Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?

There is another thread where a chaperone gave a child with SN a toy rat to keep them quiet. I read the thread and was appalled and yet comforted by the pictures of the rat. Didn't want to hijack that thread but it reminded me of Hartley Hare, who was a terrifyingly bad puppet in a kids show in my youth. The show was called Pipkins I think and included Topov the Monkey and a tortoise, whose name I can't remember.

Am I the oldest and/or most disturbed MNer? As, while Hartley terrified me he also brought joy to my heart because he was such a bad little shit! I think 70s kids TV may have been dominated by people on some sort of recreational substances to be fair.

Mary Mungo and Midge was great. I also remember Andy Pandy and Fingerbobs. Anyone remember The Herb Garden? Parsley the Lion was great. I really liked camberwick green the best though

squoosh · 04/10/2017 15:55

I've never heard of him before but have just googled. Wowzers, they didn't fuck about in the 1970s making things cutsie and appealing did they? He is one scaring looking hare.

MrsJayy · 04/10/2017 15:58

Aw cadlewick green was much better no foosty old pervy rabbits on candlewick green

toooldforthisshirt37 · 04/10/2017 15:59

Oooh! The memories! How could I have forgotten Pig!! He was mega.

Hartley was definitely a creepy puppet. And what about the bloke on finger bobs, (Jeffrey?) Potty Time was the stuff of nightmares! What was Parsely the Lion in? Is the barge one Rosie and Jim? That came much later. There were a lot of strange things passing for children's entertainment in my day!

Loved Mary, Mumgo and Midge. Anyone for Crystal Tips and Alistair?

We had a Pinky and Perky Christmas Album, I can't hear Carols sung without thinking wistfully of their squeaky tones!

What about On the Riverbank (Hammy Hamster)?
Torturing rodents by tying them to boats and planes?

The voices were brilliant, though.

Oh I loved Pipkins! When I was at school, they used to wheel the big telly out sometimes so we could watch Words and Pictures. Does anyone else remember that?

AFingerofFudge · 04/10/2017 16:12

queenofthemountains and milktwosugarsplease

I loved Pipkins and so few people remember it so I can never reminisce about it. My other favourite programme from that time is my username. A great theme tune too.

NearLifeExperience · 04/10/2017 16:22

Oh, I loved all those programmes mentioned above, I'm 48. I don't remember finding Hartley scary, just annoying.

The thing that scared me was Hamble, the doll on play school. Creepy looking thing with a dirty face.
