Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?

There is another thread where a chaperone gave a child with SN a toy rat to keep them quiet. I read the thread and was appalled and yet comforted by the pictures of the rat. Didn't want to hijack that thread but it reminded me of Hartley Hare, who was a terrifyingly bad puppet in a kids show in my youth. The show was called Pipkins I think and included Topov the Monkey and a tortoise, whose name I can't remember.

Am I the oldest and/or most disturbed MNer? As, while Hartley terrified me he also brought joy to my heart because he was such a bad little shit! I think 70s kids TV may have been dominated by people on some sort of recreational substances to be fair.

I'm another who remembers most of the words to the Barnaby the Bear theme, despite not hearing it for 40+ years.
It was kinda annoying, actually.

My teddy bear was called Barnaby in honour of his namesake. I used to get the Pippin in Playland comic that had him in too.

Thanks for starting this thread OP. It's been the best one for ages IMHO.

Animal Magic was fab, all those funny voices and "Its Friday, its 5 0' clock, is CRACKERJACCCCCKKKKK" !

Barbaby the Bear was great!!

“Barnaby The bear’s my name, never call me Jack or Jane I will sing my way to fame Barnaby the bears my name” BlushBlush and I didn’t even you tube it!!! How can I remember that but then get my own DS date of birth wrong on a formShock

HamptonWick1974 · 04/10/2017 18:10

OMG - nearly 50. Used to love Kizzy, Worzel Gummage, Break in the Sun, Issi Noho, Fingerbobs, Andy Pandy (at lunchtime when I was very little). Loved Pipkins too. There was a programme about a teddy - sure he was called Teddy Edwards? Mr Ben, Trumpton, Clangers, Flumps. And a mop called Humphrey or something? Ludvig! Babapapas! Ivor the Engine! Magic Roundabout. Rhubarb & Custard. Fab TV really. All the programmes on at 5.35pm (after Blue Peter or whatever) where great!

Not kids programme, but used to love the Galloping Gourmet and Crown Court when I was little!!!

Alwaysreadyforablether · 04/10/2017 18:10

Thank you wing - glad I hadn't imagined it!

time4chocolate · 04/10/2017 18:16

hamptonwick - when I was little and off school sick I used to watch Crown Court too plus Pebble Mill and The Sullivans.

I can't buy dill without saying very quickly "I'm Dill, Dill the Dog" Also annoyingly sing "Rory, Rory, tell us a story" randomly. Pipkins did have an ostrich called Octavia and unless my memory is playing tricks then the actor who plays Audrey Roberts in Coronation Street used to voice her! She then went on to play Mrs Popov in Rentaghost, one of my all time favs and a previous MN name. Kudos to Doubledecker, another massive favourite.

soimpressed · 04/10/2017 18:18

does anyone else remember Mr Pipkin dying? It is one of my most vivid memories! A little strange to announce it in the programme - can't see that happening on cbeebies.

LetZygonsbeZygones · 04/10/2017 18:21

57 and loved Bill and Ben, The Woodentops, Tales of the Riverbank, Jackanory, The Sooty Show, Trumpton, Camberwick Green, The Herbs, Andy Pandy, Crackerjack! The Basil Brush Show and Blue Peter.
Hartley the Hare looked like something out of Bad Taxidermy. He was a repulsive little bugger.

madameweasel · 04/10/2017 18:21

I loved Pipkins! I was obviously a weird child as I really liked Hartley the hare. Potty Time was great too.

enterthedragon · 04/10/2017 18:25

I remember all of those mentioned above, absolutely loved Mary Mungo and Midge, Hectors house and the woodentops.
Other favorites were Skippy, Lassie and there was another programme about a dolphin.

Does anyone remember Joe 90 or Marine Boy?

Fekko · 04/10/2017 18:25

I remember when Hartley and Peeeeeg fed a plant chips and custard, and when Harley made Bertha cry by singing a nasty song about her.

Hartley was a fleabitten old puppet that gave me the creeps. 'Pipkins, the help people... can I heeeeeeeeelp you?'

Fekko · 04/10/2017 18:27

Crystal Tipps and Alastair? Chorlton and the wheelies, Jamie and the magic torch, the clangers... the (shudder) Flumps!

The 70s kids tv departments were all on drugs, I swear!

FrLukeDuke · 04/10/2017 18:28

I remember when the pig in Pipkins stuck sticker spots on his face to pretend he was ill. Then he had soup and the steam made the stickers fall off.

Fekko · 04/10/2017 18:29

They were little buggers weren't they?

DaisyDrip · 04/10/2017 18:31

enterthedragon The dolphin was Flipper and yeah Joe 90 Grin
