Weird Coincidences.....

I had one yesterday, whilst working into work one of the guys on Reception said to me "I had a dream about you last night, are you going to be moving to Chicago soon?"

Which is pretty random, but not as random as the fact I spent the previous evening in bed reading quite extensively about Meigs Field, which is an airport on lake Michigan, Chicago, in fact, I fell asleep whilst reading the book.

To me that's quite a mental coincidence. Anyone else?

I went to see a show at a local theatre. As I sat down, the lady in the next seat turned to me and said , 'I see a flat mountain'. I was quite spooked by this because I had just won a holiday to go to Cape Town. It turned out she was a Spiritualist.

Both me and DH meet someone we know on a night out in a US town (from UK).

I had bought a house and was at the hairdresser. During the chat he asked me which road, then which number house.

It turned out that he had rented a room in the house until the owner had gone into hospital.

without going into too much detail as it's upsetting, three people I knew from completely separate parts of my life who had never met each other all lost family members/friends in 7/7. Turns out all three of them were in the same carriage.

Statistical co-incidence there is a bloody website on the net which explains this its more common than you might think it is,

My mum died a few years ago. She was Welsh, and she once told me that she had been confused by a line in a Welsh song when she was little. The line translates as "the captain is on the deck" but she thought it said "the captain is on the table".

One evening (a couple of years after she'd died) dh and I were playing a game called fluxx, where you need to obtain a combination of cards in your hand and cards "on the table" to win. I picked up a card that said - I paraphrase - win if you hold X card and Y card and the captain is on the table"

Years ago I had a very vivid dream of a dear friend from LA. In the dream, he was having a heart attack. I hadn't called him in over a year so resolved to ring him later that day when DS was in nursery. Just as I took out my phone, he rang! As I told him of my dream, he said 'funny you should have dreamt that. I spent lastnight in hospital thinking I was having a heart attack, the doctors thought I was at first too. Turns out it was anxiety about my new job and impending fatherhood."

I get a fair few coincidences, I don't think I'll ever forget the time when I had dreams for 3 nights running about winning the lottery. 3rd night I dreamt numbers. I remembered them long enough to write down in a text, it went missing off my phone, so I went and brought a lotto ticket as I still vaguely remembered these numbers.
It was strange because I never, ever play the lottery.
My partner was supposed to look after the ticket, it got lost.
A few months later there was a story in the news about a winning ticket sold in the town which had gone unclaimed. I'm 100% sure it would have been the one I bought.

Odd set of circumstances that seemed to align, all coincidences. I have to tell myself that it wasn't supposed to be lol.

I have a friend whose DHs birthday is the same as my sons and her sons birthday is same as mine! Her wedding anniversary is the same day as my parents! I also have a friend whose two grandchildren were born on his late wife's birthday!

I have been trying to fill a very difficult to fill position for months. Finally found the right person. Went to prepare the offer letter on 9/21/17, start date 10/6/17. Person he is replacing offer letter dated 9/21/15 start date 10/5/15.

Pretty darned interesting coincidence.

MiddleClassProblem · 23/09/2017 00:09

DH's parents and my parents both have the same sibling patterns (so mum and mil the same and df and Fil the same) and the same placement with in those patterns. When I say patterns I mean how many and gender. Our dads' in particular are unusual.

Husband and I visiting Canada and bumped into someone I knew on the street.

woodenplank · 23/09/2017 00:19

Ok, so a name change and the names changed for this one as it is quite specific.

We had some work done on the house which involved removing a couple of stair planks. On one of the planks in thick builders pencil and lovely handwriting was the name and age of the children living at the farm at the time - William Stamford aged 2 and his brother aged 6 in February 1911 (which sounded about right as we thought the extension had been built around then).

The rest of the builders waste had been chucked out, but they left this plank in the kitchen. We didn't really know what to do with it, it seemed a shame to chuck it out but what would we do with it? So we left it overnight.

The next day we had a phonecall from someone wanting to go metal detecting on our land - not that unusual, probably happens monthly since google maps happened!! I explained to the man on the phone that it wasn't allowed (defra rules, not us) and during the chat he told me that his grandfather used to live at the farm. Can you guess where this is going? His grandfathers name was William Stamford and he was 2 in 1911. He couldn't believe it when I told him about the plank, and he came and collected it a few days later.

It still seems an unbelievable co-incidence that he called that day.

I've had loads. My most recent one was meeting a couple on holiday in Cuba, who started telling us about where they lived. It turns out it's mils town, and started talking about the local pub. The Dh played poker there, he knows step fil Shock

When my df passed away in July, we went home to congregate and take stick after we visited him in hospital. Db was driving and Annie Lennox was on the radio singing Angel. Then when db took his mobile phone out of his jean pocket a photo popped up on his locked phone, of Dh ❤️ It was comforting to us.

Longdistance · 23/09/2017 00:23

Photo of df, not Dh. That would be scary, ha!

Years ago and my first lecture at university. I was walking down the road to the university main campus and struck up a conversation with another student. She was doing law as was I. Turns out her family sold the house she spent her first few years in to my family and which was still my family home.

PebblesFlintstone · 23/09/2017 00:49

On holiday in Australia, DH was putting his hand luggage in the overhead locker on the flight back home from Sydney when he spotted his work colleague sitting in the seat directly behind him.

I had a dream that my mum was pregnant 9 years ago. She woke me up and the first thing I said was "are you pregnant?" and she got a test that day.. she was. She had no feelings before hand, until I said it.

Then my SIL had IVF and inseminated Christmas Eve. On NYE I text her saying that I had a dream she was pregnant. She took a test a couple of days later and she was.

A few years ago my DP proposed to me and we booked the wedding quite quickly. I put off and put off finding a wedding dress as I am a big lady and feel very self conscious. When I could put off no more I went to a bridal shop with my bridesmaids. The owner didn't come across as very nice at all, kept suggesting gowns that suit the "bigger figure", which was fine, but I selected a few that I did want to try on.

She just kept saying "honestly, this one would be much more appropriate" and basically wouldn't even let me try on the ones i liked! I left in tears and felt so embarrassed.

Told DP what happened and was convinced I was too fat and ugly to get married. Felt totally worthless and disgusting (mh problems). That nighg one of his friends shared a page on FB. It was her new bridal shop that would be opening and invited anyone who was interested to have a look.

I travelled down, completely terrified of the same thing repeating.

I found my dream dress and we get married in a few weeks Smile

When I was a child we lived in Africa. One day we went to a local club that was run by my dads firm where the families used to socialise together. There was a new family there with twin boys. My dad was this chaps team leader so he introduced my mum to the mans wife. My mum asked where in the uk they came from, lady said xxxxxx which was the same town as us. Mum asked which area, lady said yyyyyyy. Mum said which road , lady said zzzzzzz. Mum asked which number, lady said 44. We lived at number 4. Both families had rented the houses out while we were in Africa.

Husband in his youth worked in the Alps during ski season. His parents had just moved into a horribly expensive house in a small village in Kent. The road was nicknamed millionaires row. DH got talking to a girl who was a chalet maid in the chalet he had been assigned to. Turns out her parents had just moved house. This girl had been brought up in the house my in laws had just bought, her parents had sold it to them. And my husband doesn't believe in ' spooky coincidences'!!! He just thinks it's chance!!

On holiday in Turkey our family were in a small tour group with just us and two couples who were travelling together. When we replied to the question as to where we are from they were incredulous, as they had grown up in the same small village we live in now.

DH and I have a few funny things in common. Same blood type. Exactly the same grades at GCSE/O-Level/A-Levels and degree class. We both went to universities near to one another, though we came from opposite ends of the country. He was born at midday, I was born at midnight.

elfinpre · 23/09/2017 01:32

Oh, we were exactly the same weight at birth as well, forgot that one.

oldlaundbooth · 23/09/2017 01:48

Had a job interview today.

The person whose job I interviewed for has the same name as me! Quite a rare one.
Also an intern in their department had the same name also.

Bizarre.

We went in a family holiday when I was a teenager to Greece and stayed in a small village on an island. We were having a meal at a small local restaurant and got talking to the waiter. It turned out he was studying in the city we lived in and lived about 2 miles from us. When we got home and uni started again I would see him every morning on the bus. I always thought we'd have some beautiful affair but he didn't seem to share the same idea sadly.
