This has probably been done a million times but I'm curious.

Would also like to know your reasons why.

Everyone says I'm both in the wrong era. Sounds so clique but I love Bowie and Dylan hense my username

The kinks, Waterloo sunset almost takes me somewhere when I hear it. I'm not like everybody else but got to admit I only heard that one for the first time about a year ago Blush

U2- I have seen them live quite a few times. I have been a huge fan since I was 12/13. My mum, dad and brother are massive fans too.

REM
PinkFloyd
Placebo
Sia
Crowded House

glenthebattleostrich · 30/09/2017 23:38

Metallica, foos, maiden, guns n roses, disturbed, credence clear water, Dylan, Springsteen. Basically anything old school and with a guitar.

BelafonteRavenclaw · 30/09/2017 23:41

LegArmpits · 30/09/2017 23:42

Another huge Ben Folds fan. Hard to beat really.

Also Eels.

Paul Heaton/Beautiful South (soundtrack of my life too!)
17 Hippies
Extreme
Robbie Williams
Pulp
And randomly, Huey Lewis and the News 😂

zukie I thought no one else would get the Runrig love!

naymechaynger · 01/10/2017 00:09

Had to name change as sooooo identifying!

Shania Twain - amazing, inspiring, seen her live loads of times and met some fantastic people as a result.

Spandau Ballet - teenage me adored them, still love them and saw them live last time round a couple of times. Kind of sad that Tony Hadley is no longer a part of it, but the other guys are amazing. Can’t wait to meet Martin Kemp later this yearGrin

And I love Olly Murs, he is fun, happy, pop. Met him not too long ago and he was gorgeous Blush

NoLoveofMine · 01/10/2017 00:28

WOLF ALICE

NoLoveofMine · 01/10/2017 00:28

I insist you listen to those songs. If you don't like them I will accept it but listen.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

swinkle · 01/10/2017 00:33

The National- saw them live a few days ago and there were fantastic! Their songs are so relatable too, and the music's gorgeous.

Father John Misty - unique and witty and a stunning voice. He's amazing live too.

The Smiths too, The Beatles, Everly Brothers, Simon and Garfunkel, Kate Bush, Buddy Holly... the greats Smile

ta14 · 01/10/2017 00:36

Interpol. Absolutely incredible to see live. Completely agree with other posters who have said Sigur Ros. Swedish house mafia is a guilty pleasure!

BoysofMelody · 01/10/2017 00:51

Michael Jackson. I grew up listening to him and his sad life just made me love him more.

I don't want to sour the tone of the thread, but really? I can understand seperating the body of work from the actions of the person who created them, but to cite that deeply problematic private life as a reason for liking the artist, especially when that person was a prolific child abuser.

FurryTrousers · 01/10/2017 00:52

Loads that have been mentioned here eg The Cure, U2

Overall it used to be Depeche Mode, for a long time. But now Foals are my favourite.

NoLoveofMine · 01/10/2017 00:54

WOLF ALICE. Again.

As the NME say: www.nme.com/reviews/album/wolf-alice-visions-life-review

Best band in Britain? 100 per cent.

Sparklingbrook · 01/10/2017 00:59

Duran Duran. The original and best, the soundtrack to my teenage years. I still have all my photos and memorabilia/scrap books in the loft.

But lately (and controversially on MN) it's Ellie Goulding.

ifuckarses · 01/10/2017 03:12

Manic Street Preachers - I remember seeing them perform Design For Life on Jools Holland's Hootenanny when I was 9 and just being transfixed. I waited 3 months until my 10th birthday to get the album Everything Must Go. As I got older I discovered their back catalogue and learnt all about Richey. Their first 5 albums will always be amongst my all time favourites. Sadly lost a bit of interest in their newer stuff.

The Smiths and Morrissey's solo stuff - Lyrical genius.

David Bowie - Particularly since losing my dad last year, he loved him and Life on Mars was played at his funeral.

Arcade Fire - Seeing then live next year and cannot wait.

YouInTheMoonlight · 01/10/2017 03:33

Roxette
Darren Hayes
Lots of trance artists
Meatloaf
Queen

I just get pulled emotionally to songs, after decades of abuse just get a connection. Wow, that sounds so cheesy...

YouInTheMoonlight · 01/10/2017 03:34

Heh, forgot Evanescence.

MyfanwyMontez · 01/10/2017 03:41

Primal Scream
Psychedelic Furs
The The
Microdisney
Duran Duran
Hall and Oates

Happyhappyveggie · 01/10/2017 03:43

Depeche Mode. I have loved them for 30 years 🖤

IamSerena · 01/10/2017 04:33

Seriously?! No one has mentioned the best band of all time...Oasis 😍

SuperBeagle · 01/10/2017 05:10

Led Zeppelin, no contest.

annandale · 01/10/2017 05:17

Steely Dan. That mix of disappointment, sweetness, detachment and nostalgia - like crack to me. When Walter Becker died a friend posted Turn That Heartbeat Over Again which I hadn't listened to for a while and it said everything.

VileyRose · 01/10/2017 06:57

Pink Floyd
James Taylor (Love him!)
Sia
