This has probably been done a million times but I'm curious.

Would also like to know your reasons why.

Everyone says I'm both in the wrong era. Sounds so clique but I love Bowie and Dylan hense my username

The Libertines.

rizlett · 01/10/2017 08:42

Anathema - especially their Weather Systems album and particularly Dreaming Light from We're Here Because We're Here - the youtube video always makes me cry.

Escondido - Black Roses. V cool.

Fruitcocktail6 · 01/10/2017 08:49

Pink floyd for me too, also roger waters solo stuff. I just love his voice, it has so much passion.

Giggorata · 01/10/2017 09:04

I'm sticking to bands, as my list is already waaay too long....
The Beatles, for all the reason Yoko said. They did change everything. Innovative, eclectic and left an incredible legacy.
Pink Floyd, perfect music, intelligent, thoughtful and sometimes poignant lyrics, simply (one of) the best
Led Zeppelin, rock gods with amazing lead singer
The Nice, precursor to ELP, classically influenced, virtuoso keyboard.
Free, bluesy rock with great singer,
Steeleye Span, perfect voices and harmonies.
Muse, great musicians, wonderful lead singer
R.E.M. Ditto
Queen Ditto
Dead Can Dance, original and the most incredible female lead
Chieftains, kings of folk
Gogol Bordello, gypsy punk, best showmen
Levellers, agree about that violin
Tornado Rider, energy, humour and lead electric cello

MrsFring · 01/10/2017 11:57

Beck.

Odelay and Sea Change; extraordinary that one guy could produce such radically different yet awesome albums.

Changingoftheguard · 01/10/2017 12:10

So many that didn't cross my mind but are actually amazing!

Think it shows that it's really hard to just pick one. Good thing we don't have to Grin

Radiohead
Thom Yorkes voice makes me go all weird

Sisters of Mercy
The best not goth band ever

The Cure
Love Robert Smith

Placebo
Brian Molko is ace

The Smiths
Loved them the first time I heard them as a teenager in the early 80s

I am lucky that I have seen them all live

PeanutButterIsEverything · 01/10/2017 12:30

Currently Elbow can do no wrong in my eyes (or should that be ears!)

Listen to 'Magnificent' for a really uplifting gorgeously melodic tune.

DollyLlama · 01/10/2017 12:31

Placebo. Their music is incredible.

Moanyoldcow · 01/10/2017 12:35

The Smiths, The Cranberries, Marvin Gaye.

The Smiths and Cramberries for the lyrics and sound, Marvin Gaye for the memories.

treeofhearts · 01/10/2017 12:37

I love Gilbert O'Sullivan. I used to fall asleep to a tape of his music as a child and find his voice very soothing.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 01/10/2017 12:38

Simon and Garfunkle. If they ever toured again, I would literally give my right arm to see them.

Their music has been a constant throughout my life.

Madonna - cos she is just the QUEEN

Gaga - her voice is amazing and I think she will be around for a very long time.

Queen - the words to Radio Gaga are such an insight.

Erasure - fucking brilliant. The lyrics they get into their songs are just beautiful and just shouldn't sound right in catchy pop tunes, but work perfectly.

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 01/10/2017 12:40

Radiohead - intelligent content, great vocals, innovative music, excellent live, THE BENDS.

Revenant · 01/10/2017 13:03

Nina Simone
Scott Walker
Al Green
Billie Holiday
Bert Jansch
Miles Davis
Bob Dylan
Bruce Springsteen

Revenant · 01/10/2017 13:04

And loving Steeleye Span along with @Giggorata

jaimebravo · 01/10/2017 13:07

The Pixies
The Smiths
The Divine Comedy.
I don’t really like much music that is around at the moment on the radio apart from Vampire Weekend or Queens of the stone age.
Maybe I am too old for radio music(bbc 6 is the only one i listen too now).

Theresnonamesleft · 01/10/2017 13:14

  1. Bob Dylan (he is a genius. Much more than a musician imo and nobody else compares - realise I sound like a weirdo Grin)
  2. Loads of bands I love, but here are a few; Radiohead, Bright Eyes, Led Zepellin, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Queens of the Stoneage, Muse.

maddiemookins16mum · 01/10/2017 13:21

I also meant to add Prefab Sprout to my list.

Chocolatear · 01/10/2017 13:28

Bowie and the Clash. Both make me smile.
Also Patti Smith. Love her music and her attitude.
