They've just put out a new mum video, showing lots of successful instagrammers and their children head to toe in Boden.

However, these IG people and children are rarely dressed in Boden, if ever.

But just because they've got a lot of followers Boden hand it all out to people who don't actually treasure the brand.

There are 100s of dedicated Boden mums who treasure every piece of Boden, why can't Boden ever reward their loyal customers rather than give it out to people who don't even buy it.

I know a lot of people are outraged about this. When I look at IG I search the #bodenbyme and always see lots of normal families without 300k followers dressing their littlies in Boden. It's a shame that brand lovers never are appreciated when they are what keep the business going, if I was Johnnie I'd be getting hold of these families and working together to promote real Boden loving Mums and not just people who are in it for the cash or freebies.

Because it’s pre compiled as it fits in with the image they want, not even taking into account their following which will generate sales. It’s not just about the photos more followers= more sales so bodenmummy1 has 25 followers, ok she gets out on Bodens account, she posts it in her account it’s likely none of her 25 followers will buy it they’ll just get “ ooh exciting” messages InstaMummy212 with 50k followers Boden have made their money back plus more. If “ fun” worked they would market it that way, they wouldn’t leave money on the table

ColinTheDachshund · 03/10/2017 00:08

Labradoodle?Hmmjust do an image search of 'boden dachshund' and you'll see what the ideal model is.

paxillin · 03/10/2017 00:13

Well... I'd want to see some cash to wear a Boden dachshund top on Instamum

To think Boden have made a huge mistake.
CatsOclock · 03/10/2017 00:19

I don't understand any of this.
I have never bought any Boden and I don't know anyone who has.
Is it a thing now?
I think of it as clothes for uptight people with more money than sense. Am I wrong?

paxillin · 03/10/2017 00:27

Just looked at the "wear it like a mum" stuff. Wear it like a mum is impossibly twee and patronising, but the featured mums are quite mum-like, if in a studio. They even talk about being covered in puke and not being mumsy. Should work a treat with the target audience.

takeiteasybuttakeit · 03/10/2017 00:29

I used to quite like some of the boys' stuff but last time I bought anything from Boden was just after the Brexit vote (I was very much a remainer) and all the copy on the bumpf that came with the clothes just went on and on and on about Britain and British style and British values and made me feel a bit ill. I returned the clothes, got a refund and now see Boden as smug, nationalistic and uptight. OP don't worry, you don't need them. They're not your friends

LellyMcKelly · 03/10/2017 00:42

Woman, you are way overinvested in a clothes shop. If you don't like the advertising that much pop over to other frumpy mum shops like p Joules or White Stuff. I'm sure you can find an equally unflattering smock top there.

Glastokitty · 03/10/2017 00:45

This must be a wind up. I mean who actually gives a fuck about stuff like this, right?

NearLifeExperience · 03/10/2017 00:56

I picked up 2 Boden skirts at a jumble sale on Saturday. 50p each!

I can sell them on ebay for about £15.

Slightly irrelevant, sorry.

LellyMcKelly · 03/10/2017 00:56

Get yourself down to Zara, Gap, and Jigsaw. Being a mum doesn't mean you have to look like you've been living on a farm.

IMissSmashHits · 03/10/2017 00:58

I have no problems with advertising but a fair opportunity for all would be nice to see

^
But why? It's not the school nativity play or Blue Peter. That isn't the way advertising works. It isn't the way business works. In the same way that if you can't afford it, you don't get to buy it - if you're not the type of person/business they want to do a two way deal with - why should they. How would it be fair to Boden to supply some no marks with a load of free shit because you're jealous of Instagrammers?

Bloggers and social media influencers are very powerful - that's why companies work with them. Yes the blogger/instagrammer gets an outfit and £5k (or whatever) but Boden are then exposing their outfits to XYZInstamum's followers and gaining access to a VERY targeted niche market. Sure the instamum "gets" to be in the Boden catalogue or whatever - however Boden get so, so much more out of the deal than the instamum. It's two way exposure.
They get bugger all from Julie in Surbiton wearing a floral wrap dress to St Maud's CofE Primary and sticking her mug in the catalogue.

If I read a food blog and someone was sharing Tesco sausages I might buy them because someone who I follow - because they are someone I perceive to be on my wavelength - likes them. I wouldn't buy them because Tom, dad of 3 and complete random man I'd never heard of said he liked them in the Tesco email.

The formula for advertising that they are using is one that works. The one you are suggesting will not work and politely over investment in brands is extremely unhealthy.
I knew a woman like you who was obsessed with Cath Kidston. Fuck me if she didn't treasure every scrap of twee, pastel shit they sold. She was deluded that it was some how the best of the best and she was part of some cool tribe. In the end her husband got out of the car on an M62 slip road because she wanted to go to CK on their 10th wedding anniversary and he couldn't take it anymore.

Persemillion · 03/10/2017 00:58

Perhaps a readers wives' edition of the catalogue with 'ordinary' mums indulging themselves in stately home boot rooms?

Very well put, and something people tend to forget or don't even register in the first place! Grin
As for the meme - love it. Big mistake, big. HUGE. Well, I have to go shopping now!" lol

OP, this seems to be very close to what you're wanting:

I was rather downhearted earlier as couldn't find a thread to distract me from my godawful back pain. It appears that I have struck gold with this- this is just the sort of entertainment I needed. Good job, OP!

Peaceonearthplease · 03/10/2017 03:27

Treasure Boden? Seriously? 😂

EddChinasVagina · 03/10/2017 03:48

I have to say I was a oblivious to Boden but just had a look their most popular carpets look like my nana old carpet designs which probably weren’t changed from the 70s and either some of the models have some very long arms and weird shoulders or the photoshopping skills are awful...I actually find it more hilarious having seen it now

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 03/10/2017 05:45

£110 for this monstrosity.

To think Boden have made a huge mistake.
