Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?

There is another thread where a chaperone gave a child with SN a toy rat to keep them quiet. I read the thread and was appalled and yet comforted by the pictures of the rat. Didn't want to hijack that thread but it reminded me of Hartley Hare, who was a terrifyingly bad puppet in a kids show in my youth. The show was called Pipkins I think and included Topov the Monkey and a tortoise, whose name I can't remember.

Am I the oldest and/or most disturbed MNer? As, while Hartley terrified me he also brought joy to my heart because he was such a bad little shit! I think 70s kids TV may have been dominated by people on some sort of recreational substances to be fair.

I am loving this thread. Yes yes to the joy of the theme tunes of The Munsters and the adams family. I annoy family by going on about the joys of The Flashing Blade which hubbie is in denial ever existed despite me warbling the theme tune.
Was equally freaked out by the singing ringing tree
Rentaghost i loved and still wish i coukd hold nose and disappear. Demonstrated that at work and no one got it.
The joys of Saturday mornings with noggin the nog. Ivor the engine. Belle and sebastien....white horses
I have found my fsvourite ever mumsnet thread. Thank you OP

Also was a bit of a late 80s rockabilly fan . loved think it was the cramps who did a version of that theme tune which i still play loudly in the car....only when on own as no one else appreciates sheer wonderfulness of it.

Hartley Hare was truly terrifying. I watched it on YouTube recently and even as a middle-aged woman he's scary.

I quite liked Hartley but my absolute favourite was Ivor the Engine, probably because it came on not long after we moved from Wales and I wasn't very happy at the new house/school so the accents reminded me of happier days. I got it on DVD for my DC and cried again when the little dragon asked the choir if they could sing Land of My Fathers...

I also loved Captain Pugwash although watching it with my DC I was a bit disappointed that the urban myths about Roger the Cabin Boy and Seaman Staines weren't true....

I remember Crackerjack, Blue Peter with Valerie Singleton, Peter Purves and John Noakes, Animal Magic, The Moomintrolls, Jackanory, The Woodentops, Andy Pandy and much more. Juke Box Jury was a fovourite of my slightly older sister.

Hartley hare was scary!
Noone has mentioned Chorlton and the Wheelies. My school nickname came from there. Kettlewitch!
Anyone remember the children of green knowe? Gods wonderful railway? Moonfleet? Moondial?

Thehop · 12/01/2020 08:33

That was my favourite! I wanted to call my
Forat dog pipkins but my dad wouldn’t call it so he was Hartley.

Aww thanks for making me smile OP

Children of Green Knowe! I read that again this Christmas, though usually never read children's books.

Flower of Gloucester about a narrowboat journey and Timeslip about a German invasion into a military base were both great.

I didn't mind Hartley but Hamble from Playschool scared the crap out of me.

HisBetterHalf · 12/01/2020 08:58
