Any fruit or vegetables at all? I have a friend who says she never eats any fruit or vegetables at all.

I have never heard of this. I think surely it's very bad for your health. And limiting Hmm

My son is 16 and he has never knowingly ate vegetables or fruit. However, it was his diet on weaning for about a year.

washingmachinefastwash · 29/09/2017 14:34

A couple of my friends don’t eat fruit or veg yet eat my curry where the base is made from blended veg.

I haven’t told them that’s what they’re eating but I will.

ProfessorCat · 29/09/2017 14:35

I know a friend's partner who eats a ham sandwich with four rounds of bread for lunch every single day, accompanied by a multipack of 4 cans of full fat Coke, 4 bags of crisps and a multipack of Mars bars.

For tea he has either chicken dippers with homemade deep fried chips, or a tinned chicken Tikka Masala with rice and chips. This is accompanied by a 2l bottle of Coke and a multipack of Mars bars.

Those are the only food types he will eat. He will only drink Coke.

I've known them for 15 years now and although he was slim when I first met them, he's now about four stone overweight and has developed diabetes. He is still eating like this and his young daughter is going the same way.

I can't believe that someone can be this childish. He refuses to try new foods and refuses to touch foods he doesn't like. When his daughters were babies he wouldn't feed them. They had McDonald's at 6 months old. He is very difficult to go for meals with.

I don't have much patience for him to be honest, for other issues too, so try and avoid him if I can.

DemonBaby · 29/09/2017 14:39

Meh, my granddad lived off steak and fried potatoes and died at 98 in his sleep with no health problems whatsoever. I never saw him eat a single fruit or vegetable.

Obviously he's the exception to the rule but all the same I can't really get worked up about this

ToEarlyForDecorations · 29/09/2017 14:39

if there was any lettuce or salad in his burger "I no liiiike green stuff!" It was AWFUL. No vegetables of ANY type

I once knew someone who would fill out a little form at the burger place so that they would make one specially with no veg in it just for him. No, 'sub intelligent life form in it' he joked. (Christ it's just a bit of lettuce, tomato and onion.) He wasn't babyish about it but seemed to be on a one man mission to never eat veg. Except chips/crisps, of course.

But no, we had to go through this whole rigmarole of ticking the boxes of what he wanted left out of his burger then waiting for them to make it specially as it wasn't on the menu.

I thought this was supposed to be fast food ? No criticism of them making it, just, blimey !!!

overmydeadbody · 29/09/2017 14:39

I don't understand people who eat no fruit or veg, or even don't eat a lot of it.

It is the main thing I eat, I don't feel like I've eaten properly of veg isn't a main part of a meal.

Here it at other people's houses when they'll serve a meal with no veg, like chicken curry and rice but there is only chicken in the curry, so strange.

DemonBaby · 29/09/2017 14:39

I'm more infuriated by FIL who refuses to eat anything foreign. This includes rice and pasta.

Catra · 29/09/2017 14:42

Yep. I know someone who will only eat chips and rice pudding. Literally nothing else!

Fantasticmissfoxy · 29/09/2017 14:47

A friend at uni, he had horrific skin rashes on his torso as a result of nutrient deficiencies - he was very very short of money and used to live on noodles and frozen stuff. I'd cook for him a couple of times a week but he was super fussy as well.

legolammb · 29/09/2017 14:48

I love veg, but it doesn't love me due to bowel issues. I have to limit my intake more that I'd like and stay away from brassicas or raw veg in particular

AccidentalyRunToWindsor · 29/09/2017 14:50

@DemonBaby my DSC step-father refused to allow them any foreign food in the house. Curry, pasta and rice were out, strangely enough pizza was in...

5rivers7hills · 29/09/2017 14:51

I had a vegetarian friend who didn't like vegetables - ate cheesy chips and fake meat with roast potatoes or veggie saussages with cheesy mash mainly!

MissEliza · 29/09/2017 14:52

I know quite a few people. It's shocking isn't it? My ds (18£ is close to being like that. He'll only eat salad and a tiny amount of vegetables when I place them on his plate. He never eats fruit. He actually takes multivitamins because he knows it's bad for his health. It drives me mad.

Ionarocks · 29/09/2017 14:53

I've worked with young severely autistic adults before. Most were non verbal and also ocd. All of their diets were very specific and some very restrictive. One boy was very overweight and the only things I ever saw him eat were chips, nuggets, sausages and cheese. He only drank fruitshoots. His parents had to lock up food in their garage but he could break in and once ate two blocks of cheddar. He was very intimidating because of his weight and aggression as well so was difficult to say no to him. It was so hard for the whole family.

Lucyandpoppy · 29/09/2017 14:53

Yes my now (for unrelated reasons, mostly) ex.

I also have Crohn's disease and, although I'm able to personally, a lot of people can't tolerate fruit and vegetables as they are high in fibre and have I previously at times been advised to avoid most fruit/ veg by a dietitian (LOFFLEX diet if anyone's interested). Same goes for brown/wholemeal bread and rice and other foods high in fibre

Lucyandpoppy · 29/09/2017 14:54

Edited to add, ex didn't have Crohn's disease. He just refused to eat anything with even small pieces of fruit or vegetables

GandolfBold · 29/09/2017 14:55

My DS eats no fruit or vegetables at all (unless you count the apple content in his squash). His diet is severely limited to (at the moment) hobnobs and baby bels.

It makes me want to pull out my hair at times.

LoniceraJaponica · 29/09/2017 15:03

I'm surprised at the number of people who happily tolerate partners who have very fussy eating habits - I'm talking about childish fussiness here, not intolerances or other food issues. I'm afraid it would be a deal breaker for me.

I love good food, and eating out is treat. I would hate to limit my eating out experiences to say McDonalds or KFC because my husband wouldn't eat anything else.

chipscheeseandgravy · 29/09/2017 15:05

Someone I work with eats the following;

Beans on a baguette (must be Heinz, won't eat with cheese/toast)
Apples
Belvita buscuits
Apple
Galaxy chocolate.
Rice Krispies.

I shit you not that's her entire diet.
My partner works with someone who will only eat chip butties.

27Feb · 29/09/2017 15:07

I know a chap who is allergic to chlorophyll so largely can't. I think he can eat some fruit, but nothing green. He seems ok.

JustDanceAddict · 29/09/2017 15:12

Very bad for you. Assume they don’t have pasta sauce, pizza, smoothies etc. There are certain vegetables I don’t like that much & I prefer salad to cooked veg on the side but I could never imagine not liking all f&v, there is such a wide variety of textures and tastes.

ShellyBoobs · 29/09/2017 15:16

I don't eat much fruit - as in much volume of it, rather than varieties.

It's the sweetness of most fruit I'm not keen on. I'll eat Granny Smith's apples, and fruit salads with plenty of lemon juice to make it taste less sweet, but I rarely eat something like an orange as a snack.

I eat at least 5 portions of veg' every day, though.

bigsighall · 29/09/2017 15:19

Yes a relative of mine. Will basically only eat chips, chocolate and drink beer. He isn't a well man and only in his 20's so a bit sad really.

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/09/2017 15:20

I know someone allergic to chlorophyll...made planning our wedding menu interesting alongside the person with crohns and the vegans!

Ex FIL ate weetabix for breaksfast, white bread and butter with plain crisps for lunch and a plate of chips for dinner.

Doctor said he shouldnt have chips every day so he swapped out chips every other day for......a potato fritter. Eventually I persuaded him to take a daily vit c capsule Hmm

cherrycola2004 · 29/09/2017 15:30

I have gastroparesis partial paralysis of the stomach and can’t eat fibre, or very little. I can tolerate a smoothie on an empty stomach. If I eat fruit especially with skins on or vegetables it just sits in my tummy and rots. Makes me feel sick and eventually it comes back up. Also can’t eat brown bread, brown rice, lentils etc...

That said ie never been able to cope with the texture of fruit or like the taste. I can usually get away with a mashed up very ripe banana and very over cooked carrots Smile
