This has probably been done a million times but I'm curious.

Would also like to know your reasons why.

Everyone says I'm both in the wrong era. Sounds so clique but I love Bowie and Dylan hense my username

@maddiemookins16mum yes, me too. Prefab Sprout - glorious. Paddy McAloon is a genius

Bob Dylan
Ella Fitzgerald
Nirvana
Nick Drake
Nina Simone
Sandy Denny
Belle & Sebastian
The Proclaimers
Camera Obscura

I'm sure there's a pattern there somewhere

Changingoftheguard · 01/10/2017 15:03

FindTheLightSwitchDarren I totally agree with you about Dylan! I dont believe we will ever get someone on his level again, he's ridiculously talented

Sooooooooooooooooooooo · 01/10/2017 15:34

Radiohead. I love them. The Bends and OK Computer are pure magic.

noeffingidea · 01/10/2017 15:36

Child of the 60's and 70's here.
David Bowie is and always will be my favourite. After him it's Lou Reed, Donna Summer, George Michael, Trex, etc.

noeffingidea · 01/10/2017 15:42

Sorry, forgot reasons.
Bowie - grew up with him, his songs are meaningful to me, but most of all I just love his voice.
Lou Reed - follows on from David Bowie
Donna Summer. You had to be there in the 70's. Love her energy and spirit
George Michael - just an amazing singer
Trex - Marc Bolan, innit. My first crush.

3catsandcounting · 01/10/2017 15:47

The Smiths
Stone Roses
Echo & the Bunnymen
The Verve
Pet Shop Boys
The Cure
Human League
Erasure

and more recently :
The Courteeners,
and by far and away:
The 1975 (scooby - your post made me laugh out loud!)

noeffingidea · 01/10/2017 15:53

Forgot to add Roxy music. So cool.
Also partial to the odd bit of Iggy pop, he's really connected to David Bowie. Their work kind of overlaps.

Fishandthechips · 01/10/2017 16:07

I love seeing what music other people listen to and getting ideas for future play lists!
My favourites are;
The gaslight anthem/ anything Brian Fallon does
Frank Turner
Chuck Ragan

Rumplestaleskin · 01/10/2017 16:30

The Beatles
The Clash
David Bowie
Lou Reed
The Stone Roses
Janis Joplin
The Specials

I've got loads more favourites but I've listened to these artists consistently since childhoods/my teens.

Thumbs up to the person who said 'Revolver' is the best Beatles album.

rugbychick1 · 01/10/2017 16:43

Spandau Ballet- my favourites, and not the 3 songs they’re must famous for, but the mix of the early stuff and a lot of the album tracks. They were the first real group I remember being interested in
Also a lot of the 80’s bands
Go West
ABC
Aha
Paul Young
The Housemartins
Adam and the Ants
Wham/George Michael
Deacon Blue
INXS
Can’t really explain why, but listening to the above cheers me up

Also Savage Garden for the lyrics

StoatPatronus · 01/10/2017 16:44

Favourite band: Can.
Favourite artist: Billie Holiday

StoatPatronus · 01/10/2017 16:45

I'm 50 years old btw

insancerre · 01/10/2017 16:56

Teutonic
The Clash and Skrewdriver?!
Totally different ends of the political spectrum there

Blondie till the day I die. Love loads of other bands too but they’re my true love.

slippermaiden · 01/10/2017 17:24

The Cure, The Smiths, Foo fighters, but then mix it up with a bit of Ice Ice Baby!

maddiemookins16mum · 01/10/2017 17:35

Oh yes, Paul Young, loved him in the 80's.
Also loved a Canadian band called Glass Tiger.

PomonaPalace · 01/10/2017 17:41

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and his first proper bands. The Birthday Party are my favourite band of all time.
Interpol
Fat White Family
Moonlandingz
Susanne Sundfor

I go to a lot of local gigs and have discovered the middle aged punk scene which is wonderful.

LivingInMidnight · 01/10/2017 17:47

Van Hunt, Amel Larrieux, Natalie Duncan, Jamie Woon, The Internet, Thundercat, Kaytranada, Little Dragon, Yuna

EsmeWeatherwax · 01/10/2017 17:56

Type O Negative
Chris Cornell
Rammstein
Faith No More
Ministry
Whitesnake
Nine Inch Nails
Robert Plant
Sisters of Mercy
Mark Lanegan/Screaming Trees
Nightwish

All favourites because I can pretty much fling them on at any time and love listening to them. Chris Cornell was just the most talented singer/songwriter ever. I was broken when he died. Not least because my father died about a week or so before, and I was self medicating with Chris Cornell songs.

FloControl · 01/10/2017 18:02

Apart from the acts I've mentioned, I also like different acts from specific genres such as Jazz, Blues and Northern Soul. Radio 2 and Radio Leeds are good places to hear these sorts of music, although Jamie Cullum often baffles me with his ideas of Jazz records !

Clandestino · 01/10/2017 18:08

System of a Down, love, their music and lyrics and that they are politically involved for great ideas.
Eminem, Alice in Chains, Faith No More come next.

YouCanButImNot · 01/10/2017 18:08

Biffy clyro, can't believe they haven't been mentioned yet. I've seen them a few times and they are phenomenal live.

Foo fighters are another firm favourite, loved them for years and my most prized possession is Taylor's drumstick which I caught at the end of a show when I was 17.

Red hot chili peppers also, however, I didn't really enjoy their last album. I had hard to concentrate in my wedding ceremony.

Others include:

Queens of the Stone Age - josh homme is reading the CBeebies bedtime story this Friday and I'm very excited!

Butch walker and the black widows
Kings of Leon
Nothing but thieves
30 seconds to mars

I love music!
