Any fruit or vegetables at all? I have a friend who says she never eats any fruit or vegetables at all.

I have never heard of this. I think surely it's very bad for your health. And limiting Hmm

Yes, in the greengrocers (he was with his wife who was buying for herself).

Apparently he has a medical condition which means he can't. I was so gobsmacked I didn't ask questions, might go back to the greengrocers & find out!

I think I'm my friends case she just doesn't like them. It makes me worry. How can someone live off bread, pasta, meat and potato?

my husband has never ate any fruit or veg for as long as i have known him almost 20 years.

elportodelgato · 29/09/2017 13:17

My friends brother did this throughout uni and ended up getting SCURVY

ShowMePotatoSalad · 29/09/2017 13:18

An ex colleague of mine wouldn't touch fruit or vegetables at all. She wouldn't touch a spag bol with onions in. It wasn'ty a case of picking the veg out either - she wouldn't touch a meal if she knew it had veg in. She was on Slimming World but couldn't make most of the recipes because of their fruit/veg content. Hmm

lottieandmia · 29/09/2017 13:18

Yes scurvy is surely one concern 😨

I have a friend who is close. Maybe lettuce in a burger. Occasional lasagne or roast dinner.

trilbydoll · 29/09/2017 13:18

I don't eat much, but there's hidden veg (kind of) in pizza, baked beans, prepacked sandwiches, jam... I think you would have to make a real effort to not eat any at all!

Littlebelina · 29/09/2017 13:21

Yep, a colleague and an ex in-law

JustAnotherUser123456 · 29/09/2017 13:24

My manager told me her friend’s husband does not eat any fruits and vegetables and was diagnosed with scurvy Shock

Witsender · 29/09/2017 13:24

I struggle with veg, always have done. I eat fruit, potatoes, onions, tomatoes...salady stuff. But struggle with true veg.

CMOTDibbler · 29/09/2017 13:27

My nephew. He has basically not eaten anything that wasn't beige since he was a toddler and is now 23.

ClaudiaWankleman · 29/09/2017 13:27

@Witsender what counts as true veg to you? I think fruit, onions and tomatoes is probably good enough to not raise any eyebrows, although possibly not the most healthy.

Tazerface · 29/09/2017 13:29

I can kind of understand people that don't like veg as in, a side of veg with your roast dinner or a salad.

But those that don't eat them in foods where you can't even see them? Why?

ShowMePotatoSalad · 29/09/2017 13:29

I eat a lot of veg but to be honest I don't eat much fruit. I like berries but really not mad keen on much else. I find it all too sweet (berries are nice and sour)

rubybleu · 29/09/2017 13:30

My sister has a limited repertoire of fruit & veg as she has Crohn's disease and limits her fibre intake.

SecretEscapesWannabe · 29/09/2017 13:33

I worked with a man who only ate meat, potatos and gravy. he also put so much salt on his food that it would crust on the top.

God knows how he is still alive. He once told me quite seriously that you get all the nutrients you need in potatos and beer, so he used to eat/ drink alot of both. Sad thing was that his wife was a truly gifted cook.

Talkietalk · 29/09/2017 13:33

my DH when we first met - took years and a baby - now he eats load of veg but still hates fruit which is fine

Madbum · 29/09/2017 13:35

My brother, 36 years old and not touched so much as a pea since 3 years old.

Zaphodsotherhead · 29/09/2017 13:36

My OH only eats carrots but will eat salad occasionally. His food basically has to be stewed until it tastes of nothing (or burned, if stewing is inappropriate) before he will eat it.

Idontevencareanymore · 29/09/2017 13:37

Me.

I have a disgusting awful fussy food issue. Always have. I eat peas and carrot on the occasional roast.
Otherwise no. I hate myself for it as it means meals out are non existent as I can't always find food I'll like

lottieandmia · 29/09/2017 13:38

SecretEscapes - he sounds like a real life Homer Simpson!

hidinginthenightgarden · 29/09/2017 13:40

I know someone who doesn't eat any fruit or veg.
He ate apricot until someone told him it was a fruit and no he doesn't eat it.
DH only ever eats veg if I cook it with our meal. He would never think to include it in a meal. Never eats fruit either.

QuimReaper · 29/09/2017 13:40

I have a dear friend who is a longtime vegetarian, but she grew up in continental Europe where vegetarianism apparently isn't really a "thing". She'd eat things with tomato sauce on, but that was it. She even picked the basil leaves off her margarita pizza! She lived on beige food - I think it was just easier when she was at home.

I was a little bit judgmental Blush She's much more experimental now, I think she just feared the unknown! She still lives primarily on white wine and fags though Grin

RhonaRugMuncherr · 29/09/2017 13:41

A former colleague of mine was quite open about not eating fruit or vegetables (except chips). She was very overweight, did exercise classes every evening and relentlessly complained about not losing weight. No idea what she was eating at night but lunch was always chips or plain pasta with some protein. She wouldn't even drink juice.
