To wonder if feminism fucked us over

Looking around at lots of relationships -

Women got the right to work and make money.

In many cases this seems to mean that they now have the right to pay bills, rents and mortgages as well as doing the lions share of cooking, household chores and childcare whilst feeling under intense pressure to engage in hardcore grooming and be sex goddesses.

In the 60s many women didnt work and let their lady gardens grow free - it was all men really knew or wanted.

Fast forward 50 years and they're expected to have careers and strip it all off.

Im muddling loads of points here but does anyone see what I mean?

My DP is pretty good but I still pull more weight than him. The other evening I got home late and started to get up to make dinner. He was like "dont bother yourself making dinner, lets just make sandwiches".

Sandwiches? Bother? I mean, I appreciate the gesture mate but its like...why not just make fucking dinner yourself?

Sorry for this rambling, ranting and general mish mash of thoughts.

Feel free to muse!

Clarification over fabricated joke word 'peopleism':

Robin Lakoff studied how women used language as a means of determining whether they viewed themselves as a weaker sex. For example, using tag questions, empty adjectives, etc.

It inspired a debate as to whether 'feminism' should remain the terminology to represent equality for women as, translated, it literally means 'wifeism'.

I thought this was very interesting. I invented a stupid word to jokingly replace it. Please let me reiterate: I am beyond grateful to have the freedom to make my own decisions, the right to vote and benefit from all the things true feminism has granted me and all of us.

So I reserve the right to make up nonsense words. Shakespeare did and he turned out ok!

TatianaLarina · 29/09/2017 13:30

FEMME = WOMAN

TatianaLarina · 29/09/2017 13:30

From the Latin - femina

Disneybump · 29/09/2017 13:31

@TatianaLarina I didn't realise that was it's original Latin translation! I learnt in A Level English it was a translation from French for wife. Thanks for enlightening me!

Disneybump · 29/09/2017 13:33

I had to Google it! I will never make up a word again now I have seen the damage it can do!

To wonder if feminism fucked us over

'Feminism is about choice' said a pimp who died a few days ago. He never once wore a bunny rabbits tail.

TatianaLarina · 29/09/2017 13:38

Surely French A level taught you that femme is French for woman?

Disneybump · 29/09/2017 13:39

I liked Hugh =( and I bet he did in secret sometimes!

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2017 13:42

"all the things true feminism has granted me"

As opposed to what sort of feminism?

SteppingOnToes · 29/09/2017 13:43

How are women raising their sons? If they are not expected to contribute to household chores from childhood then their future partner stands no chance! Too many mothers baby their sons and then they expect the same from a relationship

Disneybump · 29/09/2017 13:50

@TatianaLarina no I studied English not French =)

@BertrandRussell As opposed to untrue feminism. Stop going on at me!

Ironic how a thread about feminism has so many women arguing with each other! As you respect feminism respect my right to have an opinion without constantly challenging me.

AssassinatedBeauty · 29/09/2017 13:52

How are men raising their sons? If they are not expected to contribute to household chores from childhood then their future partner stands no chance! Too many fathers baby their sons and then they expect the same from a relationship

AssassinatedBeauty · 29/09/2017 13:53

@Disneybump, she asked a question, she's not arguing with you.

Disneybump · 29/09/2017 13:54

@AssassinatedBeauty I meant the whole thread but she definitely is getting on at me. Again nice comeback with the men raising their sons thing... genius.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2017 13:56

"@BertrandRussell As opposed to untrue feminism. Stop going on at me!

Sorry-. I just don't know what you think. Surely as it's a thread about feminism you should expect to be challenged if you talk about true/untrue feminism? Hmm

MyLittleDragon · 29/09/2017 13:56

Assassinated / what do you have to do to get the basic citizens income though? Is it job related?

MyLittleDragon · 29/09/2017 13:57

(In theory) ^^

TatianaLarina · 29/09/2017 13:57

What relevance is English A level to French words?

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2017 13:58

In theory you don't have to do anything to get the basic citizen's income. Just be an adult citizen.

Getout21 · 29/09/2017 13:59

I do think there is something in the notion that mothers baby their sons. Wasn't their research that daughters are treated harsher by mothers.

Although you can still baby a son & teach them how to cook, clean etc.

pallisers · 29/09/2017 14:01

If Feminism means equality then surely we should call it peopleism

How would you rename the NAACP as a matter of interest?

Getout21 · 29/09/2017 14:03

Also I find it strange when women say they are not feminists. Being a feminist does not mean you hate men or have to wear wooden shoes.

Disneybump · 29/09/2017 14:03

Untrue feminism was a silly response to a silly question! I just put the word true in there earlier... no need to read into it I just happened to type it.

I admire that you feel so strongly about being 100% PC with feminism. I'm a little more lighthearted about life in general so I thought I'd come tell the OP I agree, sometimes I do feel an overwhelming responsibility to 'do it all' but, ultimately, I like my gender stereotypes household! I like my life and I like my new word peopleism.

Now I must go start dinner and empty the washing machine

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2017 14:04

Feminism doesn't mean equality though. It means specifically equality for women

Disneybump · 29/09/2017 14:05

@TatianaLarina you said that I should have learnt when I studied French A Level but I never studied French, it was English where we learnt the translation from French meant 'wife'.
