This has probably been done a million times but I'm curious.

Would also like to know your reasons why.

Everyone says I'm both in the wrong era. Sounds so clique but I love Bowie and Dylan hense my username

Erasure 😍

BarbaraOcumbungles · 30/09/2017 22:16

Paul Simon or Queen.

kimmy121 · 30/09/2017 22:16

And The Presets!

stitchglitched · 30/09/2017 22:17

Yay Kimmy, someone else said Erasure too!

IhaveapenIhavepineapple · 30/09/2017 22:18

Placebo and IAMX. Can't really explain why, I just love them.

DJBaggySmalls · 30/09/2017 22:19

Cocteau Twins
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Sisters of Mercy
Marilyn Manson
Ministry
Killing Joke
Gary Numan
Butthole Surfers

Sorry I couldn't pick just one...

CorSie · 30/09/2017 22:20

Changingoftheguard I genuinely didn't know Charles Manson had any music. Just listened to that song you mentioned and as much as I hate to say it, it was pretty good lol

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 22:20

Agree with placebo! Special needs is so moving and I love singing Nancy boy at the top of my lungs.

Erasure Wink I love 80s madonna but really don't like her later stuff.

Ccr, the band.

Ahh nostalgia

The National
Bon Iver
I'm old so lots of other bands/artists too but over the last few years they're my favourites

Mrsjohnmurphy · 30/09/2017 22:22

Love placebo too mummy2, brian is my longest crush. I find mucho meaning in his lyrics too lately, you know your life has taken an odd turn when you fully udentify with placebo lyrics.

Numero uno is Charles Thomson aka frank black aka black francis, and of course the pixies. Highlight of last year becoming fb with him 😂

Favourite voice though has to be skin from skunk anansie, yet to see them live, must be rectified.

babybythesea · 30/09/2017 22:22

Sarah McLachlan. Canadian singer/songwriter.

Also love loads mentioned here.
Simon and Garfunkel.
Everly Brothers.
Springsteen.
Bon Jovi.
Bryan Adams.
Buddy Holly.
Billy Joel.

I'm a bit of a rock chick and it doesn't matter whether it's from the fifties or now. But Sarah Mclachlan is my absolute favourite and she definitely isn't rock. Go figure!

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 22:22

CorSie he almost had a part in the beech boys, someone mentioned them and it made me remember.

There's a couple of interviews floating about where they were asked about him and instantly shut it down

AC-DC.
Black Keys.
Queen.

Love trashy rock, black keys are more bluesy though - I like that whole twangy sound.

InigoTaran · 30/09/2017 22:24

Prince. Great songs, voice, musical ability. And sexy as hell!

Even a bad Prince song has more originality, sparkle and interest than most of what's in the charts these days....

Mrsjohnmurphy · 30/09/2017 22:24

Placebo's 2003 gig on youtube in paris, with frank black coming on at the end to sing where is my mind together is my pure happy place.

Watching that gig has got me through some tough times, sadly only robert smith came on at the end of one of the gigs I went to Grin

Littlebatcalledlucille · 30/09/2017 22:25

CorSie Do! She's done loads since like a feather! Rock/funky stuff!

NotAnotherCuppa · 30/09/2017 22:25

I listen to lots of music! My new fave is Calle 13, a Puerto Rican rap duo. They are amazing.

Also Janelle Monae for storytelling and sheer beauty, Stormzy and Knaan for being wonderful rappers (again storytelling) and Emile Sande for clarity and beauty.

I've also always loved the Divine Comedy and that kind of vibe.

I think I'd go for 'Under Pressure' as the most perfect pop song ever written.

:)

babyinthacorner · 30/09/2017 22:25

This is a hard question for me. I struggle to find my favourite anything, because I love so many different things!

The Prodigy were a huge part of my childhood, and their music still gets me really excited like I'm hearing it for the first time if I've not listened to them for a while. I finally got to see them live a couple of years ago, and it was hands down the best gig I've ever been to. DH bad I were stone cold sober and came out bouncing. Literally.

Love The Killers as they're one of the bands my DH and I both feel exactly the same way about, and they kind of track our relationship. We both love and hate them, iyswim?!

Recently I've discovered Nothing But Thieves and I love them for their diversity. Each song sounds different and some are really cleverly written and produced. Had a great moment the other day when my 4 year old daughter and I moshed around the living room to Amsterdam and she can't stop singing Sorry... beautiful!

MrsFring · 30/09/2017 22:25

Sigur Ros. They sing in Icelandic, have a sound unlike anyone else and yet can fill stadia all over the world. Jonsi's voice is utterly angelic.

merkava · 30/09/2017 22:25

Type O Negative.

NotAnotherCuppa · 30/09/2017 22:27

MrsFrig yes to Sigur Ros! Utterly gorgeous.

RJnomore1 · 30/09/2017 22:29

Oh gosh so many but after great deliberation

Nick Cave
Belle and Sebastian

Opposites in outlook!

And Justin Currie/del amitri. Hugely underrated.

skankingpiglet · 30/09/2017 22:30

NOFX. They formed the year I was born (1983), but their new music is still good and they've kept their energy. It's very well crafted. They put on a good live show too.
I love most punk and ska, and particularly their crossovers. Also love a bit of old school DnB Grin

To the above mentioned bands YY to Iron Maiden and Placebo. Both Bruce and Brian's voices are something special.

urbanrock · 30/09/2017 22:30

Can't believe no-ones said muse yet. The intro to plug in baby is just out of this world.

Also barenaked ladies. Just cos they're fun and amazing live. Have seen then half a dozen times and they never disappoint.

FutureDays · 30/09/2017 22:31

Levellers
Pearl jam
Rage against the machine
U2 (everything up to how to dismantle an atomic bomb, everything after is a bit meh in my opinion)
Gentlemen's dub club
Manic street preachers
Morcheba
Catalonia
Royal blood
