Chocolate croissant-gate

runningtostandstill · 03/10/2017 16:04

I went to a bakery this morning to buy a chocolate croissant for my son, ahead of me was a mum and a little boy (6ish). He was messing about a bit and taking ages saying what he wanted so she waved me in front so I didn't have to wait.

I then asked for a chocolate croissant - the last one on the shelf - and the mum said 'oh you can't have that, what if my son decides he wants it'. What would you have said/done?

Raised an eyebrow at her and walked off with the croissant. (and possibly had a quick look to see if there was only 1 left of anything else and bought that too).

Do you mean a pain au chocolat or an actual croissant filled with chocolate? I'm sorry shark but that does come across as awfully 'oh what's a chocolate croissant, surely you mean a pain au chocolat. Look at me speaking French and being sooo sophisticated'. Does it matter? Could have been an iced bun and the OP is the same. Grin

RhiannonOHara · 03/10/2017 16:19

Smiled vaguely and looked expectantly at the bakery server, proffering my cash for my croissant.

Silly mare.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 03/10/2017 16:19

Sharklovers I'm not sure you're focussing on the right bit of the story there Grin

OP I'd have asked the child if he wanted the croissant, if he said no or if he wasn't sure then I would have bought it. His mother was taking the piss though!

sharklovers · 03/10/2017 16:20

A actual croissant filled with chocolate ganache

Nice! I thought some idiot was referring to a pain au chocolat!

BalloonSlayer · 03/10/2017 16:21

"Well we could buy anything your son might decide he wants. Why on Earth did you wave us ahead of you if you are going to tell us we can't buy anything in case it turns out he wants it?" and give her your best You Are Utterly Insane look.

mindutopia · 03/10/2017 16:22

Ha, I would have laughed! No, really I would have said well, that's unfortunately, maybe next time. I can't even imagine someone actually saying that out loud.

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/10/2017 16:22

I'd have bought it and then stuffed it in my mouth in front of the kid, tbf, I don't like kids, especially whiney ones and their entitled parents.

MadMags · 03/10/2017 16:23

Aw poor sharks wanting to be snarky with the "idiot referring to a pain au chocolat"!

I'd have bought it anyway, OP.

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 03/10/2017 16:23

@MrsTerryPratchett Shark thought it wasn't a real thing at wanted to point out the OP is an idiot. Turns out that was not the case.

viques · 03/10/2017 16:23

if there were almond croissants, pain aux raisins or apricot Danishes left who would want chocolate croissants, or pain aux chocolat anyway. Oh, sometimes the ways of the world are beyond my comprehension........

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 03/10/2017 16:24

What’s a chocolate croissant?
Really Hmm

It's pretty self explanatory. Unless you want to question it so you can come across as all condescending and say 'I think you'll find it's actually a pain au chocolat'

Fekko · 03/10/2017 16:24

I had a croissant sliced and jammed with melted chocolate once. It was very sickly sweet (I still ate it though).

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 03/10/2017 16:25

Damn X-post with everyone Grin

koalab · 03/10/2017 16:26

Almond croissants are by far the best. I also prefer a pain au chocolat to a chocolate croissant but I don't really know why.

cjt110 · 03/10/2017 16:28

unningtostandstill I would have laughed, ignored her and carried on with my day.

Fekko · 03/10/2017 16:28

Unless they have too much of that really sweet almond paste. Or additional custard (boak).

BewareOfDragons · 03/10/2017 16:28

I would have ignored her. If her 'edict' was repeated, I would have said , "Then he should have picked it. He didn't. I did."

Amazing sense of entitlement!

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/10/2017 16:28

Surely you mean 'croissant aux amandes' you utter pleb. Grin

FizzyGreenWater · 03/10/2017 16:28

When baker pointed out the tray, you should have said 'Oh shame. I always enjoy the last one MORE' and given her a crazy SMILE.

catkind · 03/10/2017 16:29

OT but I hate ordering pain au chocolat. If I say it in a french accent no-one understands what I mean (perhaps it's my accent). I can't work out how to pronounce it in an English accent. And I'm never quite sure I'll get the right thing if I say chocolate croissant - the ones in PP's picture are vile and sugary.

Fekko · 03/10/2017 16:29

Wanna thae wee choccy buns?

I know my DM once wanted to buy I think a loaf of bread, and the shopkeeper wouldn't sell it to her because, "What if somebody else wants it?"

And as any fule noes, it is a croissant au chocolat you plebian bastards. I expect you say French Stick as well.

scampimom · 03/10/2017 16:31

Oh, ha x-posted with MrsTerry
