10/2017 17:07

Yes to Painting with Nancy, Itsy and Bitsy, Hartley Hare, The Herbs, Fingerbobs, Heads and Shoulders.

Tiddlywinks63 · 04/10/2017 17:08

Tales of the Riverbank
Crackerjack
Vaguely remember some woman with a sock puppet
Wooden tops - 'the spottiest dog you ever did see'

Paperclipmover · 04/10/2017 17:11

My people!

I'm 45 and remember feeling bereft when the man from Pipkins said we were watching the last ever show.

I still think of Humphrey Cushion whenever one of the family bags a spot on our very small sofa and I have to squish in next to them.

Efnisien · 04/10/2017 17:11

Aaah Button moon Smile

tinytemper66 · 04/10/2017 17:11

I remember it! Wasn’t it on at lunchtime on ITV?

quirkychick · 04/10/2017 17:12

Haha. I'm 46 and certainly remember Pipkins, Hartley Hare was a bit dodgy, though.
Also
Itsy and Bitsy
