Fucking Argos

Ordered 2 sofas to be delivered today, paid extra for a 2-6 slot. They turned up at 12.37!! Saw them pulling out of our road as I came back from walking the dog. Then left a voicemail telling me my delivery wouldn't happen today. Despite me paying for a certain slot they gave me a slot of 1-3. They were still bloody outside this! The delivery driver is apparently 'unwilling' to return so no sofas.

Old sofas are gone and customer services 'get where I'm coming from' but can't tell the driver to come back when he should have been here either for their slot or the slot I paid for and they'll discuss any compensation for the hassle when I've received the sofas. How I stayed calm I don't know. Can't have a midweek slot as we both work so no sofas for 2 fucking weeks!!!

Aibu to think Argos are utterly shoddy both with their delivery services and customer services?

Thanks all. Bombardier you're right, was mostly venting on here and hadn't tried twitter yet but now that's exhausted I'm going to leave it. Can't really cancel the order as they'll take 7-10 days to refund my money and as I can't afford to buy another set outright and then I'll have to wait again. Will be sitting on dining room chairs for the next 2 weeks.

On the bright side the kids are most amused at our empty front room and are acting like that scene in Stepbrothers were they have lots of room for activities Grin

They have a depot in I think Milton Keynes. When this happened to us - the driver never turned up then decides he didn't want to turn up then ended up over their hours - I phoned the depot not the customer service team. Got told they were on their 30 min break 5mins up the road. We offered to collect from the lorry. Lorry strangely wasn't there...

Anyway. Ring the depot.

OutToGetYou · 24/09/2017 15:40

It doesn't make any sense at all that you would 'refuse the delivery' (aggressively or otherwise) and then be on the phone complaining they didn't deliver.

The logic is weak in this one.

I've always found Argos fine, they do usually deliver earlier than agreed but I've always had a phone call to say so (which usually means I have to jump out of bed and get dressed quickly).

Parrcful · 24/09/2017 15:41

I'd cancel the bloody order! Pissed off for you op Angry

Hunkle · 24/09/2017 15:41

Tell the you want a refund by tomorrow.

Aderyn17 · 24/09/2017 15:42

Argos don't sell anything so good that ypu cannot get elsewhere . I would cancel the order and contact the CEO. They really don't deserve your money.
How exactly have they explained your aggression when you weren't even there?

Ttbb · 24/09/2017 15:42

The Argos delivery guys are the worst.

Andrewofgg · 24/09/2017 15:49

The crapitude of Argos is beyond belief. Has anyone ever used or tried to use their so-called Fast Track when you pay up front and are promised an immediate handover? Don't bother. There is a Fast Track desk but it is not staffed. You have to raise fifty sorts of hell before somebody will find your purchases for you. They rely on people not bothering and getting in the main (slow-moving) queue.

Rafflesway · 24/09/2017 15:50

🙀🙀🙀. Bloody atrocious behaviour!!!

07 October nearest - convenient to you - delivery date???? No way would I tolerate that. Definitely Twitter and FB the way to go.

Flowers and good luck OP.

BridgeOverBubbledWater · 24/09/2017 15:51

Well I think from hearing the stories on this thread I won't be buying furniture from Argos any time soon!

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 24/09/2017 15:55

I also suspect that he tried to deliver next door and they told him in robust terms that of course they wouldn't be taking in two effing sofas, what the effing jeff did he think he was paying at? Hence "aggressive".

PurpleMinionMummy · 24/09/2017 15:55

What jellyfish said.

ElsieMc · 24/09/2017 15:58

Sorry to hear this op. I bought a Next sofa off ebay over one weekend and it was delivered on the Wednesday. As it was not expensive, I didn't expect much and it was a three plus hour journey from the shop to our home. from Leeds to Cumbria. I received a phone call at 8.30 am to say he was nearby and he found us with no trouble. Lovely guy, so helpful. Small business on ebay. It was new and I paid £499.

Our local furniture shop is v expensive but when I ordered in the past, because of a difficult situation I found myself in (similar to yours - no furniture) they lent me a suite. Certainly not what I would pick, but beggars cant be choosers.

Argo do not deserve your custom. Two examples there of bottom of the market and top of the market retailers both being helpful and not leaving a customer stuck.

ShoesHaveSouls · 24/09/2017 16:02

That's awful OP - so the driver says you aggressively refused delivery - when you weren't even there, because he was early?! What a liar.

These deliveries can be so stressful. We were waiting for a big delivery one time, had a set date - I'm at home so no hassle really. At 5pm I find a 'sorry we missed you' note just tucked in the letterbox. I swear he had not rang the doorbell, or even knocked. The dog goes crazy if anyone so much as breathes on our front door, so he must have been some sort of stealth ninja delivery driver. He did at least deliver the next day though, so no real harm done.

Hope you get it sorted. 29th is next fri, so not the end of the world I suppose.

WindyWednesday · 24/09/2017 16:06

Sadly John Lewis are no better. Ordered garden furniture which was fairly expensive. Waited in from 7-2 as they asked, no sign of delivery. Rang customer services who didn't want to know. I asked if they could find out how much longer it would be. They told me they can't contact the drivers on route. Asked if they knew if the driver had made any deliveries that day, and again they said they didn't know.

I said that they had a duty of care to their staff and really were they not concerned that they didn't know where the driver was?

They really couldn't be bothered to deal with the issue. Social media shaming was the only way to get a response from them.

SandyDenny · 24/09/2017 16:07

I will also think very carefully about ordering anything from Argos having read this.

Keep on at them, bad publicity is often a great motivator (unless you're Michael O'Leary of course)

SouthWestmom · 24/09/2017 16:09

Op - who refused delivery?

I think you need to start a trail on email /message saying you are confused that the driver is saying this as there was no contact with you or anyone in your household, you saw them leaving, and you have not contacted them at all.

Viviennemary · 24/09/2017 16:20

Report them to Trading Standards. They have no right to charge you for a slot and then not make the delivery between those times. Seems from the responses this isn't a new problem. That's very poor indeed.

Jammydodger81 · 24/09/2017 16:20

Next door neighbours are both lovely, they're also elderly and v. v. unlikely to be aggressive, if he even spoke to them at all! I have told them this till I'm blue in the face but no luck.

As I said earlier I do slightly understand why Argos won't send the same guy back, if I was dangerous they would be risking their staff.

Will definitely be contacting them for the compensation after the delivery though, I think they make you wait so most people can't be bothered. I will be straight on the phone once sofas are in the door

I would rather sit on sun loungers for 2 months than give this shower of shite any money.

HidingUnderARock · 24/09/2017 16:31

On the good ship Venus!

Sorry, I've had wine :p

Purplemeddler · 24/09/2017 16:47

They told me they can't contact the drivers on route

I simply don't believe this, they must have mobiles with them.

I often get a call or text from a delivery driver to say they will be with me in an hour/10 minutes whatever. If they can call/text me, they can be called/texted by the depot.

Purplemeddler · 24/09/2017 16:47

*Report them to Trading Standards. They have no right to charge you for a slot and then not make the delivery between those times"

And yes, breach of Consumer Rights Act 2015. Look at the Which? website, plenty of good advice on there.

SlothMama · 24/09/2017 16:49

I would hit them where it hurts their pockets, I'd cancel the order and sit on the floor if I had to. The driver clearly knows that by saying you were aggressive he wouldn't be forced to go back. Cheeky fucker.

AnaemicExhaustion · 24/09/2017 16:55

Ex SIL loved Argos delivery drivers. Had one she really fancied deliver something once, flirted a bit then decided the next day to text the number he had called her off just before delivering and arranged to meet up....turned out it was just a work phone and the guy she met was a different driver-she did what she wanted to anyway 😳 Then a few weeks later had another delivery from the original Argos driver she fancied and had a whole lot more fun......
