Have you ever met an adult who doesn't eat

Any fruit or vegetables at all? I have a friend who says she never eats any fruit or vegetables at all.

I have never heard of this. I think surely it's very bad for your health. And limiting Hmm

I'm a bit lazy with veg, if it's cooked for me, I eat it
But I like most fruit, and I put veg in stuff and eat salad and steam bags of veg. I couldn't date someone who didn't eat fruit or veg

Joolsy · 29/09/2017 19:04

My BIL doesn't touch any veg whatsoever. And a colleague has a son (age 7) who never eats fruit or veg

ElfrideSwancourt · 29/09/2017 19:04

One of my friends says the only green thing she likes is mint chocolate chip ice cream

Afternooncatnap · 29/09/2017 19:08

I can't understand adults that don't eat whole food groups. Your and adult grow up and eat your vegetables they are good for you. Disliking one or two things is fine, I don't like avacado, but all vegetables, it's madness.

Plus vegetables are so varied in taste, appearance and texture, how can you not like them all?

lottieandmia · 29/09/2017 19:19

This has been most illuminating I have to say. I had no idea this was a problem among adults. Obviously if you have a health problem that's something else.

I wonder if some people have bad gag reflexes or something?

My dad's wife's son. He's 36. Eats no fruit or veg. Hasn't since a little boy.

She seems to think she can lecture me on proper parenting. I think her parenting skills are best questionable given this evidence

My son is autistic. He simply will not eat vegetables or fruit. I eat both daily.

Please don't judge.

EggysMom · 29/09/2017 19:46

DH will eat mashed potato or chips; processed peas; incredibly finely chopped onion (so small that he cannot see it to pick it out); tinned tomatoes in something (eg bolognaise, casserole); granny smith apples; satsumas. That's it for his list. Fortunately he loves eggs.

DS will eat mash or potato shapes, and fruit flavour yoghurts, but not actually fruit or veg. He's autistic, it's taken us 8 years to get him off baby food onto chicken and mash, vegetables will take longer still. Apparently he'll eat sweetcorn at school (he's still in nappies). He used to eat baked beans but went off them a year ago.

I love almost all fruit and veg, just don't ask me to have aubergine or broad beans. Or eggs.

SirRaymondLuxuryYacht · 29/09/2017 20:02

My DPs idiot brother doesn't eat veggies. I made him a butty once with salad on. He took the salad off said he didn't like it. I asked him why,he said he's never even tried veggies. God knows how he knows he doesn't like them if he's never tasted them.
I suspect he was just being an awkward attention seeking twat,he's a bloody weirdo and we've now gone no contact(but that's another story)

theSnuffster · 29/09/2017 20:06

I don't eat much fruit and veg. I know it's terrible and i'm very embarrassed by it. It's usually the texture rather than the taste that is the issue. I'm not trying to be fussy, it's something I really struggle with and that really triggers my anxiety. I am very slowly getting better though!

Thankfully my children are much better than me.

LynetteScavo · 29/09/2017 20:07

An ex-colleague ate very little fruit or veg. She was (still is) morbidly obese, with many of the associated health problems.

Nakedavenger74 · 29/09/2017 20:11

I got scurvy at university due to living off 3 potato waffles, half a bottle of sherry and 20 Marlboro lights a day.
I looked all scaly.

Openup41 · 29/09/2017 20:11

I know a few people who do not eat fruit or vegetables regularly. I have eaten fruit and veg since a child. The odd day I have not (usually a busy Saturday, I feel odd).

lottieandmia · 29/09/2017 20:20

Me too Openup

My dad won't eat any fruit or veg except potatoes, and apples in puddings. Weirdly he does like grapefruit, but isn't allowed that any more as it's bad with one of his medicines. He does have a glass of OJ at breakfast. I think that's what's git him into his 70s....lol

LoniceraJaponica · 29/09/2017 20:27

"Please don't judge."

I think most of us know how to differentiate between just childish fussiness and genuine issues. I know a few people with children with autism and know how difficult it is to get them to eat more than a few food items.

I work with someone who is just fussy. It meant that when we went out for a Christmas meal we went to a cheap and indifferent pizza place so she could find something she liked to eat. The food was OK, not great, just OK. But hey, the fussy person got what they wanted.

Pickleypickles · 29/09/2017 20:29

Me! I eat sauces like spag bol etc. That are made with veg but i dont eat any of the lumpy bits. I dont eat any fruit at all but will eat over cooked carrots.
For the record i have never had scurvy, have a normal BMI and i am generally pretty healthy.

Unihorn · 29/09/2017 20:31

I eat potatoes about twice a week and grapes or strawberries once or twice a week. I sometimes eat carrots and peas. But no, generally I don't even fruit and vegetable. I have all my own teeth and (pre-pregnancy) was a size 6/8. It's never affected me but I appreciate I'm probably not normal.

Redglitter · 29/09/2017 20:32

I eat fruit but other than potatoes I don't eat any other vegetables whatsoever. None.

chickenwire17 · 29/09/2017 20:35

Crikey. Fruit and veg are my very favourite types of food, and I get really anxious if I don't feel I have had enough. Today I have eaten nine different types, which is probably average (ten if you count the strawberries in my muller yoghurt!). I am rarely ill, and I really believe that it's because of my fruit & veg intake.

It must be so, so difficult to live with someone whose diet is so restricted, for whatever reason.

Redglitter · 29/09/2017 20:38

It's not really chickenwire I always eat the same as everyone else just minus the vegetables. My parents never had a problem with it when I was growing up. The only thing that bothered my mum was my plate looked so empty compared to everyone but it didn't make things at all difficult

travelmad · 29/09/2017 20:40

I love vegetables - I eat all vegetables in great quantities. But I'm really not fussed at all by fruit. I can go weeks without eating it. I do eat apples, satsumas, grapes, bananas and strawberries, but I wouldn't choose to eat them unless there was nothing else. If i'm peckish I would much prefer raw carrots/cucumber/peppers or a hunk of cheese/slice of ham to picking up an apple or a banana - I just haven't got much of a sweet tooth.

LoniceraJaponica · 29/09/2017 20:41

"It must be so, so difficult to live with someone whose diet is so restricted, for whatever reason."

I agree. I enjoy cooking and am an adventurous cook. As I said upthread it would be a deal breaker for me in a partner.

I would find a beige meal very boring without any form of vegetables. Do veg haters not get bored with their restricted diets?

housess · 29/09/2017 20:42

Nine portions? Bloody hell! What have you eaten?
