Crushed velvet sofas/beds/curtains.

Also wooden letters in the kitchen/bathroom that's say 'Cook'/'Bath' etc telling you what each room is for.

While I'm at it- wall 'art' (stickers) with cheesy phrases.

Gunteer I love that house too, very spacious and can easily be repainted if colours aren't to your taste. The price obviously reflects the school area too (Ecclesbourne is excellent ). Belper is a lovely village and the local high school is also excellent.

Gunteer · 02/10/2017 16:13

Personally I found the interior photos disappointing.

Mumsnet bingo with the all the grey, including grey crushed velvet sofa. Canvas photos. Beige. Letter ornaments. Ikea furniture. Large pattern feature wall. Seaside theme in bathroom.

Personal pet hate is the elevating TV built into bed.

Where are the books?

The exterior photos look lovely though.

metalmum15 · 02/10/2017 16:30

No, I didn't see any books either. Definitely not my house then!

GoGoGazelle · 02/10/2017 16:33

But they'd take the sofa, photos, letter ornaments, furniture and seaside tat with them. Then you could fill it with things you like. The actual house is a good one.

Blush pagwatch sorry.

Surfer I think it's less argos or cheaper shop stuff than just no interest in decor.. Sort of buying the look of the moment wholesale. I personally am not keen on John Lewis look at all, infact I think there is nicer older so called Brown furniture around as it's gone out of fashion ie more true antique pieces. Re fence. A beautiful flower in my view is set off by various paint colors but not that brown.. It sucks light and everything.

Bornfreebutinbiscuits · 02/10/2017 16:48

Sorry older stuff around in charity shops and the like because it's out of fashion

LightastheBreeze · 02/10/2017 16:51

I sometime wish for a few less books, DH has 2 large bookcases he insists on having in the front room and he insists on filling each shelf to the brim by laying books on top of books, it always reminds me of a second hand book shop.

Next sale usually has a good supply of twiggy crap and things with words on and with Christmas coming there will be a huge choice of this sort of seasonal stuff.

Uptheduffy · 02/10/2017 17:25

Our estate agent was asked what we could do to make our sitting room more marketable. We were told to take the bookshelves out.

stardust18 · 02/10/2017 17:26

All open plan for me,I don't want to hear the washing machine when I'm watching TV or my sofa to smell of whatever we've had for dinner.
Also the big wall stickers hate them

ProtectandSurvive · 02/10/2017 17:33

No. You are not. Just like I'm not being unreasonable when I don't use Mumsnet acronyms. You have your home as you want. And feel free to dislike other style choices.

monty1212 · 02/10/2017 17:39

I cant stand any letter art "love", "home" "in this family", or wall art which spells out some other bullsxxx such honesty, pride, blah blah blah. Twig hearts and any hearts also fall into this category. You cant fool me witg such marketing. :)

lizizdd · 02/10/2017 17:42

Well I like wall stickers and quotes in pictures. They've been chosen because they mean something to our family and some my children have bought me. And I'd never in a million years get rid of those or not display them. Above my bed on my side is the framed lyrics to The One by Shania Twain given to me by my husband and on his side is the framed lyrics to They Don't Know by Kirsty McColl from me. The words mean so much to us, so who has the right to decree it common and tacky? Don't like velvet much though!😀

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 02/10/2017 17:46

"UptheDuffy* "Our estate agent was asked what we could do to make our sitting room more marketable. We were told to take the bookshelves out."

I hope you changed estate agents.

When we moved in to our house, the boys bedroom had a 'live, laugh, love' wall sticker, my oh gagged every time he walked past it.

Runningyogabooze · 02/10/2017 17:48

Yes the words in rooms DO MY HEAD IN.

HOME was in the kitchen at my friend's house. I absolutely hated it and it made me think less of her. What was the POINT?

Along the same lines, posters saying 'Live, laugh, love' etc.

Haven't read the thread yet but looking forward to this one.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 02/10/2017 17:48

YANBU

Glitter. Fucking glitter everywhere and on everything. Crushed velvet is grim indeed. Cheesy slogans about family on walls, Broken mirrors/cds on anything. Stairs with bits of carpet glued on with words painted on the backboards , often Disney or an attempt to look like it.

ohh · 02/10/2017 17:51

Agree and to open plan. Yes it makes rooms look bigger but it's just eye trick. Stick a wall in and it would look small. Open plan kitchen annoy me the most. Our dishwasher would deafen the tv!

Steaksauce · 02/10/2017 17:52

I have grey walls in my lounge. And a feature wall in my bedroom (though it's painted not flowery wall paper)
And I have a twig heart in my porch.
And I like it all.

I dislike that obviously not wood pale laminate flooring.
"Family rules" prints/bits of wood (they say things like "love each other" and "laugh a lot")
That fucking quote about learning to dance in the rain.
And the one that people have over their bed that says "always kiss me goodnight" it's just cringe.
And high gloss kitchen units are awful.
And I know someone who has a white bathroom suite (the bath, shower tray and sink) but the toilet is black - why?!
I don't like corner baths, so 80s
And those modern fires that look like I really low down tiny tv.

bmbonanza · 02/10/2017 17:54

I hate all the grey which is 'in' at the moment - its like living in a rain cloud, and the grey windows and doors look like prison issue

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 02/10/2017 17:54

And those modern fires that look like I really low down tiny tv

Agreed. They are rank.

Steaksauce · 02/10/2017 17:55

MIL bought me a vase that's all bits of broken mirror. I don't like it - the bottom cracked so I have a legitimate reason to never use it.

I don't get people to have a large ampersand (&) as an ornament. But I have a giant yellow pear so what do I know?

GiGi67 · 02/10/2017 17:57

Its "feature" walls for me. I can't handle 3 plain walls then one big random splodge of colour or pattern. TVs stuck on the middle of a wall really throw me off too Confused

Katherine2626 · 02/10/2017 17:57

I hate open plan too - the programmes that always include the presenter thumping a wall and bellowing 'Knock that right through and open the whole area up.' Noooooo! What's wrong with having separate rooms? I don't want to live in an airport lounge with acres of hard floor. Another trend seems to be with the presenter suggesting 'Take out those wardrobes and then see what a lovely big bedroom this is.' And then what? Throw your clothes on the floor? There are shops dedicated now to twee signs, dangling wicker hearts, canvas sunset pics.... oh dear!
