Fucking Argos

Ordered 2 sofas to be delivered today, paid extra for a 2-6 slot. They turned up at 12.37!! Saw them pulling out of our road as I came back from walking the dog. Then left a voicemail telling me my delivery wouldn't happen today. Despite me paying for a certain slot they gave me a slot of 1-3. They were still bloody outside this! The delivery driver is apparently 'unwilling' to return so no sofas.

Old sofas are gone and customer services 'get where I'm coming from' but can't tell the driver to come back when he should have been here either for their slot or the slot I paid for and they'll discuss any compensation for the hassle when I've received the sofas. How I stayed calm I don't know. Can't have a midweek slot as we both work so no sofas for 2 fucking weeks!!!

Aibu to think Argos are utterly shoddy both with their delivery services and customer services?

I don't suppose driver's routes are tracked?

Does stuff have to be signed for?

So his previous delivery might give an indication of how far away he was at a certain time?

We had the same thing with Argos delivering a bed a few years back. We were moving into an unfurnished property in the morning, and had arranged for delivery after 2pm.

11am we were three miles away, returning the hire van we'd used to move the rest of our stuff, when we got a call saying that they were outside the house. I said, "But it's an afternoon delivery" and he said, "Nah, it's a morning one".

My husband literally ran the 3 miles in the baking sun, in jeans, very pissed off at me (as it seemed that I'd fucked up the delivery slot). When he got there, they admitted that they wanted to deliver early because the football was on in the afternoon, and left the bed in the living room. The delivery slip had both the original time slot, and the 'guarantee' that they'd deliver furniture to the correct room. Bunch of cunts.

Sadly, I phoned to complain, they apologised, and I left it at that. Nowadays I probably would be more persistent!

Jammydodger81 · 24/09/2017 17:05

They fully admit he was early diddl, that's what's so so frustrating.

I agree with everyone saying that I'd sit on floor as long as it took rather than giving that shower of wankers a penny of my money.
Argos if you're reading this it's definitely put me off using you in future. Can't abide poor customer service.

Raindancer411 · 24/09/2017 17:12

Can you ask Argos to at least foot the bill for some garden or camping chairs for you all to use in the mean time? It's the least they can do if you have to wait and it was their fault for the delivery issue.

Bunnyfuller · 24/09/2017 17:27

Might pop onto Twitter and post abt deciding not to buy from them after hearing horrific experience of a 'friend'

Bunnyfuller · 24/09/2017 17:29

Not quite the same but a firm coming to quote me for a house move kept trying to change time/date on the day they were due to come to do survey. After the third text 'shall we try for next week' lie they were doing me a favour I told them they needn't come at all....

timeisnotaline · 24/09/2017 17:37

If you don't want to cancel the order I'd be demanding compensation, mention a bad back, and do it on twitter email and fb. I'd express concern about their drivers lying, their hiring practices, their attitude to the customer and if their drivers have the barefaced cheek to lie like that then how can I feel safe with them in home? What is Argos insurance to cover my safety from their drivers ? And ... repeat. Repeat.

MrsJamesAspey · 24/09/2017 18:01

Why would anyone be aggressive to a delivery driver and send them away, AND then spend the afternoon on the phone trying to get him to come back???

How could this even be a thing???

Even if the delivery driver was 10 hours early, if you were at home you would take the delivery.....wouldn't you? You wouldnt send him away and tell him come back at the correct time?

I would cut off my nose to spite my face on this. Cancel the order, find a sofa online from very get it delivered and pay it off when you get your refund.....which I would be demanding straight away, none if this 7-10 days bollox

MrsJamesAspey · 24/09/2017 18:05

Just checked.... very delivery within 10 days 👍🏻

MissEliza · 24/09/2017 18:14

I'd cancel the order. They don't deserve your money. As said before, they don't sell anything so special you can't get it in many other places. When you cancel, I'd find the email of the CEO and explain how they lost your business, attaching as much evidence as possible.

hertsandessex · 24/09/2017 18:17

Unfortunately just suck it up and get your original delivery money back and maybe a small token voucher if you're lucky. Not worth getting stressed over. There are regular problems with all delivery services in the UK. Came back to the UK with my wife 15 years ago and it has been a constant problem - at first annoying but now it is a bit of a joke between us. Customer service in the UK is crap.

MissEliza · 24/09/2017 18:18

Also I'm another one who won't order from Argos due to previous problems with delivery and very unsympathetic and rude customer service. When our delivery did arrive the nice young driver (I'm getting old!) said they were under intense pressure and worked really long hours. A few months later, I saw him driving a van for another firm!

BlueberryMarshmallow · 24/09/2017 18:21

Argos delivery drives me crazy, I no longer use them because their service is that bad! They did the same with me delivering in a morning when they said afternoon and to make matters worse only delivered half the bed!

I had to wait another week (even after kicking up a fuss on social media) and so our guests ended up in a hotel. I got a standard “we are sorry” response. Angry

RainbowsAndCrystals · 24/09/2017 18:21

I had Currys deliver a freezer and literally just dumped it in the kitchen. My elderly father had kindly said he would stay in and wait for it.

It was still in its packaging. I complained and got £100 compensation I think.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 24/09/2017 18:24

Can you put here the type of sofa and MN can see if we can get an equivalent sofa delivered sooner?

Niamhisnotarealname · 24/09/2017 18:44

They are completely awful. I ordered new sofas for my first house and booked a 10-2 slot for delivery. I was going to be in all day doing housework and unpacking as we had just moved in........... they had me up at 7AM! 7 bloody am in my bloody pyjamas bleary eyed and confused. at least I actually got my sofas though.

stepmad · 24/09/2017 19:46

Will never use again aid extra for a Saturday time slot turned up two hours early with a fridge freezer how I laughed as I had ordered a bed. This was after they had changed my prebooked slot three times in four weeks.

Grenoble124 · 24/09/2017 19:52

Ordered a dryer but delivery was going to take weeks so cancelled and bought elsewhere. Ridiculous service.

Foxysoxy01 · 24/09/2017 19:56

WOW what a shit response from Argos!

TBH it has put me off using them if 1, I don't actually get the delivery time I pay EXTRA for and 2, they then slander my character!

I would like them to this thread OP or maybe the Sun will actually do something useful with their thread stealing and do a write up on Argos stealing customers money and then slandering them.

I would do as another poster suggested and use Very or Next OP, they have been really good when we have used them.

TroysMammy · 24/09/2017 19:56

I recommend Dunelm Mill for delivery. Telephoned to say they would be with me at x time, quick, professional and took away the packaging.

ChasedByBees · 24/09/2017 20:05

That sounds awful OP. How frustrating.

Lovemusic33 · 24/09/2017 20:13

I bought my sofa from www.sofasworld.co.uk here, they delivered within a few days and called me half an hour before they got here (I had a deliver slot too but they still called). Really pleased with the service and the quality. Curys/PC world were also really good when I ordered my tumble dryer and fridge freezer.

I have had problems with Argos before, delivery is a lot and they never turn up at the right time, I won't use them again for home delivery.

dingit · 24/09/2017 20:27

Yep. Argos are rubbish. Waited for delivery of ds TV . They delivered it to a completely different street. Lady there just accepted it and had a massive row with her dh as she thought he'd ordered yet another gadget Grin the kind gentleman then delivered it to us in his car.

MissEliza · 24/09/2017 20:27

This is definitely one MN thread I'd like to see end up in the papers to embarrass Argos.
