This has probably been done a million times but I'm curious.

Would also like to know your reasons why.

Everyone says I'm both in the wrong era. Sounds so clique but I love Bowie and Dylan hense my username

Urban rock, I used to love Barenaked Ladies! I haven't listened to them in a long time... [cues up plsylist...]

Littlebatcalledlucille · 30/09/2017 22:31

Jamiroqui Smile

DrunkOnEther · 30/09/2017 22:32

Ooh, Sigur Ros, yes!

I'll add in Alcest too. Awesome chill out blackgaze.

Plus I've a really fond memory of my six year old DS saying he wanted to stay up late, light some candles, and cuddle up on the sofa with me to listen to 'that weird relaxing French music'.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 30/09/2017 22:34

Good list DJBaggy Grin I love a bit of Buttholes and "if you see your mom this weekend be sure and tell her... "

I also love many bands. Loved Fairport Convention when I was a toddler, like a bit of Leonard Cohen. Thanks to my folky folks.

Was a dedicated indie kid loved That Petrol Emotion, Cud, PJ Harvey, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, Happy Mondays, Moonshake, Arab Strap and Nick Cave (still the best live artist ever with the Bad Seeds of course).

Also like a bit of electronica so Air, Daft Punk and the like

I love Cate Le Bon

Sonic Youth, Pavement, Jesus lizard,The Brian Jonestown massacre and Black Moth Super Rainbow

Stevie Wonder when he did Superstition

Oh and The Fall of course.

Can't choose ... Sorry.

Runrig, discovered them at High school nearly 30 years ago. They are amazing live and having met them last year when dd wanted an autograph they are just lovely genuine guys. Seen them play all over the UK as we've moved south and have great memories.

I love singing or at least trying to sing along to one week, it goes so quick I just guess most of the words.

Tom petty and the heartbreakers-free fallin was my adolescent angst song

I have a real thing for men singing and playing acoustic guitar. My favourite is Ben Howard but I don’t really know anyone else who likes him. I also love Bon Iver, Noel Gallagher and, yeah why not, a bit of Ed Sheeran

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 22:38

Runrig, not Run Rig

Why does autocorrect always think it knows better!

TheDetectorist · 30/09/2017 22:48

Belle & Sebastian - just such a feel good, sing-a-long-able band. Amazing live & fabulous storytellers.

Blur - for being my 'takes me back to my youth' band.

Those would be my top two that I don't listen to all that often but oh they make me so happy when I do.

My other favourites would be (in no particular order)...

Nick Cave (love pp who said about him & b&s outlooks being so different but they're both amazing)
Beth Orton
Buddy Holly
Taylor Swift
Ryan Adams
Janelle Monae
Fleetwood Mac

The mighty Fall! How could I forget them- Totally Wired!

BalloonDinosaur · 30/09/2017 22:51

Most of mine have already been mentioned,

Queen, my mum was a huge fan when I was a kid and we grew up knowing the music so well.
Freddie was, IMO, one of the greatest frontmen/singers/artists of all time. Such a loss

The Levellers. My friend's dad took us to their shows when we were young, love a bit of folk and the violin really adds something special for me.

Ben Folds (and Ben Folds Five) introduced by the same friend.

P!nk. She's an incredible artist, i find her hugely inspiring, love her voice and so much fun to sing along to. Also one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

Frank Turner. I met some great friends through his forum/going to his shows at a particularly difficult time in my life, they really helped to pull me through.

For a while we travelled round the country to various different gigs (not just FT) and had the best time. Love his songs, and spent a few evenings at aftershow parties and drinking with the crew a couple of years back. I also have a tattoo of some of his lyrics Blush

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 22:53

autocorect is the Bain of my life.

The more I'm reading these posts the more I'm seeing how much amazing music is out there. I moan that music now isn't for me but should really give it more chance.

I bet ya still can't beat the oldies though

For quieter moments...a bit of Dolly or Dusty.

FloControl · 30/09/2017 22:57

Belle And Sebastian. I'd forgotten all about them. A colleague introduced me to their music way back in 1998. Happier times.

Disinterested · 30/09/2017 23:00

Fleetwood Mac

I came on here to say Frank Turner. Fantastic live, just makes me want to dance, & his lyrics are fantastic. Many others too, I love female vocalists, love Bowie, love early U2, the Killers, and, and, and.. But mainly Frank Turner. If you haven't heard of him, listen now!

NashvilleQueen · 30/09/2017 23:06

Pogues

Foo Fighters rather obviously! Their videos in the 90s hooked me in, and been a fan ever since (although not overly keen on their latest stuff it hugely pains me to say Sad)

Texas - ever since I saw them perform on TOTP for their first single 28 years ago. FINALLY got to see them live this week Grin so bloody happy. I'm still bouncing.

Electric Light Orchestra - an ex was a mad lifelong fan and got me into them, rarely heard a bad track from them. Ideal car music.

Very varied taste in music I have!

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 23:12

I saw Shane macgowan live a few years back, he was absolutely wasted.

The dirty old town is ridiculously good and I love the fact it was written by Kirsty maccolls dad.
