Fucking Argos

Ordered 2 sofas to be delivered today, paid extra for a 2-6 slot. They turned up at 12.37!! Saw them pulling out of our road as I came back from walking the dog. Then left a voicemail telling me my delivery wouldn't happen today. Despite me paying for a certain slot they gave me a slot of 1-3. They were still bloody outside this! The delivery driver is apparently 'unwilling' to return so no sofas.

Old sofas are gone and customer services 'get where I'm coming from' but can't tell the driver to come back when he should have been here either for their slot or the slot I paid for and they'll discuss any compensation for the hassle when I've received the sofas. How I stayed calm I don't know. Can't have a midweek slot as we both work so no sofas for 2 fucking weeks!!!

Aibu to think Argos are utterly shoddy both with their delivery services and customer services?

No Backie, no contact at all. He's refusing to come back and I guess it does happen that people are agressive so I can't blame them for having that policy.

OP posts:
BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 15:12

He's using that policy to get an early finish. Bastard. He knows the company will back him against an "aggressive" customer so he has made one up. Make sure in all your dealings with them you are the model of calm and politeness. Don't give them anything they can use to prove he was telling the truth.

Tartyflette · 24/09/2017 15:12

So that's an outright lie by the delivery driver since you had no contact with him at all -- I think that requires a very strong response from you to both the CEO and on social media.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 24/09/2017 15:13

I suspect what he actually means is that he doesn't want to come back now because he's anticipating that you're somewhat pissed off that he jumped the slot by so much, meaning that you missed his delivery. He'd be right on that, of course - you ARE somewhat pissed off. Whether that would translate to aggression on your part is pure speculation on his - which is why he's claiming that you've already been aggressive, to avoid having to see you at all.

Bloke's a dick, quite frankly, and so are Argos for facilitating his dickishness.

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 15:14

Also, ask them to provide the proof of you being aggressive to him. He has made a disgusting accusation against your character. Tell them you will be following this up and have heard of other people having the same false accusations made against them by Argos drivers and need the proof for your cas because it sounds but like an investigation into their practise is due. Scare the shite out of them.

nancy75 · 24/09/2017 15:16

Argos use the worst delivery drivers, a few years ago it took 6 attempts for them to deliver something. Their excuse was they got lost & couldn't find my road - we lived in the High Street of the town!
I agree with others, tell them you want a refund & give your money to someone else

diddl · 24/09/2017 15:17

I presume that you've told them that you paid for a 2-6 slot as that is when you would be in?

That you weren't in when the driver called-indeed no one was-so not only did he turn up at the wrong time, he must have gone to the wrong house!

Sisinisawa · 24/09/2017 15:18

Tell them you haven't even spoken to him and that you are concerned that he is defaming your character in this way.

They can't hide behind his lie. Be clear with them that he is lying.

troodiedoo · 24/09/2017 15:19

They are terrible. I never use them now. John Lewis all the way. Definitely cancel it. You should be able to get an interim sofa from gum tree or marketplace while you find a better one.

Jammydodger81 · 24/09/2017 15:20

Yes I've told them all this over and over, that all I want is my sofas in the slot that I paid for. They are still refusing. I did icily thank the Twitter 'helper' for turning that slander into libel Backie but no help.

OP posts:
JediStoleMyBike · 24/09/2017 15:20

How awful. Hope you get sorted!

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 24/09/2017 15:20

Ah ok thanks, not a saying I've heard of (Dog wagging thing)

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 15:21

CEO it is then?

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 15:21

If you really want to go ahead with the order that is. I wouldn't.

Bombardier25966 · 24/09/2017 15:22

The driver isn't going to deliver to you. Don't waste the rest of your day chasing something that ain't going to happen.

The customer service staff are in a no win situation, you're saying you didn't speak to the driver (and he did arrive early), he's saying you were aggressive. We know he's lying, but they can't risk sending an employee into what he claims to be a potentially dangerous situation. Some customers are nasty, imagine if they sent him back and he got assaulted. Customer service don't know who to believe, but they do know they've a duty of care towards their staff.

Cancel your order and go elsewhere. What kind of thing are you looking for, perhaps we can find you something you can get more quickly?

Yogagirl123 · 24/09/2017 15:23

How frustrating, what's the point of booking a time, if Argos fail to deliver in that window. I have to say in my experience this seems a regular occurrence with Argos, certainly happened to me before.

I would think carefully about cancelling as others have suggested.
We have recently had a right sofa saga with another retailer and it can be 8-10 weeks for delivery from ordering, so you could find yourself at square one. And with Xmas round the corner etc, it can be cutting it fine. I know because I am waiting for replacement sofas!

I would fully expect Argos to deliver to me, either in a evening or make a slot for next weekend. Have you got anyone who could take the delivery in for you? You sound upset and quite understandably so, but the best approach is to be calm and assertive, any hint of aggression gives them a cop out.

Good luck OP.

clairethewitch70 · 24/09/2017 15:25

I bet he went to the wrong address or he asked a neighbour to take them in for you and they told him where to go - I mean who would take in sofas for someone else?

Redglitter · 24/09/2017 15:25

They're total chancers when it comes to delivery. I ordered bedroom furniture for my new house and selected an afternoon delivery to suit my mum who would be waiting for it. I got a phone call at 0810 to say they were outside with my delivery. I said the house was empty and no one was in. He wasn't pleased at all. I pointed out he was about 6 hours early and got told 'we were in the area now I suppose I'm going to have to come back' Ehm yeah damn right you are.

Hope you get it resolved. Their attitude has been shocking so far

Cakescakescakes · 24/09/2017 15:26

Next have a lot of their standard sofas on 4 day delivery? Unless you want one of the pricier ones etc.

gallicgirl · 24/09/2017 15:27

So the driver says you were aggressive but Argos are willing to send another driver in two weeks?

So they are either admitting he's lying and know it's safe to send another driver, or they're awful employers willing to put an employee at risk. Doesn't make them look good in either respect.

BackieJerkhart · 24/09/2017 15:27

Tip for future ordering. When you have picked your time slot put a note on the order saying that no-one will be home to accept delivery outside of those times and that any attempt to deliver outside of those hours will result in cancelling the order. Put it in capitals and take a screen shot of the completed order with the delivery note.

FlyingJellyfishInTheAttic · 24/09/2017 15:28

Tell them the contract you entered into them was to pay X for sofa and 2-6 delivery.

They have voided the contract by not delivering when you paid so you expect money back within 48 hours or you will take legal action.

Had issues with Argos when fridge freezer broke less than 2 years in. Tried to say no refund as more than a year. When I linked the SOG sct and told them I would seek legal advice they then suddenly complied, report proved faulty item snd got replacement.

BakedBeans47 · 24/09/2017 15:28

Wankers

I’d put something on their Facebook page

Oldraver · 24/09/2017 15:28

Have you replied to that tweet that you have had no contact from the driver..? and that you only saw him disappearing out of your street ?

Neverknowing · 24/09/2017 15:32

Absolutely cancel the sofas. I guess I'm stubborn so would go without sofas for however long to avoid this behaviour. How horrible !
