To be irked at the waste of water?

Teen dsd (this is not a step child issue!) she likes a bath often however each time she fills the bath up until it’s almost overflowing gets in for less than 15 minutes then pulls the plug and uses the shower to wash her hair.

This really pisses me off! I can tell her til I’m blue in the face she doesn’t listen.

I absolutely get that but I find wasting huge amounts of water like that on a regular basis something that needs to be addressed.

YABU - washing your hair in the bath makes it go funny, so I can see why she is using the shower.

How do you have such intimate knowledge of what she does in the bath and what is she bloody well supposed to wash her hair with if not the shower?????

Meh. I do the same. Hot, deep bubble bath. Get in. Submerge self. Run shower to wet hair. Wash hair / rinse. Whack on conditioner. Soap body, release plug, rinse hair. Get out. Done and dusted in 20 or so minutes.

Teenagers are funny people.
Water wastage will be the least of your problems, unless you're on a water meter.

Because the bathroom is directly above us so we can hear everything and quite often she will call downstairs and ask me to go up and hand her something/answer a question so I’m able to see the water spilling over the sides.

She does this most nights, it’s not a rare occurrence.

YABU. It's irrelevant how long she gets in the bath for as the same amount of water is used regardless of duration. Many people wash/rinse their hair under clean water from the shower. I would just be glad she's got good hygiene practices.

Are you on a meter? If not then yabu, if you are and it's costing a bomb then she's needs to stop.

Don't put the hot water on so much and tell her there's just enough hot water for everyone to have a 5 minute shower daily. Seriously, just don't provide all that hot water.

Or you could rig up a water container to collect the bath water and reuse it on the garden maybe?

You're being tight as fuck it is ridiculous. A teenage girl who isn't allowed to decide how she bathes herself? Hot bath then shower for hair is very commonplace.

Read my op again obvious, my issue is not with her bathing (obviously) but with the amount of water she wastes.

If I had written dd not dsd would that have made a difference I wonder? I’m no wicked stepmother I just would rather not pay astronomical water bills!

Have you told her how expensive it is fore her to have these baths almost every night? A lot of teenagers don't even think about the cost of water/gas/electricity when it comes to things like taking a bath vs a shower unless it is explained.

Personally I couldn't be doing with the faff of having a bath every night, but that might just be because I barely get time for a 5 minute shower never mind the time to run a bath and actually have time to enjoy it!

Maybe you need to give her a choice - she can bath every night if it is reasonable (ie not overflowing and wasting water) or she can have her extravagant bath once or twice a week but shower, to balance out the water use, on the other days.

I feel for you. My son take 2 LONG showers a day (because he feels oily with so much aches). Plus all the extra towels and clothes to wash. We do have water bill and when he was gone for the summer, our bill for the three of us combined was $50. He came back and now it is $100+

The bill is pure month, btw. I am clueless on what to do because I do understand where he is coming from yet it is expensive

Have you shown her the water bill? It would annoy me too and we're not on a meter!
Either show her the water bill and explain that she's really not helping you save money or buy her a snorkel and flippers for her next bath..

I agree with you OP and think it's wasteful. People in this country often don't appreciate the access to water that we have. We waste so much and actually in many parts of the country water needs to be piped from the other side of the country due to a lack in water resources. I also can't understand why someone would fill a bath with 80litres of water and the cost of heating it all (that's not far off a full tank) only to then wash in the shower.

No idea how you can sort this though?!

How much do your poor dss baths actually cost though.
We aren't on a water meter but i would be really fucked off to be told baths are too expensive.
How would it compare to her doing dance or theatre or other expenxive hobbies?
