This has probably been done a million times but I'm curious.

Would also like to know your reasons why.

Everyone says I'm both in the wrong era. Sounds so clique but I love Bowie and Dylan hense my username

Yes yes to Springsteen and billy Joel! I'm on fire and further on up the road (but the slower version) were my go to music when i was sitting on the greyhound going from Ny to Philli back in my youth, ahhh.

Green Day. Great lyrics, great sound and simply amazing live shows.

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 21:45

I'm going to listen to some of the artists named on here as some I've never heard of.

Love hearing about people's tastes in music

I love Lynyrd Skynyrd, Meatloaf, Guns N’ Roses and Foo Fighters!
I just love their music!

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 30/09/2017 21:48

The Smiths/Morrissey.

I had never heard anything by them/him until I was 18 and at The Reading Festival. I ended up separated from my friends and alone in the crowd watching Morrissey open with How Soon is Now and it made me cry. Everything about it was amazing: the lyrics ("I am the son and the heir/ Of nothing in particular") his voice and his stage presence. He was on the tour for his big 2004 comeback album You Are the Quarry.

It blew my mind that I'd been alive for almost two decades and didn't know Moz was out there, existing, and understanding everything. His lyrics are like no one else's. He just gets it.

Since then I've seen him live over fifty times, listened to his music almost every single day. The Smiths were the first music I ever played my daughters, Morrissey was played at my wedding.

I couldn't just pick one favourite, his songs all mean something to me, but if you're twisting my arm I'd probably choose The Queen is Dead or Reel Around the Fountain (the lyric "slap me on the patio" always makes me smile sadly) or Some Girls are Bigger than Others but pretty much every song on their first album is a masterpiece and I will always love Everyday is Like Sunday.

He's lovely, I love him and I can't wait for his new album, Low in High School. The first single from it, Spent the Day in Bed is one of the most energetic, angry, funny songs he's come out with in years.

MadisonAvenue · 30/09/2017 21:48

Oh, and Frank Turner too. Another great lyricist who puts on one hell of a live show.

sonlypuppyfat · 30/09/2017 21:49

The Killers , I saw them live and they were awsome

CorSie · 30/09/2017 21:50

littlebatcalleucille omg Nikka Costa! You've just given me a huge flashback! I only ever knew one of her songs, Like A Feather! And I was obsessed with it! I haven't heard it in years. I'm definitely going to be checking out more of her music now you've reminded me of her

KenDoddsDadsDog · 30/09/2017 21:53

The Smiths - beautiful songs
Stone Roses - I listen to the first album all the way through at least once a week .
Both have seen me through good and bad times for years .

BarryTheKestrel · 30/09/2017 21:55

InMe - lyrically, vocally, Dave McPherson is a genius to me. One of the most underrated bands around.
Reuben - another one of the most underrated bands ever. Wish I had seen them before they split.
Linkin park - amazing mix of genres with lasting power.
Fleetwood Mac - grew up with them.

SheilaTakeABow · 30/09/2017 21:57

The Smiths (obviously - see username). I adore Morrissey's voice and his lyrics are so beautiful and so clever. There is a song to suit every mood or occasion. They're the only band where I've seriously considered getting a quote tattooed on my person Blush

LightastheBreeze · 30/09/2017 21:58

My favourites are
Leonard Cohen
Bob Dylan,
Tom Waits,
Nick Cave,
Neil Young

Seen them all live and all brilliant but Leonard is my true favourite, they are all brilliant songwriters though - and probably a little bit similar

nigelsbigface · 30/09/2017 22:00

The charlatans. And more specifically Tim Burgess...the band that have been with me my whole life...
Conversely I also absolutely love Craig David. And I always have. And I'm not ashamed to admit it Grin

SkeletonSkins · 30/09/2017 22:03

Florence and the Machine - not everyone's cup of tea but I absolutely adore her. Her lyrics are just so clever and have pulled me through and helped me understand some seriously dark times. Her voice is amazing too but it's the song writing I adore the most.

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 22:05

Tony the pony... I play that to my brother who's 8 years younger, I d his head in with it 🙈

How could I miss Neil young?! Harvest moon made me buy a harmonica!

OP posts:
ginghambox · 30/09/2017 22:06

The Rolling Stones, the most influential band ever.
The Beach Boys, superb harmonies and songs.
The Eagles, proof you can be off your tits for years and still make great music.
ps. the beatles are shiteGrin

poppythetroll · 30/09/2017 22:09

Jesustap thought you'd like my funny story... today driving along we were talking about DS bumbo seat (it's blue) DD whose 5 goes... that's the same colour as Lady Gaga!!! So I say, oh ok... think about it for a minute then says "What do you mean" DD says it again... I'm still confused so she says "Errr it's blue like Lady Gaga, the big statue, the one in America and near Nannys house" it's then I clicked..... she meant the Statue of Liberty - there's a garden centre near MIL house with a replica in the car park!!!! Sorry to derail the threads but me and DH have been in stitches all afternoon 😂😂😂

Brittbugs80 · 30/09/2017 22:10

Ocean Colour Scene and Elvis Presley.

Have tattoos of both as well.

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 22:11

Man you lot are making me think of so many artists I haven't listened to in ages.

Tom waits ol 55 and when Beth sang hold on in the walking dead :-(

My little one loves it when we play stealing my heart by the stones, she gets proper excited and ging the Beatles are not shite Grin but I know we all have different tastes, that's what makes music so bloody brilliant.

OP posts:
Cocolepew · 30/09/2017 22:11

Prince, everything is so different but perfect. I have a lyric tattoo of my favourite Prince song Sheila Smile
Blondie. Debbie is a goddess.
Neil Diamond, grew up listening to him and Im seeing him next Sunday.

Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Elvis,
Smokey Robinson, Mavis Staples for the voices.

Changingoftheguard · 30/09/2017 22:13

Has anyone ever heard Charles mansons music?

I know I will probably get slated for this but putting aside all the other stuff, his music is really rather decent, look at your game girl

CreamCrackerundertheSettee · 30/09/2017 22:14

mummy2oneandtwo · 30/09/2017 22:15

Placebo for me, Brian Molkos voice gives me goosebumps. Also, Queen, I loved them when I was little, dancing around the house singing along, when everyone else my age was loving the Spice Girls Grin

stitchglitched · 30/09/2017 22:15
